Nashville chicken is to die for . A wonderful meal. The deserts are wonderful . Spiked ice cream and blue berry cobbler very special .A definite Gem .
Josh was an excellent waiter! Food was delicious, very different menu then the usual around town restaurants. Catfish, ribs, hushpuppies, the desserts were incrediable! Especially the chocolate pecan cake! I would definitely go back again!
Went there for my husband’s 40th birthday after reading the great reviews. Seems like the entire restaurant sat at the entire time and the staff and kitchen could not handle it. Our server was nice but everything took forever. We wanted to toast my husband but had to wait 15 minutes for the pitcher of sangria to come even though the rest of the table had their drinks. I asked for my 4 year olds meal to come out with the appetizer, it came out 10 minutes after the sampler came out. Our main courses came out in shifts. The andouille shrimp and grits special was delicious. We ordered dessert and I reminded the server that it was my husband’s birthday he said ok he’ll take care of it. Dessert comes out and he forgot and then runs in the back and gets a cup of whipped cream with a candle.
Took my father-inlaw for his 85th birthday. He thoroughly enjoyed the jambalaya and the drinks.
We'll go back again
Mara's was a major disappointment. The food was overcooked, under seasoned and over priced. This is not a restaurant that warrants an $80 tab for two people without drinks. the waitress thought laughing loudly was being friendly. We were urged to have an appetizer since the food would be a wait, no bread was offered. This is a luncheonette with mardi gras beads hanging from the walls. I didn't taste the croc feet, the chicken was bad enough. This isnot authentic Cajun, southern or slow cooked barbeque. Skip this place.
Creative, delicious dishes in a friendly atmosphere. Service was terrific! Will be going back soon.
The food was absolutely delicious and the whole experience was great! Mara visited our table multiple times to check in on us and to give us some suggestions. Everything was amazing! We will def be back soon!!
Erika was amazing! she was extremely friendly, suggested the best meals and was very attentive . My friend and I loved her and her suggestions. We will def be coming back!
Consistently good food at good prices with an usual short wait
Drinks are a little pricey
Food, as always, is great. The gumbo and grilled oysters are tremendous and who can beat their collard greens? Desserts are homemade and delicious.
We had an intimate table for two amidst a lively, civilized crowd and our food was, as always, spectacular. Grilled oysters, blackened redfish for me and a platter of meat and potatoes for my husband, with a side of jalapeno cornbread. Jack and coke in a mason jar for him, an oaky chardonnay, here. An altogether lovely --both relaxed and energizing--evening. We don't go often, but always swear we need to do take-out from here
The best way to spend Fat Tues on Long Island. Definitely the best New Orleans Food on Long Island.
The meal was average at best. The service was good not great. The place is nice but just a one time a year visit.
Place is great! From the moment we sat down, down to the last bite of that “OH My GOD” pie. Trust me, and make room for dessert for that piece of pie. You’ll thank me later 😉. Our waitress was so friendly, food was deelish- we started with fried pickles, friend green tomatoes and hush puppies. Lord Jesus, those hush puppies. Washed them down with mint tea( fave non-alcoholic drink there). Had their mugoverall feel of the place is laid back and chill.
Amazing food at a reasonable price. Everything is fresh and cooked to perfection.
The food was outstanding. I had a half rack of St. Louis style. They were one of the best bbq ribs I’ve ever had. The service wasn’t great our waiter was polite and very busy but the food took an hour to come out. That being said I will be back for great bbq.
Food was excellent. Servers were very attentive and nice. We would recommend to friends.
Amazing southern food! The service was great!
If I lived closer than 1,500 miles away, I would go there 3 times a week!!
Great food and service
A lot of gluten free choices
It’s our favorite place. The food is great, the staff is so wonderful and friendly. We always know it will be a great meal in a relaxed comfortable environment.
Haven't been to Maras in a while so we decided to give it another try. We did not remember why we stopped coming here. The dinner we had Sat nite reminded us why. We waited a very long time for our food to be served. The fried green tomatoes were very good but our shrimp Po Boy and brisket sandwich were very skimpy and the shrimp was not crispy and very small and fishy tasting. We don't know what happened to the food but it was not like we remembered. We did have dessert the pecan pie which is served cold and no whipped cream or ice cream. Our waiter was very good but no apologies about the wait. We were thanked numerous times for our patience which got annoying because they could have bought us a beer or dessert
We love the grilled oysters and have never had a bad meal
This was the first time that we are here. We very much enjoyed a now closed location in the East Village some time ago. We were looking forward to this spot, but were not wowed, as we had hoped. Sampler appetizer was $20. I though that a little high for 2 shrimp, 2 wings, 2 deviled eggs and 2 fried green tomatoes (that were ripe, very thin and very red not green). Duck special very tasty and served appropriately rare. Catfish New Orleans (Catfish filet topped with crawfish etouffee) was just ok brought tepid, not warm with uninspired, bland presentation. Our waiter was very nice and accomodating.
We might return to try lunch if we are in the neighborhood, but we are not apt to go out of our way.
Food and service were great!
It was a family dinner for my husband's birthday which was delightful
The meal was good and my husband enjoyed
his time at Mara's
We love Mara's. the food is incredible and the service is prompt and friendly. Just be prepared for a noisy, tight squeeze in a weekend night. Oh, and a big tab.
Took my son and his girlfriend to Mara’s for their birthdays. Food was fantastic, great service and a fun atmosphere. Definitely a place to dine for great Cajun and barbecue.
Mara & her staff are always very hospitable & the food is always delicious.
Food is always very good and the Owner is on site to help which is unusual
Great food, awesome hospitality and service. a real GEM!
Fantastic food and service . Great list of remarkable bourbon and rye. Fantastic desserts
Always excellent food prepared like the name says "homemade"! Every dish is fresh and prepared to perfection. Thanks for putting your grilled clams back on the menu. Stuffed crawfish bread is something you cannot miss! There are actually a lot of things that you can't miss. Can't wait to go back.
We were in the mood for oysters, ribs and fried chicken. Fortunately we do not live far from Mara's and had the most delicious meal. They oysters are always fresh. We could not decide which ribs to have so we had a few of each and the fried chicken is always a winner. We can't wait to go back.
A unique southern meal in syosett was a surprise and can't wait to go back.
Food and service were outstanding! They accommodated our large group and we didn't feel rushed at the end of our meal-
Just a phenomenal place!
Mara's is a fun restaurant. Once seated, you feel like you are in the deep south. The menu is extensive and it's hard to narrow it down what to order. They have a huge beer and whiskey selection and flights of different libations are also offered. Two BBQ sauces are served with the food: Texas (sweeter) and Arkansas (spicier.) The cole slaw side is wonderful as is the red beans and rice. We loved the jalapeno cornbread also. If you have room, the desserts are excellent. It is a very unique spot and so happy to have found it.
Horrendous food. We were a party of 4 seated at a tiny table. The tables are ridiculously close to each other. Don't be fooled by the menu language. The jumbo chicken wings are actually party wings smothered in hot sauce. The food was inedible due to the overwhelming amount of salt in the rub. The smoked chicken was the driest I've ever tasted and the ribs were equally as bad. The prices are outrageous. $17 for a glass of wine is thievery for a place like this. As one of my table mates said, "the next time I want to eat dinner in a phone booth I'll come here." We will not be returning to give this restaurant another try.
First time visit for two senior couples on a quiet early Wednesday night. Restaurant adapted our order to meet a lactose free diet and tried to keep the sodium content as low as possible. We all enjoyed the decor.Staff was helpful and when we told them we were going to a movie shortly, they moved on getting us out of the restaurant quickly.
