Mantee Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Fount this gem through a friend. The food is absolutely delicious and I love that it is a family owned restaurant. I’ve been there late and the owner on several locations has come out to greet each table.
This place is perfect for two or larger group if you give advanced notice on reservation.
The food and restaurant itself was nice but our service was mediocre. I had to ask our waiter 3x for lemon for my water when everyone else in the restaurant had lemon come with their water. I then asked another waiter for some lemon and he also never brought me any lemon. I asked a third waiter who happened to be new for some lemon and he brought me a bowl of lemon wedges within a minute. Our initial waiter didn't seem that busy but he only came by a couple of times. We had other waiters who came by to ask us about our meals and make sure we had everything we needed. If it wasnt for the other waiters I don't think I would want to return even though the food was good. We even had to ask for our check a couple of times.
Wonderful Gem! Mediterranean is the theme (which could mean anything these days) but actually it’s Armenian, with a varied menu of hot and cold appetizers as well as the usual kebab meals.
Last time I checked, Armenia doesn’t border the sea whose food this restaurant represents; this is due to the rich cultural history of the Armenian diaspora from Asia Minor and the eastern Mediterranean cuisine that they brought with them.
We are now the fortunate beneficiaries. Salut!
What an absolutely charming place. You need to enter from the alley. The front door is rather deceiving. The garden has little lights, great service and a delightful menu. We shared a fabulous salad, yogurt marinate lamb chops and hummus with pine nuts. First time trying a white wine from Lebanon (delicious). Can't wait to go again.
What would have been an hour long dinner turned into 2 hours due to not being served. We ordered appetizers then our waiter took our menus away and when asked for another one he never came back. We then were charged the expensive glass of wine because the waiter didn't write down the order all together so chose to give us that. The food is great and the bus boys should be the waiters and paid more as they were so nice and willing to help as much as they could.
Mantee Cafe is a neighborhood gem! I've brought many friends here who never heard of it and they fall in love with this restaurant, too. It's one of those, (sadly), rare privately owned restaurants that's authentic, delicious, relaxing, real, casual, NOT trendy, healthy, friendly and wonderful. Can't say enough great things about this place!
Delicious Armenian and Middle Eastern food, some of which I'd never heard of (being neither Armenian or Middle Eastern, not surprising). The Veggie Mantee combines crunchy pasta, spinach, garlic, and the richest yogurt imaginable...amazing comfort food. The shredded wheat/candy floss dessert is wonderful and enough for four.
I ADORE this restaurant. Our family has been going here regularly for years (long before they had their liquor license) and each and every time the food, the service and the ambience is impeccable! Everyone we take, friends, business associates, ladies nights, LOVES this little gem! And Jake, when there, is the very best!!
We sat inside - only a few tables to pick from and very small/intimate. But they have a huge outdoor patio in the back and on a nice evening it is the perfect place to sit! Parking is a bit tough - they have a few free spots in the back, but there's free street parking around the corner. No valet - which is nice in this part of town to not have to pay extra for that.
We had never been there before so asked the server for some recommendations:
Fattoush Salad - this is not something I would have selected for myself without a reco as I'm not a fan of mint. HOWEVER - this reco was fabulous!! The mint flavor was extremely subtle and did not overpower the rest of the dish. It was fantastic.
Spicy Potato - tiny cubed crispy perfectly seasoned potatoes. Delicious. Not really spicy at all, just a tiny kick.
Queen's Delight Appetizer - OMG one of the best appetizers I have ever eaten - hand's down! Diced filet mignon covered in warm cherries. Again, not something I would have ever selected for myself, as I'm not a fan of fruit and meat combo, but the server recommended it and I'm so glad he did. The flavors were incredible - highly recommend!! One thing to note - the cherries are NOT pitted - so watch out when you bite down.
Lamb Chops - perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. 4 large lamb chops plus sides included in the meal. One of the more expensive mains, but COMPLETELY worth it!
This restaurant is a hidden gem in Studio City! I will most definitely be back.
We were treating our niece to lunch for special recognition that she achieved at work. It was she who recommended Mantee as we wanted a place close to where she lived for her convenience. The food was excellent, service prompt and efficient, and the atmosphere of a covered patio suited us perfectly for lunch. With my niece and wife being of Armenian descent, it was their liking the food that confirmed it's authenticity of quality. I enjoyed my meal as well. Would return to, as well as refer, Mantee.
Ambiance of place was old European and very cool. Food was delicious. However service was somewhat disjointed as multiple waiters were involved. Also, One waiter advised a particular dish was not available for the evening, and afterwards we saw it brought to our neighboring guests at table next to us. Inside room was extremely loud as table of six next to us were talking and laughing loudly. We could not have a conversation across our table.
