jalapeno, cilantro, spicy aioli
We only eat outside and even though undercover with heaters in a windy day it is quite chilly. Wait staff excellent, setting nice, large variety of food and all very good. Take reservations including for outside and strongly suggest one if normal meal hours as gets very busy. Great choice!
I brought a friend from Manhattan. She loved everything about the restaurant. The food was just right, including the matzah ball soup. My salad was perfect as usual. The waitress/kitchen was very accommodating of substitutions. I love this restaurant!!
Lovely ambiance sitting outside. Our server Madison was so funny and personable. We enjoyed having her as our server. We enjoyed our dinner!
Loved sitting outside. Our waiter was attentive and was aware of our being there and the things we ordered.
The service was very slow, i had an reservation for 1245 and wasn’t seated till 1:15 . The waiter apologized and said it was busier today than most days - he was kind of bland it was my first time here and i asked for recommendations and got “create a salad” … Um okay ?? He wasn’t very tentative to our table and I’m not sure if it’s because gratuity is already added to the bill these days but yeah he wasn’t the greatest waiter .
The food was okay nothing that I’d be raving about - we ordered the crab cake sandwich which had no flavor , the Mac & cheese i had to add salt & pepper & The calamari was Great …& the pear concoction was delicious
The noise level was loud but it doesn’t bother me we are on the corner of spruce lol
Would i come again? Probably not
We had lunch outside on the Spruce St side. The caesar salad with crispy calamari was excellent. The chicken pot pie needed more sage. Server was helpful and courteous. The outdoor tables are exposed to traffic noise.
Last night's dinner at Marathon was delicious, as usual. The trout special with couscous and grilled vegetables was wonderful and, moreover, a good value. Service was attentive and friendly. Marathon is a valued neighborhood institution and I hope it never closes.
Reliable go-to for lunch with my niece during her lunch break. Great salads…
Despite no shortage of help, sat there for 23 minutes without so much as a glass of water. Departed. Will not return.
We arrived early and they seated right away even though we had reservations for 630 without hesitation. We had an amazing server Ryan ,she did not leave us wanting for anything. The food was great and the prices were very reasonable. We will be back
We were seated promptly with our reservation outside. But there isn’t much ambiance when cars are screeching by. Service was generally good but our waitress had tables inside as well as outside so we didn’t see her too much, and had to ask for more water and about desert and the check. The calamari and flatbread were very tasty. Our group had the risotto, salmon sandwich and ribs and everyone’s meal was delicious!
Food good. Service good. Environment good.
Nice but I must say I prefer the Marathon at 16th and Sansom. While eating they were carrying the trash out through the restaurant where we, and others, were eating. Kinda gross.
The food was good but the service wasn’t. We called in advance because we were running a few minutes late and were told that they wouldn’t be able to guarantee that they could hold our table. We arrived 8 minutes late and they had given our table away. Normally, there’s a 15 minute grace period at other restaurants we’ve been too, especially if you call in advance. They did get us another table after about 10 minutes but then our food took a full hour to come out. Most likely won’t be returning. The day we went was my birthday and the experience definitely put a damper on things.
Menu different from website and over crowded.
Maybe cause the outside table are expanding the customers consisting that inside the table were all full...but our service was not accurate and not giving the proper attention (no tools provided when food arrived and when finally received a New set cause the first one was not properly clean)
We are usual customer and we understand the moment....
consistently very good for a casual, friendly, neighborhood eatery, with high quality, well prepared, tasty food. You can always count on it!
This is where my friend likes to go ANYTIME!!!! She’s a 97yr old foodie and loves marathon on 19th! Consistently, absolutely delicious!
A quiet late afternoon - early evening at Marathon - good service good food as always.
Marathon is a consistently great restaurant. The menu offers a wide variety of food at reasonable prices. The food is always tasty. It never disappoints. The staff is accommodating.
Good for varied groups of people. A nice variety of food, (sandwiches, salads, entree's , apps) that can meet lots of people's tastes and price points. All the food was fantastic, and some of us had enough for leftovers. Great, attentive service. I forget about this place, but am always impressed by the wonderful, consistent food. The only downside in their is no ambiance, it always feels like a loud lunch time dining experience, even in the evenings.
Outdoor seating on a warm evening - the salads were great as was the service.
We ate outside and enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. The meal was surprisingly inexpensive.
I had the best crab cakes at Marathon. We come here with some frequency, but it was the first time I had the crab cakes. My husband was happy with the Marathon burger, although he decomposed it. Our waiter was gracious and funny and a pleasure.
Food always well prepared and fresh ingredients. Outside seating next to trash piled up om the street and near the bins was a slight detractor.
Great place for outdoor dining in summer. Food selection good and reasonably priced.
I’ve been chowing down at each and every marathon all my years
(a lot)in philly. Servers always tops
Food is an incredible value. Fairly priced. Kudos to all Mgt and staff. Feeling safe in your restaurant is my priority and I do!!!!
Although I WOULD recommend Marathon overall, my entree (baby back ribs) was overcooked and charred on the edges: very dry, except for one rib in the middle. I think it would have tasted good if it had been removed from the heat 10 minutes earlier . . . The service was excellent.
Delish! Never disappoints!
Server was exceptional.
The quality of food and wine was very good, but the interior ambiance suffers. I would like the restaurant much more if finishes and lighting were updated.
Phenomenal food with affordable pricing; bang for the buck. Offers good vegan options too
Our kitchen away from home. Good affordable meals with friendly service with the added enjoyment of being able to dine outside with our dog. We go often.
My friend and I had lunch at Marathon yesterday and were very pleased. The omelets we ordered were hot and well prepared. Out waitress was attentive and correctly transmitted our special requests to the kitchen. We will return.
Service was so bad...they lost our order and when it did come, it wasn't right....
It’s wonderful to have a reliably good restaurant in the neighborhood. It’s great that they are hiring high school kids as daytime servers - they are delightful.
Consistently good food and great staff- ate outside and it was a bit noisy with the trucks.
Great neighborhood restaurant. Good quality food, reasonable prices and terrific service.
always enjoy casual eating here. great neighborhood asset.
