Marcella's Italian Kitchen - Polaris Ratings and Reviews
The food was very good. Waitstaff only brought 4 small pieces of bread for a party of 3. Could have asked for more, but still... And the olive oil served with it could use some spices or balsamic vinegar. We were not offered freshly grated parmesan cheese like the table next to us. Again, could have asked for it, but we were almost done by then. That said, our waitstaff was very pleasant. I would definitely go back. I already know what I am going to order next time!
We had a late lunch. We started with the onions covered with Parmesan cheese and arancini. Both were delicious! My entree was chicken parmigiana with a side of lamb bolognese. Loved it. My spouse had fettuccine with the veal meatball. The braised meatball just fell apart, so delicious. We drove 2 hours just for lunch and it’s worth it every time. The prices are reasonable and the food is out of this world.
Quite uncharacteristic for Cameron Mitchell restaurants, our server was inexperienced and inattentive. He was friendly, but we seemed to be his only table (restaurant was quiet), and he was unable to keep up on any drinks, etc. we’d see many other waitstaff, but he seemed not to be working the floor much.
We LOVE Marcella's. Our last dining experience was no different than the rest: superb, quick, attentive, polite service... amazing food... and a table visit from the executive chef, since my risotto didn't look fabulous the first time. They quickly fired me a new plate and it was really stellar. Cozy, comfortable atmosphere, fabulous cocktails, and wonderful classic italian food.
Just okay---the Sunday Salad was ordered---the meatball was good but the salad tasted as if it was pre-made earlier in the day--not crisp, just kind of wilted and tasteless. The waiter initially was attentive but lost interest in us after dessert---we likely would have ordered more drinks. Chopped Salad was ordered by two of the people at the table and again, was just okay. One guest ordered the Chicken Parm and was pleased. It just didn't really feel like a Cameron Mitchell Restaurant...seemed more like a casual chain. We have dined at the Short North location several times and it has always been enjoyable.
We love Marcella's in the Short North, so we decided to try Marcella's Polaris. We had great service but unfortunately the food just wasn't that good! My son and his wife did not like the 4 cheese pizza which is hard to believe since he never met a pizza he didn't like. My entree salad was way overdressed. Such is life. We were celebrating a special occasion so none of us said anything about our food until we got in the car, but for the amount of money we spent it was definteily disappointing.
We were a party of 15, and the servers did a great job. The reservation had included a request for a "secluded area"; the best the restaurant could offer was a long, somewhat cramped space separated from but adjoining the main dining area. The music was a little too loud and movement a little too restricted, but everyone had a wonderful time.
Great food as usual, however service was a little slow this occasion. We waited for an hour and 15 minutes before our entrees were served. Our waitress didn’t check on us for an extended period of time (about 35 minutes) to let us know the status of our food or refill drinks. Once the food arrived everything was great as always.
I brought some family from out of town to Marcella's and they were blown away! The mussels and melted cheese appetizers were amazing! We shared pizzas and pastas and a gluten free ravioli and none of it was left at the end of the meal. Panna cotta and the cherry crustada were a great note to end on. We cannot wait to come back!
