Mara's Continental Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
This was our second time dining at Mara's. Our first experience was so delightful that we wanted to try it again. Jennifer the bartender is a delight, and Jim an amazing server. We left raving about dinner
This past Saturday we made a reservation, arrived early to talk with Jennifer. The bar was packed, and the restaurant was full, due a large party of 30 plus patrons. We had wonderful appetizer's at the bar, and her cocktails are amazing.
We were seated in a small dining room at a table for 2. I ordered the pork while my sister had the rib eye, after a wonderful gorgonzola salad.
The food is amazing give Mara's a try.
In one word- phenomenal! Staff was wonderful, food so delicious and atmosphere was so tastefully decorated for the season. Had the salmon- very fresh and cooked to perfection. Do not pass on the homemade desserts! We shared a chocolate hazelnut mousse cake and were in heaven! A well kept secret that the rest of Jersey needs,to know about!
Food was excellent we love everything we ordered specially the tuna tartar. Service was great. Only recommendation is a little update on the dining area specifically the bathroom. But overall it was great. I'll come again for dinner. I would like to try their Cheesecake.
My husband were there just to have dinner.
we came in for Happy Hour before dinner & the ambience there was very nice.
we ended up having a conversation with other patrons who we @ the bar.
my drink was superb, the bartender made up a combination of Mango Margarita.
I have to say, I was kid of feeling it.
then we moved into the dining room & we ordered our Entre.
I ordered the Pan Seared Scallops & my husband ordered the Salmon.
when I tasted the Scallops, I thought I was in heaven.LOL.
that was the best served Scallops I've ever tasted.
Everything was wonderful. Our Wedding Anniversary is coming up. Sept. 4, 2017
we're thinking of going back to Mara's.
I love Mara’s!! I had the crab topped fish with seasonal veggies & roasted potatoes - the garlic parmesan crust on the potatoes is to die for. I would dine here just for that. I’m also a big fan of their tuna poke - I haven’t found a place that makes it this good outside of Maui. The servers are very welcoming and accommodating and the food is spectacular.
Our dinner was very satisfying. We shared a large salad topped with pears and Gorgonzola cheese. We also shared the surf and turf special, which consisted of a boneless ribeye steak and two very large grilled shrimp. Everything was delicious. Vegetables were extremely fresh and not overcooked. The roasted potatoes served with the entree were unbelievably crisp and habit forming, prepared with oil, garlic, chives and salt. Dessert was a very tasty blueberry crumble made with fresh blueberries. The location and parking aren't great, which probably accounts for the reason that the restaurant hasn't been very busy on either of the two Saturday nights that we have eaten there.
Don't let the outside fool you. This place is a diamond in the rough. The ambiance was romantic, service was great and the food was excellent. My fiance and I felt well attended to, and the service was fast. We are now considering hosting our rehearsal dinner here.
This was our second time dining at Mara's, and two for two the food was excellent. Our service on this second trip was a little bit slower then usual due to a comedy show being held in the upstairs dining area, but our waiter took it in stride and did his very best to be attentive and timely. In fact I want to thank both our waiter and the owner/chef, who felt the need to personally apologize to us for a drunk/rude guest who happened to be a bit loud while we were dining. To be honest, I felt like we were getting our very own comedy show downstairs free of charge, but I can understand the owner's concern. Through no fault of Mara's, these two guests could have disrupted a nice quiet dinner for other diners. I thought it was a class act for chef/owner to personally come out and apologize. They already impressed us with their food twice, so witnessing firsthand the true passion of an owner for his establishment only heightens my respect. Looking forward to going back again.
We went to Mara's to see Bobby Valli and were pleasantly surprised by the restaurant. The service was good ,Jimmy our waiter was knowledgeable about dietary restrictions and willing to discuss preferences with the chef.
The food was very good. We had trouble trying to not over order because it all looked good.
The prices were reasonable which is always a plus.
We will be back. It may be a go to place in the future.
Well worth the trip. It's a neighborhood gem that more people should try. Service is at a slower pace which we enjoy so we can savor every course. The pork chop is one of the best entrees on the menu. Save room for homemade desserts. Chocolate mousse and Cremeans brûlée are delicious.
An incredible find. No explanation for such a fine restaurant with 1st class premium provisions at this location. This place would succeed in NY or San Francisco. I could visit 100 restaurants and not find a better grade of tuna. If you thought Grandma's cheese cake couldn't be beat, this one beats it. Owner must hit the fish market at 4 am, because no one else around has his shrimp. This is my new haunt. He needs a 2nd bar tender mor and diss Frontera as the house wine, but I'm here to stay.
Pleasant experience from start to finish. Great specials were offered. I had the Pork Ossobuco. The Pork just fell off the bone and the sauces were delicious. My wife enjoyed her order of shrimp scampi. We had not seen colossal shrimps like the ones served in her dinner for quite some time. Very attentive and friendly staff. Will go again.
Had dinner here for our 30th wedding anniversary in February, I've been here a long time ago, the deco has changed for the better. Much bigger but still intimate. Now for the food! Oh my God ,it's outrageous. I had the Breast of duck and my wife had scallops. Both to die for , and for dessert we had chocolate hazelnut mousse.WOW can't wait to go back .
When we pulled up to this restaurant we found parking to be a bit of a problem. I had heels on and the pavement was ruined with holes and cracks. We got there early so we sat at the bar. The bar was running happy hour so it was $1 off all drinks and half off food. The bartender, Jennifer was a doll! She was very personable, funny and made great conversation with everyone at the bar. We were seated at 5:30pm. The ambience of the restaurant was nice. I wasn't expecting it to be so homely inside. Our waiter was very friendly, always made sure we were okay and offered great advice. We tried the mozzarella tower special for an appetizer which was delicious! I went with the fried artichoke hearts which lacked flavor. They had no taste to them at all, I was disappointed. We had a pitcher of red sangria which was way too sweet too. For dinner I had the scallops, so did my dad and my husband had the shrimp and mom had the trout. We all felt that the food was just okay. The prices were really high for the meals we had. I mean all of the food came with your basic potato and veggie. Why? You should change up the sides and make the dishes more exciting. My husband had 3 shrimp with his meal and it was over $30. Lastly, my dad asked for a double espresso and the waiter came back with what looked like a full cup of coffee. I know why a shot of espresso is so there was NO WAY that was a double. My dad said it tasted terrible. I ordered the coconut cake which I actually loved. They even display the dessert like a bakery and take it away to slice, I appreciated that. The coconut cake was silly, soft and absolutely delicious. I don't think we will go back to this restaurant, we had better. I might just sit at the bar if I do go back!
