Manhattan Steak and Seafood is a classic New York steak and seafood restaurant located in the heart of California. This restaurant brings all the classic elements of a New York steakhouse and drops them onto the west coast. The interior of the restaurant is elegant and refined, with white tablecloths and wine glasses at every table. Manhattan is more than just a restaurant, it is also a live music venue, and guests can find jazz and swing bands here on the weekends covering the likes of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.
Manhattan's menu features classic American fare. Appetizers include steak frittes, ahi tuna tartare, calamari fritti, oysters on the half shell, pan seared lobster cakes, chilled tiger shrimp and butternut squash ravioli. As for entrées, diners will find dishes such as prime New York steak oscar, filet mignon, rack of elk, Colorado rack of lamb, lobster tail and Chilean sea bass.
This is an interesting restaurant. Not a chain, which is nice. The staff was very friendly and it is in a rather quiet spot in Orange. We went on a Tuesday for a business/friends dinner and it was ideal on a quiet night. It's old school and not for 20 somethings-which worked for us. The food was good to excellent. Great side dishes and steaks were cooked properly. It was hard to judge the ambiance, but it was slightly unnerving to sit in a Ray Donovan set (I live in NYC) which I guess is "welcome to California old school." Go for the excellent steaks and sides-not to propose to that 27 year-old bikini model that your grown kids hate.
Another great experience! Our waiter, Jesus, was fabulous. The meal began with an amuse-bouche which was a fried oyster in the shell. Excellent.
My table had the surf and turf; the filet mignon was prepared perfectly and the lobster tail was quite substantial. The Bison Filet; also cooked to perfection and Jesus recommended a great red wine by the glass to accompany the bison.
The atmosphere in the dining room is quiet, but not stuffy. The bar is tastefully decorated and a great place to start or finish your evening.
The unique menu, finely crafted cocktails, and outstanding service make Manhattan Steak and Seafood a truly memorable dining experience.
My friends frequent the bar often but decided that with 2 birthdays we should celebrate with dinner. Made reservations last minute! The manager of the evening was also our waiter and he allowed us to celebrate in the wine cellar... Such a treat- and all to ourselves! Loved it, food excellent as always, service impeccable! Love you guys! Thank you, see you soon!
Friends recommended ambiance and great music. Upon arrival found no music and although the service was excellent my husbands $60 steak was too rare and cold. Bring music back
we came to celebrate my birthday and was looking forward to their brunch buffet but they no longer have the buffet. it's only for certain holidays now. anyhow, we still had a great time as their a la carte menu is still very good. loved the service!
The ambience was very romantic, great place for a romantic night out.
Very good wine list at reasonable prices.
Service wasn't bad just spotty.
Our server had only be at this job for 4 months so he'll get better.
Food was good and proper portions.
WE were there for a special occasion (
The food was outstanding and served in a timely manner!
Our waiter needed more training, but he did his best. The served our appetizers didn't know the type of oysters...again lack of training. The food was good, atmosphere very nice, but pricey. We will not return.
5-Stars.
Ordered Steak Tartare, Chilean Sea Bass, Beef Wellington and the sampler dessert. Each course was perfectly cooked, extraordinarily delicious, bursting with with well thought-out and timed flavors, and served perfectly in both presentation and temperature.
The bar is open but the live "Sinatra/Martin" music is on hold till fall/winter. My wife and I will definitely return for the restaurant, and look forward to the entertainment in the fall.
Our waiter gave us a personal tour of the entire restaurant following our dinner. We loved the upstairs "Red Room" and the downstairs "Cave". This was a Top 5 meal/restaurant for me and I've eaten at Michelin restaurants throughout Europe.
Go, enjoy, and bring along those special to your heart. They will appreciate it, and you!
Rare prime rib was well done and sides were steam table quality. Service was problematic.
The service was impeccable. The flavors were unique. The steak was just right. All was perfect for our special occasion.
This long-time fan of the old La Brasserie was hesitant to give this restaurant a try, but we loved it. It has been beautifully redecorated and the food was very good. Our server was fine although we did detect a little disappointment in our desire to share a steak. I do understand but always try to compensate at tip time for the shared meal.
Good wine list and good variety on the menu
Frequently select Manahattan Steak and Seafood for special occasions.
I found the service personal attentive and catering to our needs. This was our first time at this restaurant . I would definitely return for dinner. This was our first time for an special occasion for brunch. A definable return
Old School Steak & Seafood with great service and food was cooked perfectly. Had the NY Strip and it was great.
When I saw Beef Wellington on the menu I got excited. When the Beef Wellington arrived at the table, I was disappointed. The puff pastry was undercooked and the meat was overcooked. The ala carte truffled fries were horribly over-salted and very dry. There was no hint of truffles in the taste though I was told the fries were drizzled with truffle oil. Caesar salad was fair and the "sautéed" mushrooms were presented as a creamy mushroom soup. Given the steep prices, I was disappointed in the quality of the food. Service by Sean was excellent.
Great sea bass and scallop dishes.
Very patient server as we were in no hurry. The live jazz was a nice touch.
I always enjoy slouching in the lounge, listening to live jazz and eating oysters here. Nothing makes me feel more special or pampered! This is the place where my boyfriend became my husband, and where my fetus was revealed as being a boy...twice! So this place will always be special to me...but it's subject to my extreme scrutiny regardless. Given that, the service and food are always top notch and I've always been happy with my meals. I recently had the seafood trio and enjoyed the diver scallop so much that I ordered the scallop entree as well! The seafood here is never over cooked- one thing I'm a stickler about. Thank you for also meeting and exceeding my impossible standards for both good food and live music, Manhattan!
Sad to see buffet brunch leaving for menu brunch. We will try it though.
Loved the atmosphere. This restaurant had class, excellent service and the food was great!
Beef Wellington was delicious. So glad this item was on the menu; very few restaurants offer it!
I had great memories of Manhattan Steak and Seafood. My last visit was very disappointing. The service was slow and forgetful and the food was not nearly as good as previous visits. Each time I go I bring colleagues, this time I was entirely embarrassed.
The title of this review came directly from my wife. We were celebrating our 15 year wedding anniversary and Manhattan Steak and Seafood nailed it. When I made the reservation through OpentTable, I made sure to state in the notes field that this was our anniversary. Well, they didn't miss the note. We arrived and were escorted downstairs to the "John Wayne" booth. A quiet little booth in the back corner. In addition to the romantic ambiance that included live music, upon arrival at our table, we were greeted by beautiful red rose petals scattered on the table.
Our waiter, Mark, was in a word, OUTSTANDING! His attention to us was a perfect balance of making sure we were taken care of without constantly being in our face. In fact, after our entree was served and my wife and eye began to say grace, he was careful to be patient and not interrupt.
The Food:
Some of the best we've had in a long time. The amuse-bouche was an flavorful mini beef wellington and it was so tasty. I almost changed my order from the Bison filet, but I was ultimately glad that I did not. I've had Bison before and too often a chef will rush it and it will end of up a bit dry and lacking flavor. This was definitely not the case here. Mine was a perfect medium rare and frankly, I don't think it could have been prepared any better. My wife got the surf and turf and she was not disappointed either. She loves her lobster and hers was perfectly prepared as well. For dessert, we pre-ordered the chocolate souffle and I would highly recommend you do the same, mmmmmm. Shortly after the souffle was service, we received a wonderful surprise. Mark appeared with a slice of chocolate cake topped with a rather large sparkler. This was a perfect end to quite the perfect dinner.
Bottom line:
If you are looking for a fantastic steak and seafood restaurant and want to impress your significant other, you couldn't do much better than Manhattan Steak and Seafood in Orange, CA.
My wife and I celebrated an early Valentine’s on Friday the 12th. I was a little unsure of what to expect, being that I had never been to this restaurant and the online reviews were a mix of good and not so good. The reason I’m writing this review is that my wife and I had such a wonderful time, we would like to encourage other couples to try out this restaurant with the hope that they enjoy it as much as we did. We started our evening in the lounge where there was great live jazz music, happy hour drink specials and our new favorite bartender, Melissa. We were seated for our dinner in the cellar, which is below ground and very romantic. The food was excellent. I had Steak Oscar and my wife had the vegetarian ravioli along with the unique and tasty Chapman Chop salad. Last, but surely not least, came dessert. Again, it was just wonderful! We had a mix of three items. Our favorite was the bread pudding that had both chocolate and caramel--YUM. I can’t forget to make mention of our great waiter Ashton-- definitely ask for him if he is working.
My lady and I came here on a Friday night. Upon entering, there was no host available. After a brief moment, the hostess came out and greeted us with a warm smile and seated us promptly. I've heard good things about this place and with it being a few minutes from my house, we thought we'd be in for a treat.
We started with the oysters Rockefeller for the appetizer and I had to say it was pretty good for our first time trying it. It had a creamy texture and a small crunch from the breaded Panko crumbs. Next, we had the lobster bisque. Unfortunately, the bisque was a tad salty for both our taste.
I didn't want to be "that guy" who returned food to the kitchen so we kind of rolled with it. My lady ordered the filet mignon and I ordered the beef Wellington which was the house special. We ordered the creamed spinach, sautéed mushrooms, and Brussels sprouts as sides.
Now this is where the experience started to go a little downhill for me. As the main entree arrived, I was quite surprised about how small the portion was and disappointed about how the food was presented. For the price I thought there would be more finesse. Supposedly, there was a list of sauces that goes with the beef entrees but was never mentioned by our server, Irvine. When asked about it, he implied he chose two for us, which kind of took me by surprise. The beef Wellington was cooked mediocre at best as it left a dry taste in my mouth and it lacked any flavor whatsoever. I ordered it medium rare and it came out well done; my lady's filet mignon tasted way better. The creamed spinach was more cream than spinach; it was super thick and hard to swallow. The mushrooms were meh and the Brussels sprouts with pancetta was average. The pancetta wasn't even crunchy and looked like it was bacon bits out of the bottle. The highlight of the meal was probably the creme brûlée which surprisingly came out a lot faster than the food. Overall, I would rate this place as average.
Amanda the pastry chef is a genius
Quality of food was disappointing. Sparkling wine has also been downgraded.
Had looked them up on Internet and when ordering was told the items we wanted were no longer on the menu, they had been off for almost a year we were told. Our meals where to be medium rare much more on the medium side and dessert should have bee hot but it was ice cold in the center, will not be going back!
Service was slow and acted confused. Did not act this way the first time we were there.
I took my girlfriend here for your birthday and we loved it. We dressed up real nice and shared a bottle of wine (and I hate wine). The service was very professional and the food was very good. Unless you're rolling in the cash I'd recommend it for only special occasions. Otherwise this place will take you to the cleaners.
First time here and I already want to be a regular. This place is just wonderful from the ambiance to the great service to the best food I've had in a restaurant in ages. Everything was just perfect, really couldn't be any better. I look forward to my next meal here.
Went for brunch and all of the food was great, however the seafood selection didn't look too fresh. I skipped the oysters.
We enjoyed our evening there so much we went back the next night. The food is outstanding and the ambience is classy. Our servers were excellent. Try the Filet Mignon and Beef Wellington, both amazing! Thank you Deb, you are awesome!
Very disappointing! Had read several Yelp reviews and really expected a great experience, not so. We were attracted to the comments about king crab legs and jumbo shrimp, the crab was completely picked over and the shrimp nonexistent, there was a nice Aji sauce however. Moving on... The beef was way over cooked, the duck dry and the eggs Benedict hard (yolks). Very sad. Someone posted that they served good champagne; it was Wycliffe and room temperature and at that, had to ask to get refilled. Wasted $38 each.
Great selection at Brunch. Great tasting and fine quality.
The food was sooo good! Service was great and we enjoyed spending time after dinner in the bar. They had a live band and dancing.
only thing that could be better is the location. Definitely would recommend this restaurant for a romantic and fun evening out.
I have been here many times and Manhattan Restaurant never disappoints. It is a little pricey but well worth it. The food is delicious and the service is great. If you need to go somewhere for a special occasion this is the place.
Didn't have the ostrich and rack of lamb wasn't really good. Bread pudding was nice. Ahi appetizer pretty good. Fish dishes were all meh. I can cook better than this.
