I eapecially like the New York steak Florentine. The piano music can get a bit noisy so if you want to talk without interruption, ask for a table in the far room.
We had a great time and look forward to going back. The place has great energy and service. Wonderful first time experience!
This is a warm welcoming venue. The menu is varied and the food is very good. The service is spotty inconsistent unreliable and not equal to the prices they charge.
We will continue to dine there till we can no longer drive a car.
We took a friend there for a birthday celebration. The reception at the desk was friendly and efficient. The waiters were nicely attired and very helpful and friendly. The service was great. They did not pressure you to order, but encouraged taking your time & relaxing. Our birthday guest was very impressed and enjoyed her meal and evening. The restaurant also gave her a nice serving of cheesecake with a candle. Overall a great experience.
This is hands down my favorite restaurant in the US. 5 stars, always. Love it!!
Manhattan always hits the spot for a satifying dinner. Can also use for special occaisions.
Delicious food and excellent service.
Overly loud jazz music. Nice place with great ambience except for the overly loud music.
We stopped in here late, around 9pm for drinks and dessert. This was our first time here and we visited because our Dad's friend was performing (piano/singer Tad Sisler). The drinks were average and the homeade cheesecake was the best part. The music was so loud that it made it difficult to hear/understand each other speak. The performance was pretty entertaining, we had a great time and felt compelled to give Tad Sisler a tip in his jar. There were several people that got up to dance to many of the songs - even though there is no dance floor, there is room in between the tables to dance and a small space directly in front of the piano. If you are looking for entertainment and a nice place to dine, I would recommend Manhattan. We will definitely be back sometime.
I love this place. We have celebrated our anniversary there twice. Derek is a great waiter.
Fantastic night. The coolest of New York waiters, pasta with great red sauce, cannelloni, egg plant rollatini, and a New York vibe that we have missed. Best meal in town. Thanks!
My husband and I have been to Manhattan's numerous times and it never fails to meet our expectations. The service is outstanding with friendly wait staff, elegant atmosphere but not pretentious. The food is always perfectly prepared.
Manhattan has been a favorite place of ours for over 25 years. Great ambiance, service and food....and music by Tad Sisler Thurs-Sat nights.
Meal and appetizers were very good. Only strange thing was the server removed my fiancees salad while she was still eating it in order to place her entree down. We were a little thrown off and probably should have said something.
The Chef's culinary skills excel that of many others I have tried. At the very least, in the top 5% of any other restaurant out there. Cozy atmosphere & friendly, attentive staff. I would highly recommend it. I enjoyed the evening there with my sweetheart.
Birthday dinner for four of us. i order the special halibut with capers and lemon, excellent. with a slight tad high price ($32) The companions ordered the manhattan combo which gives a sampling of some entree items. reasonably priced. ($20ish). Dessert was complimentary. Wines by glass avg $9/$10. ceasar sald for 4 tossed tableside at $11 each a bit pricey but nice treat. bar area can be noisy: piano and singing so we always choose the side room and a banquette.
This was a very good experience. Food was unique and creative. I will be back my next trip to SD.
A nice to go for old world ambiance. They still make a table side Caesar that is quite good. Service needs polishing. Warm and welcoming interior except FOR THE CARPET TIME TO REPLACE IT.
Great food. Very good service. We didn't have to wait long. We were seated in the other room far from the bar so it's perfect for people looking for a nice and quiet place. And of course our server was very attentive throughout. We would surely come back.
If the food hadn't been so delicious, we would have been more disappointed. The bartender ignored us for a solid 10 minutes and took one drink order and left me waiting another 10 min. before asking me for my order. The servers at our table were attentive, but very brusque and hard to understand. The food definitely carries this place. I recommend the Cannelloni.
The only thing I don't care for is the New York vibe they are providing. I was in SoCal visiting from Chicago, so a big city atmosphere is what i wanted to get away from...locals may appreciate it more. That said, the food was great!
Food mediocre, service not very pleasant and even though I checked in with my name they reported me to open table as a no show. There are better places elsewhere.
Way overpriced. Caesar salad was worst I have every had in an upscale restaurant.
Corkage fee was $25 at least $10 too much.
Service was OK but nothing great.
I would never go back to this restaurant
So many good things; food, service, reasonable prices, location. Unfortunately, the NOISE level is border line painful. Very difficult to carry on a conversation, especially if close by tables are in the "party mode." Maybe not the best choice for the over 60 crowd.
Delivering high quality the last 5 or 6 times I have come here. None in rib eye that two of three diners had was rated as great. Chicken Parm also excellent. excellent service. A bit pricy but you get the quality you expect and then some
This was our first time to Manhattan's, and we really enjoyed it. Great food, especially the seafood. Really enjoyed the older-school atmosphere, and very good service. Nice job, we'll be back for sure.
It is always a pleasure to bring friends to the Manhattan for dinner. The food, service, and ambiance were outstanding as usual. This is the reason that the Manhattan is our favorite restaurant and has been since we moved here in 1989.
We had several things and it all was delicious. Even got a couple desserts. Great atmosphere.
We booked a December 23rd "birthday celebration" which the hostess confirmed upon arrival. We were seated promptly but waited 10 minutes before our server brought the menus. We said "How are you this evening?" to which he replied "Extremely busy!" After another 5 minutes, our assistant server poured water and we said "How are you this evening?" to which he replied"Extremely busy!" After yet another 10 minutes we got some bread and butter but our server did not come to take our drink order until a full 30 minutes after we were seated. We tried to let him know that we also were ready with our food order but either he did not hear us or chose not to listen. We ordered when our drinks came and it was another full half hour before we were served. My Lobster Manhattan was absolutely amazing but my husband's entree, Sausage and Roaster Peppers with Penne, was a disaster. We like our pasta served al dente but this was seriously under done and the sausage was bitter because it was burned. I asked my husband to send it back but he was afraid to do so, saying it would take "forever" to get another entree prepared and served. Lastly, the birthday celebration was forgotten - despite the fact that 4 other birthdays were celebrated around us. Overall, I give this a so-so rating. Even though it was the Christmas season, a restaurant rated like this one should be able to cope with a truly busy time. Don't think we'd give this another try.
Took a team of 20 to dinner. IT WAS A BIG HIT WITH EVERYONE. For having a large group order from the menu was terrific. (Usually, a group that size has a limited menu.) The restaurant was very accommodating, the service was excellent, and the food was terrific! I had the veal Milanese and it was THE BEST EVER. I'll go back just for that. Thanks for making this night so wonderful.
Celebrated a friends birthday here, they were attentive and the food was great. Our waiter made some food recommendations and he was right the veal was moist and tasty.
Was a nice night overall. They easily handled or group of 11. Everyone enjoyed it.
Excellent food, extensive wine and drink list. Entertainment was live, greathe atmosphere for romantic or business dinner.
This is our favorite go to spot for La Jolla. The Manhattan has felt like home since 1986. Owners and wait staff excellent.
The food, ambiance and service is very good. This is a special place to celebrate an event (birthday, anniversary). It is romantic and the piano player in the bar is terrific. Do not sit in the room with the bar unless you want loud music to compete with your conversation.
Eat early to miss the crowd. The timing was off on delivering the main course. They brought it before we were done with our starters. Then two dishes were cold and one over cooked. The meal went down hill from there. A sorry does not cut it. They knew what they were doing.
Been 15 years since last time here. Good service, good meal at an OK price. My recollection of long ago was, very good service and meal at an OK price.
Maybe those 15 years made us a little more picky.
Always a favorite when having our corporate guests in town. Great ambiance and dining experience.
Super place. Our waiter seemed like he wasn't "there".... he was a bit off. He didn't know what kind of Vodka they had or what kind of bourbon they had. Wife asked for raspberry's for her drink and they brought cherries.
Just a bit off, which is out of the ordinary.
