Manhattan Steak House Ratings and Reviews
Needs Improvement: The rib eye steak was average to moderately good. Bread selection is poor. Appetizers were average. Service was slow, polite, but slow and the overall experience was mistake ridden. Not real bad, just not up to their usual standards. The owner is never there anymore and the place is let to run itself.
Last night in Bonita Springs and we wanted to try a steakhouse. We considered the Capital Grill and Ruths Chris, but Manhattan was closer. The food was just average, although the service was very good. Not a real extensive menu to choose from. I would probably give them a second chance.
Third visit to Manhattan. 5:30 PM Saturday night, Place was empty. By time our meal ended 3 other tables occupied.
Service was good although somewhat prolonged wait between courses. I had octopus appetizer which was well prepared with a balsamic dressing. My wife had Caprese Salad in which the tomatoes were ordinary, and the mozerella was very average.
My New York Strip was flavorful but uneven, Some medium rare as ordered, but mostly medium.( The steak is served on a very hot porcelain dish an is sliced before being presented on this dish, apparently continuing to cook).
My wife had the lobster tail which was broiled and she was disappointed, as it was overdone.
Best course was an apple strudel dessert.
I did have an excellent Pinot Noir with dinner.
Overall, disappointing. Although prices are certainly moderate compared to other Steak and Seafood places in the area, as the saying goes, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
Unacceptably poor quality steaks. Rib-eyes ordered by 4 of 7 diners were not edible. Very tough. Difficult cutting them with a steak knife. Wait staff and manager agreed and did not charge for those steaks which was the right thing to do. Too many other good steak options in the area to risk this poor quality occurrence.
The food is always fantastic. The service in the past had not been good but this time it was better. The waiter stopped several times after dinner was served to see if we needed anything. Service was prompt.
The noise level is very high so I would not recommend it for a quiet evening out.
This was my first time back this year since they reopened for the season. My lamb chops were ok nit were over cooked instead of medium. My sister in law has a filet that was almost raw instead of medium. The waiter did not ask how the food was until we were done. Overall very disappointed compared to last year.
When we arrived to the restaurant there were about 5-6 cars in the parking lot, which should have been our first clue that it wasn't as great as advertised. The menu is ala carte which is fine, but for the price, I expected the food to be plated better. Then when we ordered our steak it was charred on the outside and rare on the inside and we ordered it medium. After we told our server that it wasn't medium, he argued with us that it was. I responded by telling him that it was cold and red on the inside which meant it was rare. Finally, he brought it back to the kitchen to be cooked a little longer and they overcooked it. When he brought it back the waiter remarked that it indeed was not medium and admitted that he must have misread how we wanted it cooked. No discount was ever offered for the inconvenience. Then we were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary, which is a big deal. I put it on the reservation, and not one time did they recognize it or do anything to make it special. All in all, it was the most expensive meal we have ever purchased, with tip it was almost 150 bucks, and it was one of the worst meals we ever had! I would not recommend it. Definitely not worth the price of the meal. The place it self was also in need of some TLC. Dust on the wall fixtures, tablecloths not ironed, and stuff like that.
We have been there several times, but this time, we were quite underwhelmed. Service was very slow, and erratic, the steak was good, but it did not look like the weight charged, no it had a lot of gristle. The shifting waiters were indifferent when I commented. The pie looked like it just came from public. We will probably go once more, but?
Manhattan Steak House is by far the best steakhouse in our area (including the Capital Grill)! Their prices are reasonable and the food is fantastic. The service was excellent and it's definitely become our favorite restaurant. We couldn't recommend it more highly.
Grilled octopus was a bit salty and not the texture you would expect of "grilled" octopus. While the steak was good, the porterhouse for 4 ($150) was definitely NOT 80 ounces as advertised. The 2 porterhouses we received only provided about 5 small slices each for 4 people. Service was decent and the mushrooms were wonderful.
While the steaks have always been excellent in the past, the friendliness of the waiters left a lot to be desired. However this time the waiters were greatly improved and even joked with us. Unchanged better than all the times before. As usual the steaks are the best in the area compared with other steak houses.
Our server basically ignored us except for his interest in pouring wine. We finally had to put the cork in the bottle to prevent him from pouring out the whole contents of the bottle and requiring us to order another bottle. When he would appear, he was surly and only seemed to get away from us. My veal chop was not very tender and was difficult to cut.
We have been to this restaurant numerous times and this was our only bad experience.
After reading reviews--which are either amazing or terrible, there is no in between--we decided to give Manhattan a try. It's hard to find, but definitely worth it. It's on the backside of the neighboring plaza where Tokyo Bay is, we had to use the birds-eye-view feature of our maps app to locate it. But once inside, we were quickly seated. It's a small restaurant--maybe 15-20 tables and a separate banquet room. The lighting is dim (like a steakhouse should be), but it is noisy due to tables being close together. If you're seated next to a table with a loud talker, be prepared to try to tune them out.
Our service was great--and poor service is the biggest complaint in bad reviews for this place, so we luckily avoided that. And our food came exceptionally fast. My husband--a midwesterner who knows steak--ordered the Strip, rare, and said it was possibly the best steak he's ever had. It had a perfect char on it, and it was absolutely amazing. I had the tuna steak, rare, which came on a bed of tomatoes and lettuce with capers, and I would have licked the plate if it wouldn't have embarrassed my husband. It was incredible. We were already talking about returning before our dinner was even over, and also about how we were so bummed out that it took so long for us to try this place--we had so many missed opportunities of taking house guests to this place for amazing steaks.
In short, ignore the bad reviews, put the effort into finding this place, and give it a try.
