Manuel's Bread Cafe Ratings and Reviews
The food here is pricey, but really great and worth the cost! Usually the service is superior, but our last time we had probably the most inept server we've ever had at ANY upscale restaurant. He had trouble remembering our order, apparently didn't fire the order until way too late and was just generally bad. Two hours is much too long to spend on a simple meal!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening out at Manuel's. We celebrated our One Year Anniversary and the service and good were excellent. Our fabulous server was April and she was more than knowledgeable, friendly, and had an impressive pace. It's definitely a place we will return to, as well as, recommend to all of our friends and family.
I came to Manuel's for my 22nd Birthday brunch and was so pleased with the whole day! The service was great considering there was 18 of us at the table. I was able to enjoy time with my closest friends and family and not worry about the service or ambiance lacking. It truly was the perfect spot to gather and eat wonderful food and enjoy a beautiful part of Augusta! Would definitely recommend!
Manuel's is one of my favorites because it's such a quaint cafe with local dishes/ingredients. I love the cheese plates and, of course, the deserts. Plus the neighborhood is beautiful; visitors to Augusta are always surprised to see such a beautiful community along the river. This visit the food was very much up to par; I had the stuffed flounder special, one guest had duck, and one had a steak. All were excellent, although I would I would have preferred a filet as the steak. Good wine list, excellent salads, a great place for a quiet dinner.
Service was sketchy.
We asked specifically about the daily special, Ahi Tuna Eggs Benedict. We have ordered this special before. The first time it was a tuna steak, the second time tuna patty. The patty wasn't as good. We asked if it was steak or patty this time. We were assured it was a tuna steak. When it arrived, of course, it was the patty. Too much trouble to send it back but a huge disappointment.
We ordered Bloody Marys, they weren't very good. When the check arrived we realized they were made with wine, not vodka. The waiter should have pointed that out. We didn't order Wine Bloody Marys, we order Bloody Marys.
We've been here several times for brunch, this visit aside, it has always been a pleasure.
Manuel's has become our go-to restaurant for all special occasions as well as for a quiet Sunday evening meal. The wine selection is extensive; the staff are especially knowledgeable and pleasant; and the setting is as close to Europe as we are going to get in Augusta/North Augusta. Many menu items are grown/raised at the local organic farm. We love Manuel's!
Went here for a special occasion, white coat ceremony at medical college, for my daughter. The community is gorgeous and nice to walk around. The meal was good, though quite expensive for what it was. Bill for six people, with dinner and a glass of wine and one appetizer for the table was 380, to me that's a bit pricey, particularly for the decent but not spectacular food.
I have been to Manuels a number of times and have always had stellar service with the exception of this last time. The guy who waited on us was so scatterbrained and all over the place. He was reading the lunch features from his book, no problem, but he left one out.. my mom and I had to listen another server explain it at a different table. I can see that happening if you memorized them.. not reading verbatim from a paper. I also asked him for something to accompany my lunch and he scoffed as he walked away. Definitely won't keep me from going back as this is my favorite place in augusta and we live in the neighborhood but if I see him again, I will ask for another server.
Group of friends meeting for dessert and conversation. A great selection of desserts. The server was slow to respond. We started with the Poutine, ordered two for the table to share. It was really tasty and great to share. We told the server we just wanted to order dessert. She took our drink orders, coffees and tea and when she brought the regular coffees they were not hot, twice she was asked to refill, and first time they were still cold. The desserts were all very good and large portions. My biggest criticism was the time she took to take and deliver our orders, being only dessert it should not have taken 30 minutes for 8 desserts.
This was our first time at this restaurant and we had mixed responses. While we all enjoyed our first course of salads and evening specials ( chilled shrimp and a salmon salad), the entrees were a different story. The first problem was running out of an evening special, as well as a regular menu entree item. What we did receive was good, but not fantastic. The tenderloin was chewy, which is a definite no-no, although it was properly cooked in regards to temperature. The chicken piccata was much drier than anticipated, but had decent flavor. More of the lemon caper butter sauce would have helped. The final entree was an evening seafood/stuffed shrimp pasta special, which received a glowing report. The desserts were mixed too. The grasshopper cake was delicious, but the chantilly berry cake was very dense. We are definitely willing to go back and see if maybe it was just an off night.
I heard great things about the Sunday brunch so I gave it a try and was highly disappointed. I ordered the shrimp and grits and it came out with an absurd amount of garlic butter floating (probably a whole stick of butter on my one serving) on top and around it. Our waiter had to be reminded of our orders at least twice per round (drinks, food, coffee). I won't be returning.
Manuels has a great atmosphere. It is located in a beautiful neighborhood bordering the Savannah River. They offer a varied selection of entrees accompanied by locally grown vegetables and an impressive dessert selection. The only negative in my opinion is the price. While the food was good it did not warrant the cost. We will definitely go back but probably for coffee and dessert.
I've eaten at Manuel's several times and the food has always been good to excellent. On this occasion several friends and I met for lunch and three of us ordered the salmon cake sandwich which is supposed to be one of their signature dishes. All three of us were very disappointed. The salmon cake was mostly filler and mushy inside. It had an off taste, too. On the other hand, the fries were delicious. Our other friends ordered the grilled salmon salad and the ruben sandwich, both of which they thought were very good.
Our waitress was attentive and our outdoor table was in the shade and comfortable even on the hot day. I will definitely go back but I won't order the salmon cake again.
Very good as always. I tried the special street corn, but really didn't match well with what I thought it was. It was Gouda, onions, and roasted peppers when I for sure thought it would be pico de gallo. I would have like the corn cut up a bit and some type of Mexican sauce to stick with the authenticity of street corn. However, the three cheese plate and flounder were excellent as always. Excellent customer service. My husband and I love their customer service!
