Manzanita at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe
Watch: Executive Chef Mark Jeffers on The Today Show
Staff was amazing! And the food just as good
Perfect Valentines lunch, snowy blustery day, fun to look out at the small & big children playing in the snow!! Food (Rubin) was perfect as well as the Fish Tacos.
New chefs at Manzanita who are in from Puerto Rico. In all the years of coming here - this team is the best! Awesome menu right now. Can’t wait to return!
The hostess was not very helpful, but we managed to seat ourselves since what she was giving us some awkward wait suggestions even though we got there when numerous tables where ready.
The service was very good and the food was delicious, especially the meats.
Its always a pleasure to eat here. Our family dinner was a big hit. Every dish was perfect.
They make it a lovely experience.
Steaks were perfectly cooked, apps were delicious. Especially enjoyed the scallops and the Brussels family side.
Outrageous prices for bad food. Portion sizes are almost ridiculous. Our salad was like two pieces of greens with one beet. Not worth it at all!
Great food and great setting. The family style striped bass was incredible!
We have been going here for years. Always a treat. This year must be a new chef. Selection was very mediocre. While food was good, it was nothing to write home about and very expensive. Sure you are in the Ritz which makes it nice. But they are getting to the point of really a low value for the money. Sides are all additional making it really pricey.
Had a ham and egg type bucatini (super small for like $18). The crab toast was excellent however. Entrees, short rib was the best call. Well prepared. New York strip was well prepared and sauce (ask for extra sauce) but way oversized (normally that shouldn’t be a downside but why not balance out the steak with some veggies? And at $58? The chicken pot pie was disappointing (and $40, really)?
Wine list always excellent and sommelier excellent.
Also they famous chefs table and chefs counter was closed for MLK weekend. That was a huge disappointment since we have done that several years in a row on MLK weekend. It is almost like they don’t have enough staff in this environment.
Fabulous food and impeccable service. Worth the trek in the blizzard from Northstar Village! Great restaurant, very well run.
It was great for our anniversary. Thank you.
Nice meal during a vacation week. Even better if more vegetarian choices. Felt it was overpriced for the entrees especially the vegetarian pasta entree for 43 dollars. Duck entree mediocre. Apple dessert was great and salmon entree solid.
Decent for a hotel meal but should have been better for the 350 dollars we paid (one dessert one glass of wine and just three entrees).
Wish I could recall our server...he was awesome. All the people there are awesome! 4 stars for food bc the vegetable sides were GREASY! And coffee tasted like water. Entrees were great and fun and innovative.
This review is for LUNCH. First of all, my server was terrific, Traci. I got the fish tacos which in my opinion were greasy and the tortillas were meh. For dessert I got "chocolate and vanilla ice cream sundae" which was actually Neapolitan ice cream and I don't like strawberry ice cream plus they used canned (not real) whipped cream) so real deal breaker there. Plus, they need to work on their coffee game. Seriously. I have dined here many times over the years and this was a disappointment this time.
When we booked this we were shown a different menu. When we arrived the food options at the buffet were different than promised during our prior visit. The food tasted like it had been sitting out for sometime. The brownies were extremely hard. The food was over priced for the quality and selection. It was difficult to find a waiter who wanted to come to our table to take our drink order.
Always great. Great people and food.
Wonderful service and very good food. My son is Vegan and they were helpful at accommodating him but honestly I wish there were more Vegan options on the menu! (Please!) Really fantastic otherwise!
We have dinned at Manzanita many times. Although we appreciate the emphasis on local and the creativity of the dishes, we have noticed that the emphasis on creativity has resulted in less tasty food offerings. I had the organic chicken and my husband had the short ribs. The entrees were exceptional, but the sides were obscure and not paired well. Dont rely so heavily on being different, it detracts from the Ritz is known for; its excellence.
It was our 5 year anniversary and the evening was wonderful.
Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the appetizers.
Not worth $79/person!
Simply excellent in all aspects of the dining experience.
Scruffy, not great. A big disappointment. I usually love Ritz Carlton hotels. The building is beautiful but the restaurant Manzanita is an upmarket fast food affair
LOVE Manzanita! Wish they would
Beautifully prepared food excellent service
A bit pricey for the volume of food
Very unique food tastes
Do not like the mandatory valet though!!
Food was terrible.
Wonderful dining experience. Beautiful atmosphere, attentive service and excellent food.
We had a very memorable evening when we celebrated our anniversary there. The chef prepared dairy and gluten free special meals and even made special desert. All the staff were friendly and helpful.
The restaurant menu was a little disappointing and the prices were overly high
This eatery was fabulous. The staff was professional. The atmosphere was stylish and classy. Glad we made the trip.
This place has been our annual tradition for several years now, during a fall hiking trip to North Lake Tahoe....we've always loved it here, for sunsets, food, and service. Still great, but not quite up to the measure this year. Valet parking no longer included apparently (always was previously), and our server added the $15 charge to our bill automatically when I gave her the stub to be 'validated'. That was a surprise...Seems like you could comp the valet after spending several hundred on dinner. Also, our dishes were delicious, but none of the large apps or entrees were 'hot'...might seem like a small thing, but it was noticeable.
Summary: great time and good food, but probably not worth the bucks unfortunately. Will probably try someplace new next year....:(
Manzanita serves local CA cuisine that is well prepared with generous portions for the price and well cooked and executed options. The menus i wide enough to have some options without being exhaustive and the dinner rolls are well worth ordering. There is a solid bar menu and drink menu that offers lots of options. The staff was efficient and service was quick. Overall we would definitely go back if you are in the Truckee/Northstar area.
Food was fine and the service was good. On a Wednesday night when no one was there and they were relying on locals, seems ridiculous we had to pay a $15 valet charge when we never did before. It was a huge turn-off.
Made reservations for a party of eight and called 15 mins beforehand to add a person. They were very accommodating and the table was set for 9 when we arrived. The menus were different than what we had viewed online - both the dishes and the prices (which were increased). We ordered drinks only to discover that the prices on the drink menu didn’t match the prices on the website either. After a round of drinks, the chicken pot pie, with puff pastry ($40 each) sounded so appealing that 7 of us ordered it! We started with a family style roasted vegetable panzanella - which was delicious but at $60, somewhat overpriced. While the chicken pot pie was a disappointment, significantly lacking in the titled ingredient, the two of us that ordered the salmon were quite pleased. We elected to finish up with an off the menu dessert - shared s’mores skillet: a brownie on the bottom, marshmallows, ice cream and carmelized popcorn, yummy. All in all, not sure we’d return given the prices and the lack of chicken in the pot pies.
Too many out-of-control children. This is not McDonald's. Why are adults so inconsiderate? I don't find it cute when I have to yell at my dinner date over your screaming kids. Wake up! I cancelled a future reservation because of this.
"Mike" was outstanding as our waiter. He was knowledgeable about the menu, seemed genuinely interested in the things we were conversing about with him, provided excellent service and set a nice relaxed pace for our meal. There was also another gentleman whose name we did not get, but we think he was referred to as the "GM" - and he also provided great supplementary service (e.g. delivered our food out to us, checked with us a time or two, etc.).
The food and wine were excellently prepared and served, and delicious - well-befitting the luxury setting of the Manzanita restaurant.
We also want to make special mention of the 3 gentlemen who valet-parked our car: we brought one of our older, classic Mercedes Benz SL cars up with us, and the guys gave us a prominent private parking spot, and treated us to bottled water upon our pick-up of the car following lunch.
All-in-all this was a very high caliber luncheon experience, and we very much look forward to dining with them all again.
We were looking for a good place to eat near Kings Beach, and Manzanita more than fit the bill. The service was excellent, and the food and drinks were over-the-top beautiful and tasty. We will definitely return.
Sadly, not very good. The appetizers were not good at all. The “exceptional” burrata “flown in from Italy every day and picked up in San Francisco” was not creamy or fresh. The tomatoes tasted only of the smoke of the “smoky” vinaigrette. The salmon entree was good, but nothing exceptional. And the seafood with pasta was actually pasta with a tiny bit of seafood . And dont ask for bread for the table because it comes with 3 admittedly delicious spreads, but they charge you $8, and we didn’t want the spreads. Just a couple slices of French bread for our carpaccio (which was melt in your mouth and delicious)
Better to drive to truckee or Tahoe city for fine food. We were very disappointed-
