Maplewood Grill - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The service was excellent, well timed, the staff was knowledgeable about the regular menu and the daily specials. We shared the four cheese pesto flatbread , it was delicious. I had the Crispy Beer Can Chicken, it wasn't bad, but could have used just a little more something!
We have been to the Maplewood grill several times and as always it was a great experience, and we look forward to dining there in the future.
It was our first time visiting Maplewood Grill. Despite being located in a strip mall, the restaurant surpassed my expectation. Very nice décor, excellent piano music and topped off with excellent cuisine. Although we did not sit at the bar, it looked like an excellent place to be. My wife and I will definitely be back. An excellent find and highly recommended for people looking for a quiet setting to share conversation and enjoy food and drink.
Food sucked. Highly advise against going here. The quality of the meat was so low, that not even the dog could eat the leftovers. For the prices we paid, the food was over cooked, soggy. Our server was impatient considering this is a place people go to for local meet-ups with other townies. The support staff, bussers and runners were very attentive and didn't slow down from the time we walked in. Bottom line, find another place.
The restaurant is comfortable, food is good, service is good. If you can tolerate the owner/host, you are good to go. He has no personality, is obnoxious to his wait staff and bus-boy/girl staff...so rude in fact that it is uncomfortable for the clientele. He needs to step back from the public and watch over the kitchen!
We love Maplewood Grill. We celebrated Valentine's a little early to avoid the crowd. Maplewood never disappoints. They had a dark beer on the menu which can be hard to find. And they made hubby's martini very dirty - just the way he likes. The entrees were prepared perfectly. Service was excellent. And the carrot cake was fabulous!
We have dined at the Maplewood Grill a handful of times and thought of it as a fine neighborhood place--providing good food without a lot of frills and with a reasonable price tag. We'll, those days are apparently gone. The prices have gone up, the quality of the food has gone way down, and the service was aggressively bad. One diner had to defend his plate from being snatched away--not once, but twice--by a server who wanted to take dessert orders before the diner has finished his main course. She seemed intent on making it clear that she didn't care whether we ever returned and should certainly leave soon--even though the restaurant was a few hours from closing. If the food had been anywhere close to its old standard, we would have shrugged off the service, but it was mediocre at best. Maplewood has lost four patrons as a result. We won't be going back.
I love The Maplewood Grill. Excellent food (with a nod towards German/Austrian cuisine). Wonderful waitstaff. Piano bar in part of the restaurant. Our meals were delicious and we had the most delightful server (can't remember her name, but her husband works there too). We moved to the bar and polished off the Booker's Bourbon and talked with the regulars at the bar. A fun night with great food!
Went for brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. Their espresso machine was not working. Huge bummer for brunch and the prices we were paying. Also, it was my friend's b-day and they didn't offer to do anything especially since the machine was broken. We paid for a dessert for my friend. Overall food was good, not great for the what we paid for. Don't go expecting anything special or more than average in service or food.
Had dinner with friends before a concert at Wolf Trap. The location of Maplewood is perfect for a pre-concert meal or snack at the Barns or the Filene Center. The restaurant is quiet so that conversation is easy and enjoyable. The food is delicious. This was our third visit and the food has been excellent each time.
Would not recommend for a birthday. We brought our own cake, plates, etc. and they still wanted to charge a $2/person fee even though there was no one else there, so we weren't taking up a table. It ended up in a fight at the table because some people wanted to stay there and others were indignant that they would charge a fee and stalked out. They also didn't do anything special for my birthday. Also, they could have put us in the more private room.
Excellent dinner! We ordered off the daily specials list, so specific items may not be available on future dates. I had the fried green tomato appetizer and pork schnitzel and my wife had a salad and Rouladen. While our mains were German, the restaurant has a good selection of American and international items. Servings are large ... we often dine out at least once on a weekend with the intent of creating leftovers ... mission accomplished. The only disappointment were the two house cabernet wines, neither were a hit with us. Our server suggesting that on future visits we first ask for a sample/taste which they will do. Fair enough.
Glad to see that an old favorite has been well recreated as a friendly, somewhat neighborhood feeling, restaurant ... under the same ownership and management.
I am truly ashamed at myself for not checking out this gem of a restaurant after 8 years living in Vienna. There are so many new places popping up in the Vienna area and I assumed this place was old and dated. Hardly, the case. It is warm and inviting and the food is the same. At so many places I have tried over the last few years I can't recall what I ordered but here I want to go back and re-order what I ordered and try more things off the menu. I am pescatarian and try to also watch carbs and there were so many items to order on the menu. I am still dreaming of the delicious Maplewood salad (goat cheese, roasted apples, dates and smoked trout!!!). Looking forward to a return trip which will be very soon.
