Food was good but not spectacular - the setting is gorgeous - they need to step up service
to be considered a 5 star was a let down, your staff were not polished, empty glasses to remain on the table steak knife was given 3/4 threw the meal, I would except clean shirts ironed and not rolled up as if you were eating at a dinner. "not good" and would not recommend, don't mind spending the money but not worth it
Excellent meal, exceptional service, wonderful ambiance. Everything was truly exceptional. Highly recommend the pork and shrimp to start
Beautiful space but menu was limited, food wasn’t special and service, while cheerful and polite, was not very efficient. A bit expensive for quality, quantity of food.
While the ambiance was lovely the food left a lot to be desired. Portions were very small all the way around, especially given the high prices. The oysters were tiny and not very tasty even with the seasonings offered. The soup was OK but nothing to write home about nor was the pasta my friend ordered. I ordered the risotto and it was very salty so I ended up eating about 1/2 of the dish before pushing it away. We did enjoy a nice bottle of wine and conversation so not all was lost. Overall, it was a disappointment for us and our out-of-town guests.
The restaurant sets a very high standard in every respect.
Server was outstanding. Drinks are great! Crispy pork belly was amazing! And love the decor!
Great atmosphere, service was amazing, the cocktails were phenomenal, and the food was very good. We had a great time, thanks.
This was my first time at Maple & Pine. The service was attentive, food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect for a date night! My husband and I walked around a bit and the manager gave us a background history on Quirk hotel. He suggested taking a look at the courtyard and the different paintings around the hotel. We visited during restaurant week and we are so glad we did! Great restaurant for a special occasion. We will be back!
We went for fall restaurant week. The preset menu was very nice and the service was also good. The pumpkin crepe brûlée was just ok as the custard wasn’t very creamy but everything else was very good! My favorite was the cauliflower and potato soup.
We came for Richmond restaurant week three course special. Really nice choices on the menu. We really enjoyed our food. Very nice ambience and the noise level was reasonable so we could have a decent conversation. Our server Gaylynn was extremely attentive but not overbearing. Great food, great service, great ambience. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back.
We went for restaurant week and everything our group ate was delicious! I had a delectable cauliflower soup, short ribs, and pumpkin creme brûlée for dessert that was all spectacular! I’ll be back to try their regular menu at some point, too!
Went during Richmond Restaurant week for my birthday. They were offering a 3 course menu for a set price of $29.99. My boyfriend and I each ordered the 3 courses and a cocktail for $12 each. Somehow the bill was $104? There was a random "service charge" for $15. Considering that the service was basically non-existent (they didn't even acknowledge the fact that it was my birthday, even though I added that info on my reservation), this charge is absolute crap. Never going here again. Food was standard, nothing special.
I would recommend this to a friend but for select items on the menu
The banquette seating gave us a private, cozy feeling in an otherwise open and crowded room. The menu options and portion sizes for restaurant week were fabulous. Our server checked with us frequently, making sure we were pleased with our food and drink choices. She apologized a few times for the longer than usual time it took us to get our courses. I will definitely return.
The ambiance was lovely. Lauren the waitress was amazing!! She shared she is normally is the bartender, but this evening she was assisting with service. She was truly outstanding. Food was so delicious. The presentation was very nice and the flavor was top notch. My only suggestion would be the soup and pasta dish be a bit warmer in temperature. Cannot wait to return again to enjoy another delicious dining experience!
Awesome experience! We did the tasting menu and would highly recommend it.
Fabulous! Service great, friendly. Presentation of our entrees by
2 servers (one being our waiter) was very gracious & “choreographed,” as opposed to the “Who has the salmon?” Cocktails excellent. All great. Will absolutely return often.
Enjoyed the food and service. However, the restaurant is within the open lobby of the Quirk hotel so the parade of people and dogs walking through the restaurant is distracting and annoying. Despite the good food I would not return.
While our waiter was great, the kitchen was not. I’m allergic to red meat and requested that my waffle and chicken didn’t have the bacon caramel sauce. When the dish came, it had the sauce on it. No problem; I called the waiter over, he apologized and took the dish back. About 2 minutes later he returned with a chicken and waffles dish without the bacon sauce. I ate about 1/5 of the waffle and noticed something odd. I turned the waffle over and the cook had just scraped off the sauce off the waffle and turned it over so that the clean side was visible. There was even a few small bits of bacon still on the waffle. Fortunately, no emergency room visit but if I had eaten the whole waffle, it would have been bad.
At that point I just ate the chicken and paid the bill. Don’t think I’ll be visiting this place again
Birthday party for 14 was very well done. Personalize menus and dessert were a great touch. Would definitely recommend for a large party special occasion.
As usual, both food and service were excellent. Valet parking was most welcome if a bit pricey. One of our regular spots!
Definitely one of the best, if not the best meal we've had in the Richmond area. We will be going back.
My salad at Maple and Pine was fantastic, but there were a number of other factors that left much to be desired during my visit. The restaurant was practically empty, but it took over 30 minutes to get my salad.
In addition, no one was at valet when I arrived; therefore, I approached the front desk and they told me to wait for them to show up. Once they finally showed up after a number of minutes, I was given my tag and could take a seat with my lunch companion who was seated and waiting for me.
Once our lunch wrapped-up, I approached the front desk to have my car pulled around by valet. A young gentleman grabbed my key and proceeded to hang outside the hotel (where he could be viewed through the windows), messing around with two of his coworkers, for approximately 10 minutes before he finally left to grab my car.
Once he returned with my car, he told me that I couldn’t pay for valet through him and that I needed to do so at the front desk. The manager at the front desk informed me that valet is included with lunch.
Other than our server and the manager at the very end of my lunch experience, no one seemed to know what was going on or whom the responsible party was for the varying tasks. It was a frustrating experience.
Super cute location, incredibly friendly staff! Thanks for making my birthday brunch a delight!
Squid ink pasta dish is delish. Wonderful place to people watch.
Simply overrated. I had Ceasar salad. It was very salty and super weird since they put literally half of the cabbage in front of me with two pieces of fried crab. I wouldn't recommend for a great culinary experience BUT service is excellent, place is neat and you can have a drink and spend a pleasant night if food is not your primary thing. In my case, I am not ever going to this place again.
From the time that we arrived the service was top notch. We received a wonderful sample of meatballs in mushroom gravy from the Chef. Tony our server, was phenomenal his suggestions were outstanding and he exemplified politeness and a wonderful sense of humor. Highly recommend, the total ambiance was phenomenal from the moment I walked in. Thank you for such an amazing experience.
We went for lunch and the restaurant was pretty empty except for two other couples. The upholstery of the seats was very dirty and stained. We changed tables because the air conditioner was blowing very hard over that area of the restaurant and everyone was complaining. The general temperature of the room was too cold and all the waiters were saying they were freezing and they were unable to control the temperature of the restaurant. The seats in new table were also very dirty. I felt embarrassed with the group for having chosen the place and also very uncomfortable in the dirty Seats. Not many choices in the menu. Nothing special about the food. It was not terribly bad but not particularly good either. Way too expensive for the service and food they serve. I was looking for a higher end restaurant and was very disappointed. The place had no maintenance although the original decoration was modern and trendy. What I thought while I was eating was that if that is the way they take care of the cleaning of what you can see, I can’t imagine how dirty the kitchen must be... I would definitely not recommend.
Tried the tasting menu which was perfect. Blend of ingredients, flavors and textures hit the mark!
My husband and I had the pleasure of spending our Anniversary last Thursday at the Maple and Pine Restaurant. What a wonderful experience! We decided to get recommendations from our waiter for our Anniversary dinner. Tony was spot on with every choice that he recommended for our special dinner. We started with delicious oysters . Tony recommended a honey roasted carrot salad as the next course. It is hard to believe that carrots could make such an amazing dish! What a great chef to combine such flavors! As an entree, we both had duck. It also was delightful with strawberries and rhubarb and ginger spiced polenta. My husband is on a salt restricted diet. Most restaurants we ask not to add salt to his meal and being in the moment of our Anniversary , we forgot to ask to restrict salt. Our meal was perfectly seasoned ! Our experience at Maple and Pine was perfect from appetizer to dessert. We have to thank Tony and the chef for a fantastic Anniversary!
Gayle, Thank you so much for your detailed review, and for choosing us to help you celebrate your anniversary! I'm so glad to hear that Tony took fantastic care of you and that you enjoyed your meal with us. We look forward to you joining us again soon! Best, Laurin Trotman Food and Beverage Supervisor | Maple & Pine
Really liked most of the dishes we tried!
The dinner was overall just an okay experience. I didn't know anything about the restaurant before going. My boyfriend who works at a restaurant suggested it as a fancy dinner date. We made a reservation and when we arrived we were immediately seated. I was surprised the restaurant was in the hotel lobby. All night there were people walking through, right by our table, with other food, in workout clothes, with dogs, luggage and everything else you could think of. I was just taken aback by this. While we were seated immediately and water was brought over immediately, we did not see a server for at least 15 minutes. Apparently there was confusion as to who we belonged to, so no one ever came, except the SA who kept the water coming. We ordered a starter, meals and drinks all at the same time because we were pretty hungry. Starter was great, wine was lovely, but I wasn't too keen on my dinner option. I felt it was under seasoned. My companion's dish was quite tasty but I felt portions of his were under seasoned as well. Overall, it was not a disaster but I don't think I will ever go back or recommend anyone to eat there.
Great service, Michael was perfect. The food looks better than it actually was. Everything was over salted. Ambiance is great, food needs to be better.
The good parts of the experience first: the ambience is great. It is a beautiful space. It was for my daughter’s birthday so she was greeted with a glass of complimentary sparkling wine- that is a great detail! Our server Michael was very attentive giving us recommendations when asked on the menu and accommodating our vegetarian family member. The peach burrata salad was excellent. The rest of the food really missed the mark. Granted my family says I’m a food critic, but I think I’m a lover of good food and Richmond has some really good food right now. My halibut was decent and server stated the play in flavors between the green Apple and celery was a great compliment to the fish. But I had no apples. So fish and celery made me feel like I was on a Whole 30 diet not splurging on my daughter’s birthday celebration. And at $34 an entree definitely not a good value! The pork loin, calamari pasta entrees were also lackluster. Carrot appetizer not that appetizing either. All 3 desserts- strawberry rhubarb crumble, chocolate flourLess cake and the lemon blueberry dessert left this sweet tooth wanting something else. I’ll be back for cocktails and ambience but go somewhere else for a celebratory meal!
Wonderful restaurant with innovative menu, exceptional service and wine list! Housed in a beautiful historic building, curated art work decorates the space. Chef is on deck, checking plates before they are served. Staff is well trained and knowledgeable. Halibut was delicious and perfectly cooked!
Beautiful food and service. Wait staff very knowledgeable.
When we first arrived there was no hostess so we stood around waiting awkwardly for about 5 minutes. Our whole party had not arrived yet and so I had to ask should we continue standing
A lovely meal and warm , excellent service .
We will be back for those dumplings ! Excellent .
It was the Sunday night of July 4 th weekend and the restaurant was calm and quiet ......and romantic . I can imagine it could get noisy with the beautiful high ceilings but we were very fortunate and enjoyed ourselves very much !
Everything was fine but the upstairs bar did not have Bud light or Chardonay (really)
