Wanted a quality but not too upscale family friendly place for our last dinner as Philadelphia tourists and found it. A little noisy, but the place was filled with a pre-Friday theater crowd. Food was great and service fine.
The Sangria, Moroccan Meatball appetizer, Braised Shortrib special, and apple pie a la mode were phenomenal. The only reason I did not give them 5-stars for the food was because my fiance wasn’t in love with his blackened chicken sandwich.
My dinner was fairly priced and tasted excellent. The wait was not too bad considering how crowded it was and the staff was very nice.
Delicious food! Nice service. Lava cake dessert to die for.
The dishwashing area was not in the back but rather surrounded by dining tables. They were clanking dishes at a ridiculously loud volume. It was so disturbing that we didn’t stay and took our food to go. By the time we got home our food was cold.
We've become regulars. The food is fresh and the menu has a good selection. Priced well, with decent wines and beers. Staff tries hard to please and we always feel welcomed.
We went late on a Sunday, close to closing time, so it was not very busy. The playlist is what did it for me: so fun! Lots of 90s and 2000s throwbacks (Alanis Morissette, Destiny's Child, TLC, Matchbox 20). We were bopping and could see other tables nodding their heads too. I don't know if it's always like this, but I hope so.
Our waitress, Abby, was very pleasant and helpful. The food as always was fresh and very good. The Manager, Cory, always stops by our table to chap as does Metra who keeps things rolling there.
What a jewel! Gourmet fresh food and great value. We were visiting and dined here twice during our stay.
They made special accommodations when our reservation of of 8 became 9 at the last minute. Everyone liked their food. Service was good. We were able to focus on being together and had a great evening! I would take another group back to Marathon Grill any time!
The food was very good, was served quickly, and was not too expensive.
A mouse ran over my foot! I told the manager, and he just said thanks for being understanding. Whaaaat? Very sexist response. Then he proceeded to blame it on nearby construction. But clearly, it's a problem known by management, but yet the restaurant continues to remain open. Extremely disturbing!
Also, the food was not great. We had the mussels, caesar salad, sweet potato fries, grilled cheese (cheese was not even melted), and chocolate lava cake (not worth the calories). Overall a very disappointing experience. The waiter also split our tab incorrectly, and supposedly, management was unable to rectify the tab.
Love Marathon even if they ever get the food wrong they fix it. Usually my meatballs aren't on the menu for brunch but they made it happen! It was our anniversary & the food came out timely, yummy and right. The were very busy but did their best to accommodate our seating preference, food and not make us wait long. Whenever Im in Philly I try to go here myself and take others even my friends with kids!
Service and food were great as always.
Marathon is a nicely decorated neighborhood restaurant. The décor reminded me a bit of a steakhouse and the atmosphere is lively but not loud. We seated at the window which was great for people watching. Our server Holly was excellent and I knew we would get great service from her the moment she greeted us. We started with the Marathon Sampler app. Lightly breaded calamari and chicken fingers, sweet potato fries, and cheesesteak wontons which comes with a few dipping sauces, one of which was jalapeno with a nice kick! I had the Marathon burger with Vermont cheddar and caramelized onions. The burger was quite large, around 8-9 ounces. Very juicy and cooked medium rare as ordered. The county bun was light but hearty and did not fall apart. As usual, I had a side of sweet potato fries. I could not get enough of these! My husband had the grilled salmon with mustard sauce, mashed potatoes and asparagus. Salmon was firm and tender and the sauce paired nicely with the fish and vegetable. Even though they were relatively busy, our food came out quickly. Overall, it was an excellent experience.
Nothing special. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie special. It was tasty, but it wasn’t a pot pie. It was all the ingredients of a pot pie poured in a bowl with a square puff pastry floating on top. No crust. A little weird, but again, pretty tasty.
The Wait staff, managers and servers are always friendly and fun to talk to. Makes the meals enjoyable.
My hubby and I both had delicious meals. He had jambalaya and it was the turkey platter for me. The cranberry sauce was the best. The turkey is roasted in house and the mashed and broccoli were well prepared. The broccoli had no seasonings or butter which I prefer- more healthful. The service was great. It’s a terrific value. We will definitely return.
The food and service was very good. The Marathon burger was awesome. All there burgers are great.
The food was good however it was very chilly in there could have used my coat. And when we wanted to wait or we couldn't find him.
Attentive service, good, reasonable food, just what we wanted
It would have been useful to know beforehand that the restaurant does not accept Discover as a form of payment. It was inconvenient; otherwise, everything else was fine.
Prompt, friendly service and great comfort food on a cold winter day!
Love coming to Marathon for a casual girls night out!
Dinner with four friends after holiday shopping. Relaxing booth, not crowded and varied menu to please everyone. Good portions and flavors. Everything was fresh and presented well.
Good food, good service. Kids and adults were happy with options and with our final selections.
We had reservations and were seated immediately on a busy Saturday night. My crab cake platter was delicious as was the potato leek soup. My husband ordered chicken parm and said
the chicken was tough. He requested more marinara sauce for his pasta. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. We like eating at Marathon Grill after a concert and visiting the holiday events in the city.
Everything was great! Very pleased with the food and the service. Only wish that Michelob Ultra was an option:-)
It’s a casual spot that I went to catch up with a friend so it was a good choice for that, but the waitress forgot about us and we didn’t have service for a pretty long time. The food was decent, but nothing special. Any tables near the doors or windows were really cold.
Really enjoyed our dinner here. Had a large group of 9, and we had great service. Fun spot.
Our reserved table for eight was ready when we arrived. We were seated quickly and given menus. There are a wide variety of beverage options as well as food for all different tastes.
I walk by everyday on my daily lunch walks and the place is always packed! My family was looking for a place to have dinner after enjoying some of the holiday festivities in town. So I thought it would be a great time to try it out. It was a Wednesday night so it wasn’t packed which was perfect for conversation. It was warm and welcoming. The food was awesome and reasonably priced. My family loved it! We are definitely going back!!
Always a nice night at Marathon. Menu has someting for whatever mood I'm in. Staff is friendly & helpful. They're all good but we prefer the 16th & Sansom location.
My meatloaf was very good. My wife and I often choose the Contol Freak Salad. She ordered one last night. She mentioned that as of late, the salads seem to have less of the several add-on ingredients than they used to.
Amazing food and service. One of our go-to's whenever we're in town
The burgers were very good and my daughter said it was the best chicken parmesan she has ever had.
Always a good meal can be expected with fine service. Menu options for all tastes!!!
A night out with the girls was nice bottle of wine three course meal and excellent service who could ask for anything more,oh and it was restaurant week 😋😋😋😋😋
My husband enjoyed the scallops but my chicken wasn't that great. Came out room temperature and didn't really taste that well. The potatoes weren't good either.
Ate with my younger brother who was visiting me this weekend. Marathon is one of my go to places. The apps sampler was perfect and the wontons were delicious. The brisket was good but could have had more flavors. The chicken tacos were really good and the breaking was perfect. Great meal overall
