Good place to eat prior to Kimmel. Nice variety on menu, and good service. Make a reservation.
We made lunch reservations here for after the Eagles Super Bowl Celebration! We made it to the restaurant much earlier than our reservation time, and even though they were busy - we were seated immediately. The service and food were great, and it was wonderful to finally sit down for a bit! They did an awesome job considering how crowded and crazy the restaurant (and the entire city!) were that day.
I’ve been here MANY times but what bothered me this time was I had a reservation, called the restaurant to confirm it on the way.
The hostess said: Yes, we have you. I said: Great we’ll be there in 10 mins we’re about 4 blocks away. She said: Great no problem. We arrived, gave our name and she said: I just gave your table away! I told her: What? Why you you do that? I just called you.
Her response: I just called your name out loud and you didn’t answer. You said you were around the corner! I tried calling you.
She DID NOT try calling (smart phone log!) and we were only a FEW minutes late! The reason for me calling to be polite and let them know.
Nice managerial response! Won’t be rushing back there! Too many other awesome restaurant choices in Philly.
Marathon on the Square never disappoints. I met a friend there for lunch recently, and we both had absolutely delicious entrees, with very pleasant service. I had the (always fabulous) grilled salmon plate (asparagus, mashed potatoes, mustard sauce on salmon) and she had a large salad with grilled chicken. Desserts were wonderful too. There is something on the menu for everyone, so it's also a great place to take fussy friends or family members. While I like the other Marathon locations, this one is the best because it's "our" neighborhood place, minus all of the deafening noise of office workers grabbing a quick bite. I hope it never changes.
Came by myself during the Super Bowl, though early. The whole place was mellow and friendly As always, I enjoyed the meal.
Always a great experience at Marathon - 19th & Spruce specifically - and this occasion is no exception. Well done.
This branch of Marathon is more relaxed and comfortable than the others, but also very stylish. Nice environment, great menu, terrific service, wonderful food, and interesting beers - what's not to like?
Enjoyed a very nice dinner at Marathon on 19th and Spruce prior to going to see a show at the Drake Theater, which also was great! Marathon's menu was diverse enough to please our vegetarian daughter as well as the rest of us who had various tastes. I had the pork chop which was cooked perfectly. Highly recommended for a nice meal for not a very high price.
The room is tight and noisy but no worse than a lot of other restaurants. The food would have been pretty good if somebody had hidden the salt where the chef couldn't find it. My dining partner and I had to share a scoop of ice cream just to get the salt taste out of our mouths.
Totally baffled by my latest visit to Marathon Grill. The food was good and predictable as usual but the service was WEIRD. Took forever to get someone at our table and I had to chase the hostess down to do so. When the waitress arrived she let me knew hat my wait wasn’t too long... umm, EXCUSE ME, it was over 10 minutes and I’ll be the judge of that. I had to beg for a glass of water and when I asked for cracker with my soup she brought 1 SINGKE PACKET for the entire table, all of whom ordered soup!
Worst of all, she had a trainer following her around so I fear that they are creating by more bad servers. This is surprising since my experience on New Years Eve was fine. Maybe hire more experienced waiters or pay them better?
We had dinner in between 2 of our kids' winter concerts. Had a reservation for 8 people. The service was fabulous and we finished our dinner early enough that we had time for dessert and coffee. It may become a tradition for us!!
Marathon at 19th and Spruce ALWAYS is great & reliable!!! Look at menu to see the variety in the
offerings. Many people in the neighborhood use this like a canteen!!!! -Very little around that
offers that. W e eat there at least once a week-we always make Open Table reservation as it
fills up rapidly at night and brunch!
Pleasant surrounding, close to Rittenhouse Square. Food is consistently good. I'm very fond of the salmon plate- cooked a perfect medium and hold the sauce (heavy hand with sauce). Have sauce on the side or skip altogether - the salmon is fresh, sweet, and succulent; it needs nothing.
We dine there often, quality food and preparation at prices that compete with dining at home.
Great spot to meet for drinks or lunch. Cozy. Staff is wonderful especially Jennifer.
Picked Marathon as a quick spot for a pre-theater meal because they take reservations, and on previous occasions I have found their offerings tasty and a step or two more imaginative than average. Was not disappointed. We were seated immediately, ultimately in and out in just over an hour. We shared a hummus plate and had two different preparations of salmon. Both tasty--great meal. Good cappuccino. My only complaint would be the TINY table size. Maybe big enough for one, or for two if it's just for drinks, but not big enough for two to eat a normal dinner.
I pass this place all the time and always though the brunch looked good, but was never that motivated to go. The food was surprisingly good and they have a varied dinner menu. Everyone in our party enjoyed the meal and it was a good value. Need to come back for breakfast eventually.
Great place for get together. Lots of different choices to fit each person’s needs and mood. Festive and warm. Homey, not fussy. A terrific “go to”
Consistently good food, nice sized portions, and excellent menu choices. The service was friendly and attentive. Mixed ages from young couples and families to older couples and groups of friends. Prices for both bar and food can't be beat.
Everyone was so friendly & efficient! Food was delicious! Would highly recommend. We plan to come back to try breakfast soon!
Marathon at 19th and Spruce was a pleasant surprise for me and my family. We expected a very casual restaurant and walked into a fashionable yet understated mix of modern and traditional, with sets of various-sized black chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. There was a full bar on one side of the restaurant which had live sporting events on, but we sat next to the bar and the TV never bothered us. There are large windows letting in plenty of natural sunlight. Suffice to say we loved the atmosphere. Seats were cushioned and cozy as well. The menu was just the right size, nice selections but not too extensive. There is a lovely children's menu which seems to cater to almost every child's palate. I ordered the steak frites and Caesar salad. The Caesar was delicious if a bit heavy on the fresh grated Parmesean (some would find this a plus). The fries, while not at thin as you would expect for a steak frites, were a huge hit and stolen by everyone at the table repeatedly. I ordered my steak medium rare but it looked more medium and felt a bit dry and mealy, almost as if it had been pre-cooked and re-heated. My husband's ginger soy salmon was flavorful and well cooked at medium. The cous cous that accompanied it was also good. My daughter seemed to love her pasta marinara and finished every bite. Overall a very positive experience and we would definitely go to Marathon again.
The food is always very satisfying and the atmosphere conducive to conversation.
We eat here all the time and consistently friendly service and good food
Food Is always good. I had the Turkey Burger a la carte. It was good but the country bun it was served on was a day old. A good Kaiser roll would suffice. Over all a good experience.
Consistently high quality food and friendly, professional service. Our server was exactly with us without being intrusive, and his smile would solve any problem. A great feature of this Marathon (only one where I eat) is that the portions are ample but not too much, and the price is just right for the portion size. Wish other restaurants knew how to do that. Keep up the good work.
Good selection of ‘home-cooked’ type meals. Griendly staff and relatively chill ambience.
The level of noise inside was too loud. We ended up sitting outside so we could have a conversation. All else good.
Ate outside on a beautiful Sunday evening. Food was great. Service was great, as usual. Will continue coming back.
Marathon at 19th and Spruce is our go-to restaurant for a quick healthy meal. My husband and I
eat dinner there at least once a week, usually on a hectic day with no time left to cook, but many
people eat there at least once a day. The menu is varied enough that any person, very young
to old, carnivore to vegetarian, will find many choices. Food is consistent and staff are friendly
and well trained. Reservation is good to make as it can fill up FAST!!! based on weather and day.
Their house wines(by the glass) are great value and there are also $$wine selections and
daily specials. -This is A+ restaurant , especially since it is right off Rittenhouse Square!!!
Food is delicious and menu has a lot of choices - something for everyone. I especially like the salads. Server was courteous. Noise level at lunch was too high, not because of loud music, but because voices bounced off the walls, so we had to shout in order to have a conversation even though we were near the window.
