About Marathon - 19th & Spruce

Marathon has served the neighborhoods of Philadelphia for over 25 years as a family-run restaurant group. We serve well-made American classics, and strive to source the freshest food locally available to us, including from our own Marathon Farm in Brewerytown, Philadelphia. Our favorite farm to table items include our grass-fed Cheesesteak, free-range Turkey Plate, and fluffy Omelettes made with cage-free eggs.

We love food, but more importantly we create the food that people love to eat. We set out each day to provide our guests with a complete feel-good dining experience in a casual setting. We offer warm and personal hospitality rooted in a real concern for our guests' experience and we believe that everyone should be able to afford delicious food. We bring people together through food, personal connections and artistic spaces.

Great place for get together. Lots of different choices to fit each person’s needs and mood. Festive and warm. Homey, not fussy. A terrific “go to”

Consistently good food, nice sized portions, and excellent menu choices. The service was friendly and attentive. Mixed ages from young couples and families to older couples and groups of friends. Prices for both bar and food can't be beat.

Marathon at 19th and Spruce was a pleasant surprise for me and my family. We expected a very casual restaurant and walked into a fashionable yet understated mix of modern and traditional, with sets of various-sized black chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. There was a full bar on one side of the restaurant which had live sporting events on, but we sat next to the bar and the TV never bothered us. There are large windows letting in plenty of natural sunlight. Suffice to say we loved the atmosphere. Seats were cushioned and cozy as well. The menu was just the right size, nice selections but not too extensive. There is a lovely children's menu which seems to cater to almost every child's palate. I ordered the steak frites and Caesar salad. The Caesar was delicious if a bit heavy on the fresh grated Parmesean (some would find this a plus). The fries, while not at thin as you would expect for a steak frites, were a huge hit and stolen by everyone at the table repeatedly. I ordered my steak medium rare but it looked more medium and felt a bit dry and mealy, almost as if it had been pre-cooked and re-heated. My husband's ginger soy salmon was flavorful and well cooked at medium. The cous cous that accompanied it was also good. My daughter seemed to love her pasta marinara and finished every bite. Overall a very positive experience and we would definitely go to Marathon again.

Food Is always good. I had the Turkey Burger a la carte. It was good but the country bun it was served on was a day old. A good Kaiser roll would suffice. Over all a good experience.

Consistently high quality food and friendly, professional service. Our server was exactly with us without being intrusive, and his smile would solve any problem. A great feature of this Marathon (only one where I eat) is that the portions are ample but not too much, and the price is just right for the portion size. Wish other restaurants knew how to do that. Keep up the good work.

Marathon at 19th and Spruce is our go-to restaurant for a quick healthy meal. My husband and I
eat dinner there at least once a week, usually on a hectic day with no time left to cook, but many
people eat there at least once a day. The menu is varied enough that any person, very young
to old, carnivore to vegetarian, will find many choices. Food is consistent and staff are friendly
and well trained. Reservation is good to make as it can fill up FAST!!! based on weather and day.
Their house wines(by the glass) are great value and there are also $$$wine selections and
daily specials. -This is A+ restaurant , especially since it is right off Rittenhouse Square!!!

Food is delicious and menu has a lot of choices - something for everyone. I especially like the salads. Server was courteous. Noise level at lunch was too high, not because of loud music, but because voices bounced off the walls, so we had to shout in order to have a conversation even though we were near the window.

Service was great. We also enjoyed dining outside but sorry to say the food was very mediocre. With so many fabulous restaurants in the vacunity this one is very average at best. This review has no reflection on the wonderful service we received all the way from the hostess to our server to the food runner.

Good experience overall. We had a reservation, but our table wasn't ready when we arrived. We didn't wait long though and that just gave us a chance to order a drink from their large selection at the bar. Service was quick, food was great. Really good value. Large portions for a very reasonable price. I'd definitely recommend.

This is our nearby Marathon, which can always be counted on for quick service, great food
choices, and VERY good value! There are always , aside from standard menu, seasonal
specials, mainly whole plates(protein, veg, carb) My favorite right now is the crab cake, with coleslaw and sweet potato fries. The wines by the glass are VERY well priced! The staff are
very friendly and well trained!

Marathon at 19th & Spruce is a neighborhood gem. Good food, casual and comfortable setting, and friendly service. I love running into neighbors there, watching people go by with their dogs, etc. I have been coming here for years and hope it never changes. (And please don't stop making your wonderful grilled salmon!)

Good food but wow they really try to fit as many people as possible into a rather small space. The fact that tables are so close together slows down service at times and can mean you hear your neighbors easier than your own party. Still, I'd go back for the food.

Good spin on traditional comfort foods. Waiter was very accommodating with service as we were in a hurry to get to a show and only had limited time to eat and run. Portions are a little bit smaller than normal but not bad for price and can be easily supplemented with good appetizers.

Marathon at 19th and Spruce is a local neighborhood standby. This particular visit was VERY
noisy and PACKED as it was the first warm day and many people came out !! The wait staff was
a little overwhelmed but the food came out promptly and was very good. Moroccan meatballs
starter , then salmon filet on large mixed salad greens topped with pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, sesame seeds with lemon yogurt vinaigrette, as well as grilled turkey burger with
caesar salad were perfectly cooked and presented on the plates. -Good value on wines by the
glass.
My tip would be to make sure you make a reservation on peak times during the weekend, es-
specially brunch!

Very good overall experience. The dining space is smaller than many other restaurants near Rittenhouse, which is good in my view. This isn't a quiet place, but that's part of the fun. The food was great -- very tasty, hot, and quick prep time.

We had a wonderful meal at an affordable price. My niece got the mozz & tomato sandwich on a baguette and loved it, dad got a Philly cheesesteak and even though he "wasn't very hungry" he ate it all. My mom and I got salads and they were awesome. We shared chocolate lava cake for dessert. Overall, great experience and great service.

Moved to Florida and haven't been to this little gem in years. Had lunch with my daughter who still lives in town. It was as good as I remember with many of the same items on the menu. Its a busy place but the service is good and the food is creative and delicious. Lots of people walking past the large windows keeps it interesting. I recommend the Crispy Chicken Salad!
