The food was very good and the restaurant was very accommodating to allergies. They made potato wedges to substitute the bread for the allergy.
It looks really pretty here but the service was horrible and the menu badly needs a redo. First off, they stop serving breakfast at 10:00am on a Sunday! Who does that and who wants Shepherds Pie at 10:30 am? It took a good 10 mins to get a coffee after sitting down and another 10 mins to get half and half, I had ask 3 times and ask for a spoon. The servers spent more time appearing busy then providing actual service.
Don’t waste your time here, there are so many better places.
The service started with a few blunders: received the wrong menu, water not poured for some of the table, dirty wine glasses. The servers were there too frequently so it felt like we couldn't have a conversation, but our wine glasses were never refilled.
The food wanted to be good, but the seasoning was off. Interesting dishes, but they didn't come together. The short rib strudel was good. The sharing plates are worth skipping. The mushroom fondue tasted like uncooked roux. The orange sherbet with the fois gras was gummy and very sweet - offputting. The 5 spice pork belly was good.
Not worth the money. Service sealed the deal on not wanting to give it another try.
The food was good but was not a stand out. They were not too informed about gluten free options
The sofa cushions were egregiously stained and disgusting.
Lovely dinner — the duck entree was superb! Really enjoyed the entire meal.
Fine dining on par with the best restaurants of NYC and SF at less than half the price. Super cool ambiance as well.
Gorgeousness venue, attentive service, beautiful presentation and delicious food. Wine list was good too! Portion sizes a little small but otherwise a great choice for out of town business contacts.
Beautifully crafted, delicious dishes in an elegant “quirky” setting. We had a lovely time!
Delightful surroundings, VERY comfortable seating, locovare ingredients, nicely sized portions, reasonable wine prices
The food is good but portions were drastically different among the same sections of the menu.
Food was delicious and inventive! Loved the raw oysters and rockfish was delicious! Service great....let us take our time!
Superb food and service! Love the architecture and art of the Quirk. Just wish the lighting were a bit lower... The dining area is adjacent to the hotel lobby with no separation and felt a bit bright. We desired more of a cozy experience.
Better than expected! The plating and presentation of the food was such a pleasant surprise. The taste of the food was amazing. I never clear my plate anywhere, but I ate every crumb off of my plate here! The dessert was okay, but you wouldn't come here just for dessert anyway. The cocktails are also really good. The service was great. Tony was an awesome waiter who gave us great suggestions. Would definitely return for another special occasion!
Chef's selections for the tasting menu were outstanding - well selected, well prepared, well presented. The portion sizes and variety left the diners feeling full without feeling stuffed.
The ambiance of Maple & Pine is gorgeous and intimate, with excellent service to complement the beautiful interior. Overall, the food is beautiful, creative, and delicious (dessert was disappointing but everything else was great).
Great food, no value
My husband decided we would not join the 50,000 Ricmonders trying to get dinner reservations for Valentine’s Day. Instead, we made reservations for lunch. We selected Maple and Pine because of the unique appeal of the Quirk Hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with the restaurant. It was open and bright. The menu was rather limited to salads and sandwiches but our meals were well prepared.
We were there for the $60 per perso. valentines fixed price menu. The portions were tiny. My tempura style broccoli appetizer came with about 4 broccoli florets and nothing else. My beef short rib ‘strudel’ - while tasty - was about half the size of a hot pocket. The lemon cake with berries dessert was good, but the rose infused ice cream it came with tasted like perfume. With 2 cocktails and the included 18% gratuity , our bill was more than $170. Great ambience , professional , courteous wait staff , but hard to say we got our money’s worth.
Meal overall was fantastic. For appetizers, two of us split dumplings (incredible) and brussel sprouts (also great). My wife got the duck entree which was excellent. I had the short ribs which were pulled beef wrapped in phylo - good overall but the plate was overwhelmed by the side, multiple stacked piles of pickled cabbage. That was my only complaint. Solid carrot cake desert.
We had an excellent breakfast at Maple and Pine, and our waitress was exceptional. I had my young daughters with me, and they enjoyed it as well, which is quite a feat as they don't always love eating out. Phenomenal experience!
Fantastic time and meal at Maple & Pine. It was our first time and we couldn’t have been happier. The duck was outstanding and my date had the Rockfish. He absolutely loved his as well. Drinks were well balanced and delicious. Can’t wait to go back!
A wonderful dining experience! Could not recommend more highly for a special occasion.
Maple & Pine is an experience, not simply a meal out. The wine list is quite good without being extensive, and varies in price to give all a shot at a good bottle within their price range. All the dishes we had were excellent, other than being way too salty, which is why it didn't get an outstanding grade. We had a terrific time, and our waitress was knowledgeable and entertaining, but didn't reappear for long stretches at a time.
The Brussels sprouts, curried carrots, short ribs, and Scottish salmon were amazing presentations. Again, too salty, or they would have been perfect. Thank you.
Service and food both excellent. Décor modern and sleek.
Very good brunch with an interesting and creative use of ingredients. Also enjoyed room service dinner from this same restaurant since it is associated with the Quirk Hotel and it was also exceptionally creative, correctly portioned and delicious.
The cocktails are unbelievable but the food was horrible for brunch. The shrimp had been cooked ahead of time and they were small and hard. Not what I expected after having a good dinner there
The brunch blueberry French toast was fantastic!! Worth the trip. If you want your Eggs Benedict to have a firm white, you'll need to specify. Service was great.
The food was great, and the whole space is very well curated.
Fabulous food and service - overall 5* experience. The only slight downfall being a chilly breeze from the gallery however this was only initially at the start of the meal. I would 100% recommend for a special ocassion. Mine was for my 21st and couldn't have asked for better!
Very nice dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday!
Arrived a 201 West Broad, waited in line for about 10 minutes as woman at desk was checking a customer in. Advised we had reservations at 1pm. She explained we didn't check in there, but behind her and to the left where there is a side door. Architects, please do something to make it evident where one is supposed to go when one enters the building, a sign perhaps? We were seated, given menus, and I noted it wasn't particularly busy. Took a good 5-10 minutes for waitperson to greet us. I ordered the gumbo as a starter and other eater had Caesar salad. My soup plate came with 3 lonely shrimp and some messily cut up chives. Waitperson then pours soup over the shrimp to create gumbo. Really? Where is the lovely simmered flavor when you do that? Further, displaying 3 shrimp like a piece of the True Cross doesn't bespeak grandeur, it tells me they don't use a lot of shrimp. Broth was tepid, the soup bowl was cold. Other eater said Caesar salad was meh. I had the steak hash in a red pepper sauce, Other Eater had the breakfast burger served on a biscuit with a fried egg. The hash was made with strips of meat, rather than chopped up meat, the baby potatoes were served al dente. The red pepper sauce was delicious. If you expect meaty and crispy like your favorite diner hash, do not order this. Other eater stated his burger was "OK" but no gastronomic revelation. We drank a bunch of coffee, and because the portions were a bit small, with no breakfast breads provided, we ordered dessert. Other Eater had chocolate ganache cake and I had the carrot cake. Both came with interesting ice cream, one was coffee and mine was orange/raisin/cinnamon. Would have hoped for a bit of texture in mine, super smooth and delicious. Desserts were small- one could eat them without fear of gaining weight. Bottom line- $120 with tip. [No alcohol] On the edge of interesting but pretty so what for the pricing. Definitely discourages me from trying it again for dinner.
The restaurant was in the middle of the hotel, but the food was delicious. We were unsure what to get, but our waiter had excellent recommendations. I like how they use local bread from a bakery in the area. The tables were close together so you felt almost a part of the other tables conversation, but overall the experience was excellent.
Great food, great service!
Food/drink was excellent. Service was very good. Noise level was quiet as the place was practically empty. The price for appetizer, dinner and drinks make it a “special event” place rather than an “every day dinner” place which is unfortunate as I would like to frequent this restaurant more often.
We were in Richmond for a wedding and stopped here for Sunday Brunch. Arriving at 145 when they stopped serving at 2 I was pleased that they made us feel welcome and not rushed. Our server was delightful and helpful going over the menu. I had the fried chicken sandwich- that was bananas and my husband had the burger - which was perfect. We shared the creative ants on a log dessert. I was really impressed with this little spot after a couple of misses in Richmond this weekend.
I met a friend for Sunday brunch recently at Maple and Pine. We experienced outstanding service from our waitress, Ashley. The food was more of mixed bag. My companion gave high marks to her eggs Benedict. I cannot not say the same for the vegetable hash. The dish contained roasted vegetables, but the carrots in the dish were not completely cooked, and difficult to cut. Also, the dish, for $15, seemed skimpy. It would have been nice if a basket of bread, muffins, etc., had accompanied the meal. There are many other places in town that offer a more generous brunch.
We loved our lunch!
The cauliflower soup with brioche croutons is wonderful!
Enjoyed everything about my birthday brunch at Maple & Pine! Amazing ambience and the food was as flavorful and delicious as it was beautifully plated. Appreciated the complimentary glass of champagne for my birthday too! Will definitely be back again soon!
Fun atmosphere with plenty of people watching. Intimate despite large open room. Our service was acceptable but not stellar. Our starter came after our entrees and one entree was room temperature to start. We inquired about the temperature and were told that was normal, though it was a pan fried dish one would expect to be hot. The manager witnessed the starter arriving late and apologized, which I appreciated. Overall good food and great atmosphere.
