Mannino's Italian Bistro - Oceanfront
Waitress was not helpful. Appeared annoyed
From cocktails to wine recommendations to appetizers through to dessert the food was amazing and the service fantastic. We loved our evening!
I was hesitant since it is in a tourist trap area, but I am glad we went. The food was good, served really hot and done well. The French onion soup was good as was the she crab soup. Our server was very good. The ambience could be better but not bad. The prices were not inflated either. It's a definite "Go!"
This place was amazing! Great Italian food!
This is probably our third time visiting Mannino's, the second time at the oceanfront location. The service was amazing as always. I ordered the special which was lobster ravioli a la vodka. It was delicious and though pricey, there was a very generous amount of lobster in my dish. I also ordered a cup of the crab soup which is always spot on. My wife ordered the gnocchi margherita which she said was okay but she thought the flavor was a little bland. She may have preferred it with a vodka sauce instead but that was a $5 up charge. While her meal was a little disappointing it would not prevent us from returning to Mannino's.
Food was absolutely delicious! You gotta try...chicken parm was outstanding!
Overall our experience at Mannino's was good. It is not a fancy restaurant and could use a reno but the service and food were excellent.
This quiet yet lively restaurant had delicious she crab soup, thick with fresh crab so a cup was satisfying. The tortellini rustica was in a nicely seasoned tomato cream sauce. The waitress recommended a sangiovese that was a perfect t complement.
Food tasted like ravioli from the can
The food was amazing. We had the crab soup, fried mozzarella, lasagna and shrimp fra diavolo. Thanks for your suggestions, Sharon!
Casual dining with amazing food. What a gem!
Best she crab soup EVER!!! Server was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu. Everyone was very pleased with their meal. We will definitely be returning.
Wife’s birthday and she loves Italian, so mannino’s it was. Have always gone to the one on Princess Anne and have had great experiences, but wanted to try out the one at ocean front this time. The atmosphere was casual, noise level was fairly quiet, our waitress was very nice, the place was not busy at all but we noticed a large group of 25 or so in the back, no big deal we thought. Well, we thought wrong. We sat there over an hour waiting on our food. The table of 3 behind us did as well. Turns out they were so focused in on the large group in the back that they totally neglected the smaller tables in the restaurant. Manager ended up coming to our table to apologize and we received a 10% discount on our meal, which we thought was acceptable. Moral is; do not hold the rest of the customers hostage while you tend to the larger group. We will stick to the Mannino’s on Princess Anne from here on.
Eat there every time I am in Virginia Beach. Great food and great service.
This is not an ocean front restaurant.
Had dinner at Manninos on 3/16. Everything was superb, even on a very busy Shamrock Marathon weekend. I never write reviews, but had to do so on this occasion. Nice job!
Casual setting with more "upscale" prices. We were seating at a booth by a window and the chipping paint was obvious (including a chunk of plaster just sitting in the window sill). There could be better seats, but we didn't get far into the restaurant.
Our introduction for not having been here before was to drop the regular menus down, give us one copy of the "special" race weekend menu with no further explanation, and put the single drink menu down without saying anything about it at all. We got checked on frequently at first, but it felt awkward as we were trying to share one copy of the special menu, look through a large regular menu, and didn't even realize the drink menu was there. We felt rushed to order.
Service was OK but not exceptional. They were busy, but not overly so. The food was OK. Portions were large, but seemed to lack seasoning. Our calimari appetizer was enough to feed three of us with leftovers but required seasoning and didn't really pair well with the marinara on the side which seemed a bit sweet.
Our meals themselves were piled high. I can recommend the vitello (veal) portabello stack, as long as you ask them to not smother it with so much mozarella. It's hard to tell which is the veal and which is the porrobello without tasting them, but they were juicy and flavorful. Again, once removed from the abundance of mozarella smothering them. The mozarella itself was really good, there was just way too much.
I did have the Italian lemon drop martini as well. I found it to be too sweet and should have asked the splash of sprite be a splash of seltzer instead, but I also find most mixed drinks too sweet. Don't get this one thinking it will have a lemony bite to it. It's not bad, just not what I was hoping for.
Overall I expected a little more from the restaurant, but I was disappointed either. I would eat here again.
This restaurant has the best Italian food! They have an award-winning SHE-CRAB Soup, which is truly amazing!!! Service, atmosphere, everything is well done!! They are very accommodating to larger groups as well.
Whenever we visit Virginia Beach, Mannino’s is our 1st choice for dinner!!
My party of 5 all loved their food, and Ross was a wonderful waiter.
Food was excellent. My husband has a latex allergy and they were very accommodating!
It was the highlight of Restaurant Week. The food was excellent. Our server, Tyler, was a delight. We loved it!
Went during restaurant week, the food was delicious and service was great. I highly recommend this restaurant anytime.
We love the she-Crab soup, but it was not as warm as it should have been. Probably should have sent it back. However, we were in a large crowd, so maybe it was trying to serve that many at once? And that's probably why the noise level seemed high- because of our group!
Still, we will keep coming back. Great waiter!
They were not busy when we arrived but the service was slow. Took forever to get food and even desert. We had to ask for drink refills as our waiter was not very attentive.
Been going to Manino's for 10 years at least. This was by far the most delicious meal I ever had in those years. The soup was amazing as always, the oyster appetizer was incredible & the antipasto plate was perfect. Great service as always.
I am not sure I would recommend Mannios. We went on Valentines Day and they had problems with our open table reservation. They also had problems with the kitchen. It took over 2 hours for our food to come out. The food was good but we were eating it at 10:00pm. The waitress was quite apologetic.
The food was really good, the service was absolutely terrible.
Hey I would recommend this restaurant to all of my friends. The customer service was outstanding and the wait staff was fully attentive to each of us dining at the establishment. It is also good to be greeted and seated during a reservation. Overall outstanding!
Excellent food and service. Crab soup is best i have ever had.
First visit to the Oceanfront location did not disappoint. Same great food and friendly staff.
Food was overpriced and average tasting. Nothing exceptional. Was our Anniversary dinner and we were seated within elbow distance from other folks. Not impressed.
I made my reservation online thru 'open table" for 5:30 Valentines Day. Upon arrival I was told, in no uncertain terms, that there was only one reservation for that time slot and it wasn't me. The restaurant was near empty when we arrived and the hostess finally, and I believe reluctantly, seated us. Our waitress was super. The food was not. The penne pasta was bland with a sauce that was akin to tomato sauce. The fried oysters was dripping in grease. The broccoli was unlike any I had ever eaten (did not eat). The salad dressing on my salad was near tasteless. We ordered White Zinfandel, I believe it was house wine, and it was excellent (the highlight of the night). Overall it was an extremely poor dining experience. I guess it was especially disappointing because I had eaten at the Portsmouth Mannino's and it was delightful. Others have told me that the Virginia Beach Mannino's couldn't compare to the Portsmouth Mannino's. Unfortunately, they are permanently closed.
Very good meal and service. Enjoyed my 60th birthday dinner with my family. Would recommend to others
I didn't expect such great food. I would definitely go back again.
Great food and service. A bit pricey.
Manninos is my favorite place to celebrate special occasions with my family and friends. The food, service and wine list is wonderful.
My family and I had a wonderful meal on Dec 30, 2018. We've been to Mannino's at the oceanfront several times. As usual the she-crab soup was fabulous - the best we've ever tasted. The veal dishes and ravioli that we had were great. And Katie was a fantastic waitress! We'll definitely go back for more!
This is a restaurant we will definitely dine at again and again! We took our 6 year old to a nice dinner before seeing the Christmas lights and this was a hit for us and him! He loved the pasta and we loved our dishes as well. She Crab soup was amazing! Food was authentic, service was great and the restaurant felt warm and inviting. Hubby and I plan on going back for a date night soon!
We enjoyed the authentic Italian cuisine. Our waitress recommended the crab soup which was excellent. It had a rich flavor with ample crab. We tried the Lobster Ravioli, Manicotti, 4 Cheese Ravioli, and Fettuccini Alfredo. All were exceptional, the Alfredo includes a sun-dried tomato that gives it a noticeable tomato flavor, so be sure to request without if you do not enjoy tomato. This was our first time and we will go again.
I love this restaurant. Everything I have ever had has been delicious. I have eaten at all three locations, sorry that the Portsmouth one is gone. Food and service are always excellent. My favorite Italian restaurant anywhere.
