Marblehead Chowder House
Nathaniel was our server and he was wonderful. The food was delicious.
Great meal with a friend. Will definitely return for high quality seafood at a reasonable price in a casual but friendly atmosphere. Especially recommend the grilled Key West salmon and shrimp combo with citrus rice. As a lesson learned, will not attempt to pay for a meal with a prepaid VISA, as my friend intended to do, since the restaurant does NOT accept third-party credit cards.
Always a lovely dinning experience. Good food, helpful and courteous staff and a relaxed atmosphere.
Had the lobster thermidor for the first time and it was delicious. The lobster and shrimp with a Ritz cracker topping was also wonderful. The list of September specials will keep us coming back multiple times. It is also fun to win a discount for an upcoming visit by participating in the bean bag toss!
I have made several trips to Marblehead Chowder House and have never been disappointed; this past Sunday's visit on September 8, 2019 was no exception. Wanting something new I tried Alaskan Cod and was thoroughly impressed with the quality and size of the portion, the expert manner in which it was pan seared (there are other ways it could have been prepared) and the wonderful mild flavor. Complimenting the Alaskan Cod were mashed potatoes and a fantastic house salad.
All I can say is: Great Food!, Great Service (thanks to Nick), Great Experience!
Food was good. Lobster Bisque has a great taste but absolutely zero lobster. Chicken Pot Pie was very good. Lobster Risotto Balls were good but not great. Service was very slow.
Love this restaurant! Brought friends this time and they loved it too!
Specials change often
The waiter was poor they gave us are check without even asking us if we wanted something else guess we stayed to late
D&G- Your comments are very concerning and we would like to know some more details about your visit to determine what may have happened. There is certainly no reason for a server to not offer dessert and coffee at the end of a guest's meal. If you would be so kind, please contact us so that we can work with this server to be sure they are meeting our high service standards. We look forward to better serving you in the future.
The food was good except for the mashed potatoes; they were cold. I asked to have them heated and they came back cold again.
Waitress was very lack luster and did not come check back at all.
Thank you for leaving us this feedback. We take pride in giving our guests the best service possible, so your comments are certainly concerning. Great food and service, as usual!
Excellent clams casino and crab cakes. Always a good meal.
Always have a great meal here. The lobster bisque is fantastic.
Seafood at reasonable price
Our waitress Amy was fantastic and attentive. The food was fabulous. We enjoyed every minute of it. Will visit again soon
Very nice experience! Excellent service! Waitress was great! Very enjoyable dinner! Thank you so much for your kind hospitality!
Excellent service great time delicious food
We go here often and each time has always been a great place for seafood and service.
Food and service were amazing. The server gave my wife and i options to choose and she nailed it.
We were celebrating my mom’s retirement. The service was great, food was excellent, place is clean and inviting. This is one of our favorite places to dine at.
The restaurant was busy but with our reservation, we were seated within minutes. Sadly, it was next to a family with 2 screaming toddlers. Until they left, it was miserable, once they did, it was a pleasant dinner. The service was slow in that food and drinks took awhile to receive; maybe that's the point to have a drawn out dinner, but it felt slow. My Lobster Bisque soup arrived barely warm and had to be reheated. The Clam Chowder soup and Caesar salad were good. Table bread was fine. We ordered a side of perogies and were overcharged based on listed menu price. The perogies were simple bland potato topped with crab and onion and half were crispy while the other half were underdone. I put the crab in my lobster bisque to give it more flavor. The soups were not too salty, a refreshing change from what we've found in the region. It was a positive experience, overall, but there isn't anything super special that'll draw us back here often.
Nathan is an excellent server! This time I had the crab cakes and my husband had his usual broiled salmon. The food was hot and delicious. We’ll be back soon.
Meal and service was excellent.
What a delightful night out. The staff was pleasant, helpful and friendly the service was excellent. Our entrees were beautifully presented as well as generous. And everything was absolutely delicious.
Had a wonderful night, we will be back soon.
Reservations were prompt, waiter was on point, food was plenty and delicious!
Everyone was very friendly from the host staff to the servers. The food was amazing and cooked to perfection. I’ll definitely be going back again.
Had a great time thank you.
An enjoyable casual seafood restaurant with a big menu, fair prices, good food and super service. There were many selections to choose from -- it was a tough choice! My only complaint was that the 'lobster cocktail' ended up having very little lobster meat. It was served beautifully 'in shell' but there wasn't much there. Otherwise, all good!
Brought some family members here for their first visit and they really enjoyed it. We all ordered from the daily specials and were very pleased with the choice. Good appetizers too!
This restaurant never disappoints on the food. It is one of my favorites, which I frequent often. My last experience, celebrating a birthday, was very disappointing. The dessert to acknowledge that it was a birthday, was a small bowl of whip cream with a tiny candle. I was actually embarrassed for my guest who was paying for my meal. If this was not a mistake on the restaurants part and is common practice, I would suggest no recognition might be a better option. If this is standard, I will never bring a guest to this restaurant for a celebration of any type. I am used to being treated much better at other establishments acknowledging a special event.
This is a casual seafood restaurant. Prices are reasonable, menu is varied. There are always specials of the day going on. The noise level can get high depending on where one is seated. The bar area is obviously the loudest. We have never had bad service.
Food is always fresh, hot and delicious. Good wine and beer selections. Healthy choices and fresh warm rolls.
Got a much better table than if we just showed up. Was wonderful!
Very crowded for a Monday. Had to wait awhile to be seated. Enjoyed their Lobster Daze special. It included a whole 1b. steamed lobster, fries, & coleslaw. I taught my hubby how to eat a whole lobster since he normally gets only tails. It was fun & delicious. The brown butter we ordered was a perfect accompaniment. Redeemed a coupon from "hole-in-one" putt contest last month for delish shrimp cocktail. Ordered beer-battered fish & chips to go...2 huge & crispy pieces of haddock & fries. Our son loved it. Wish they would've remembered the coleslaw.
Delicious food, excellent service. Will definitely go back.
Searched on line for good seafood. So glad I found this place. Plan on returning.
I ordered Cagun tuna and it was absolutely raw. The waitress was very nice and apologized and sent it back. When it came back it tastes like it was microwaved. My wife's oyster soup was not up to your regular standards. There were only four oysters in the soup instead of the normal six. This was the only time in all the years we ate at Marblehead Chowder House that are meals were substandard. Hopefully the next time we eat there are meals will be better. I'm not sure if they have a new chef or not but if we have another meal like this we will find another seafood restaurant.
Ordered the Jambalaya and there were 4 clam shells but only 1 clam as I did take through the entire think to see if they fell out. They were very nice and brought me a bowl with 6 steamed clams. The clams were very sandy. As I was eating the Jambalaya so much sand and grit in my teeth my daughter heard it from across the table. It completely ruins a meal when that happens in my opinion. We each had the lobster cocktail and it was flavorless. My daughter had the cioppino which they put over spinach instead of pasta. It looked good and she liked it. My husband had the seafood AuGratin and he said it was tasty enough but would not order it again. I periodically keep giving this place a chance. I like going inside as I have good memories from when it used to be Cross Timbers. However, I always feel a little irritated when I leave because I never say "wow, that was a good meal!" And then grumpy that I spent so much on mediocre food. Service was prompt and pleasant.
Michelle- We're very disappointed to read these comments and we completely understand you feeling as if your dinner was ruined by the sand from the clams. We would like to make amends and send you a gift card for your next entree on us and invite you back to dine with us again, as we are confident we can provide you with a much better experience. We thank you very much for this crucial feedback, it is always greatly appreciated.
