Manzanita at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe
Watch: Executive Chef Mark Jeffers on The Today Show
Food was fine and the service was good. On a Wednesday night when no one was there and they were relying on locals, seems ridiculous we had to pay a $15 valet charge when we never did before. It was a huge turn-off.
Made reservations for a party of eight and called 15 mins beforehand to add a person. They were very accommodating and the table was set for 9 when we arrived. The menus were different than what we had viewed online - both the dishes and the prices (which were increased). We ordered drinks only to discover that the prices on the drink menu didn’t match the prices on the website either. After a round of drinks, the chicken pot pie, with puff pastry ($40 each) sounded so appealing that 7 of us ordered it! We started with a family style roasted vegetable panzanella - which was delicious but at $60, somewhat overpriced. While the chicken pot pie was a disappointment, significantly lacking in the titled ingredient, the two of us that ordered the salmon were quite pleased. We elected to finish up with an off the menu dessert - shared s’mores skillet: a brownie on the bottom, marshmallows, ice cream and carmelized popcorn, yummy. All in all, not sure we’d return given the prices and the lack of chicken in the pot pies.
Too many out-of-control children. This is not McDonald's. Why are adults so inconsiderate? I don't find it cute when I have to yell at my dinner date over your screaming kids. Wake up! I cancelled a future reservation because of this.
"Mike" was outstanding as our waiter. He was knowledgeable about the menu, seemed genuinely interested in the things we were conversing about with him, provided excellent service and set a nice relaxed pace for our meal. There was also another gentleman whose name we did not get, but we think he was referred to as the "GM" - and he also provided great supplementary service (e.g. delivered our food out to us, checked with us a time or two, etc.).
The food and wine were excellently prepared and served, and delicious - well-befitting the luxury setting of the Manzanita restaurant.
We also want to make special mention of the 3 gentlemen who valet-parked our car: we brought one of our older, classic Mercedes Benz SL cars up with us, and the guys gave us a prominent private parking spot, and treated us to bottled water upon our pick-up of the car following lunch.
All-in-all this was a very high caliber luncheon experience, and we very much look forward to dining with them all again.
We were looking for a good place to eat near Kings Beach, and Manzanita more than fit the bill. The service was excellent, and the food and drinks were over-the-top beautiful and tasty. We will definitely return.
Sadly, not very good. The appetizers were not good at all. The “exceptional” burrata “flown in from Italy every day and picked up in San Francisco” was not creamy or fresh. The tomatoes tasted only of the smoke of the “smoky” vinaigrette. The salmon entree was good, but nothing exceptional. And the seafood with pasta was actually pasta with a tiny bit of seafood . And dont ask for bread for the table because it comes with 3 admittedly delicious spreads, but they charge you $8, and we didn’t want the spreads. Just a couple slices of French bread for our carpaccio (which was melt in your mouth and delicious)
Better to drive to truckee or Tahoe city for fine food. We were very disappointed-
It was very confusing when we checked in at 10:40am for our Sunday brunch reservations. We were told brunch didn’t start until 12:00 and they were just finishing serving the buffet. So from 11am - 12noon there was no breakfast service and we had to wait over an hour and that was with a confirmed reservation. The brunch was mediocre for the Ritz. We’ve had brunch at the Ritz in Half Moon Bay and they had one of the best brunches we’ve ever had. This Lake Tahoe location fell short on their variety of foods, no egg station for omelets, no eggs Benedict’s, only a small seafood selection, no oysters. We even had to make our own Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s. We stayed at a hotel that offered complimentary breakfast and I think we would have been better off eating there or at one of the casinos. Luckily we had a fabulous, and one of the best dinners we’ve had the night before at the Edgewood Restaurant in Tahoe. It was my birthday and at least the Edgewood gave us an unforgettable meal.
The Ritz Carlton Tahoe is an hour drive from South shore and in my opinion, not worth the drive. The restaurant was not busy and I know why. Definitely not Ritz Carlton standards and we’ve been to many in the U.S.A, Europe and Asia.
The ambiance of the Manzanita was delightful and very well done. The service was 3-4 star. One of us had the duck and the other had the filet mignon. The filets were very good, but the duck was horrible. So tough that my husband could not even cut the duck....let alone chew it. The duck was presented in two big hunks of meat....not sliced. The duck was $49.00 so you would expect it to be delicious. We had to ask to have the meal compensated.....which they did. But we felt it should have been automatic. We both enjoyed my meal of the filet mignon.
This is a beautiful restaurant within a gorgeous hotel. Everything was first class, from the valets to the hostess to our waiter and then the food. The food was almost as exceptional as our waiter. The chef came out with warm chocolate chip cookies and was very nice. Perfect experience.
had a great meal. highly recommend the family style lamb dish for 2 people. Really excellent.
Liked this restaurant very much! Food was great! Wonderful flavors and care for what they are putting out. Kids food was not that great- but it’s kids food. Service was on point. Happy we tried it!
Great atmosphere and delicious food! You won’t be disappointed.
My wife, son and I went to Manzanita to celebrate "Wife Appreciation Day", food, service and ambience was excellent!
Good food, outstanding service. Very good bar service and drinks. Would recommend it to friends and family
Bridgett was kind and wonderful. Amazing vegetarian meal! My husband so enjoyed his birthday. Thank you!
We have been a regular customer since the Ritz opened. Took friends there for special occasion this weekend. Menu has recently changed and no one was happy with their entre, even salad was not great. Ritz has always excelled at service but our wait person was a real amateur. No one ever appeared at our table to serve our wine-self service all the way. Ritz is off our list now. Too bad. Hope they get the message.
Good food, good service, romantic atmosphere. Couldn't have asked for much more :)
Great brunch! The views of the mountains are amazing and the food was delicious!
We splurged for the brunch buffet to celebrate our daughter's birthday over Labor Day Weekend. Excellent food, fun and attentive service and endless mimosas! Every item was expertly executed.
This was our third time and it was not a charm. Our server was excellent but the food failed to wow us for the pricepoint. Unfortunately there was just no taste to any of the dishes. Sadly we will not be going back anytime soon.
3 star experience at 5 star prices. The food was displayed very nicely. Appetizer cheese plate was tasty and enough for two people. The cioppino dish for two was a small amount of seafood and the clams and mussels were not completely opened; the small lobster tails were difficult to get out of the shell. The sauce was flavorful, but salty. The cost was $115.00. All wines were served in the same generic shaped glass (for whites and all reds). Complimentary dessert for our anniversary was a nice touch. Valet parking was $15 with validation.
The night we arrived, a new menu was being tried. Chicken pot pie was $42! I was surprised by the price. Manzanita is all about fine dining, but this was really off-putting.
My husband and I have eaten at Manzanita several times; some experiences have been great but two recent experiences were poor. One was one when the restaurant was managing a wedding. Our food was dry and didn’t seem freshly prepared.
Last week, with the debut of the new menu, the service was terrible. The waitress was grumpy and put out. We waited a long time for cocktails. We asked for bread and it didn’t come. I spoke to a waiter and he returned with bread only to spill melted butter on my blouse. He clearly noticed but didn’t apologize or offer to help. I let it go.
The Manzanita should be exceptional. It’s a beautifully appointed restaurant in a celebratory location. I was sad to be so disappointed.
Great meal. However, did not like that I had to pay for the bread. I have been to numerous restaurants across the country and have not had to pay for the bread. Great meal though.
My girlfriends and I eat lunch every year here when they join me in Tahoe. We've always enjoyed Manzanita for lunch. This time the lunch was very disappointing and we will not be returning next year. The bloody Mary's were especially bad. And the Poke was really not interesting and bland.
Seafood is spoilt and the pizza is over cooked.
Excellent restaurant but you will pay more since you are in a captive hotel
1st night-food was fantastic. 2nd night, food was not quite as good. Chicken dish-was terribly boring- but the potatoes leek bread is fantastic & consistent.
We stayed at the Ritz and enjoyed dinners and breakfast in the Manzanita Dining. The food prep and presentation was exceptional, really outstanding job by the chefs. Service was excellent and we would highly recommend this Ritz dining choice in the future. How good....every main dish and side was perfection. Interesting, tasty, savory, and a little adventuresome without going too far off into the culinary wildlands. Just the right balance of very good upscale dining. Thank you!
Excellent as usual. Food and service both outstanding. Ask for Marius to be your server, he's the best.
Excellent dinner!! Consistent food and drink, every time!!
Bland food/slow service/high prices!
We have always enjoyed eating here, but this time was a huge let down.
Dry elk meatballs, boring and bland little gem salad, fishy Alaskan halibut with a charred onion "crust" that was overpowering and a very small filet steak that was ordered medium rare and came out well done. Server was so slow, everything took forever, he never checked on our food after being served, then added 20% tip since there were 8 people (3 adults/5 kids) The best food on the table was the kid's chicken fingers and french fries. Prices typical Ritz, I don't mind paying when you get their experience. What a bummer, we used to tell people that this was a hidden gem near Truckee, not no more.
Great dining experience! Food, Service.... top notch quality all around.
Beautiful place, Excellent food and great service!
Wonderful food, wine and service as is expected at the Ritz Carlton. Enjoyed a wonderful evening...
Just plain wonderful every time we eat here.
The venue and quality of the food did not justify the cost.
Great experience. The food was fantastic, wonderful wine list, the staff were very attentive & sincerely nice, and my husband and I had a great experience for our 15th anniversary. Resort type prices, but worth it since the experience quality is so high. Don't forget to walk around the Ritz after/before dinner and enjoy all the amazing artwork around the hotel.
We sat at the chefs table to celebrate my wife's birthday. All aspects of the meal were outstanding! The steaks were cooked perfectly, the wine list was first rate, and our server Marias made us feel exceptional! Great evening we won't forget.
not as good as usual. Kitchen seemed a bit off, entree's took a LOOONNGG time to get to the table. Food was good, not great. Not as good as usual for some reason.
Excellent food and service. Beautiful alpine setting with wonderful outdoor seating options. Food choices provided something for everyone and was well prepared. Service was friendly and courteous. The one drawback is the restaurant is very expensive.
