Manhattan of La Jolla Ratings and Reviews
We were seated at a strange table that looked towards all the other diners which was awkward. We were not given menus. A waiter eventually asked if we would like a drink - no offer of menu's and he had to describe the beers on offer. Said beer arrived and still no menus after finishing the beer and 45 minutes later we had to ask for dinner menus. We ordered after being there an hour. The cannelloni was good. The lobster ravioli had no discernable lobster and was overpowered by garlic. The Veal Fiorentina( the signature dish) was overcooked and overrated. The Halibut was excellent. The piano bar added an ambiance and as it was my birthday a tiramisu was offered for dessert which was a nice touch, thank you. The evening, however, had already disappointed by the lack of service and uneven food in an establishment where the reviews and prices seemed to indicate it was amongst the best...
Very male oriented restaurant with all male servers. I, a female, made the reservation using Open Table under a female name, however, upon entering the restaurant, my husband was greeted and shown the table. They even addressed my husband and not myself. The only women in the restaurant was at the entrance desk. I mention ‘all male’ servers, because they make the big tips. Very ‘old school’ old La Jolla crowd. Our friends took us to this restaurant because of the excellent authentic food. I was served a good Manhattan cocktail, however, the bartender used a marichino cherry and not the traditional Italian cherry. Overall, I would never return because I do not see any diversity in the staff. I refuse to dine at any restaurant that doesn’t offer both males and females the same income opportunity.
Traditional, white table cloth ambiance. Service (our waiter whose name was Manny) was excellent!!! He was very accommodating to our small group which was celebrating a friend's special birthday. He went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect for us. The food was quite good and could please a wide variety of diets, from steak lovers to vegans. We enjoyed our time there very much.
I was expecting great food especially for the prices- it was just "good". The Ceasar salad was very disappointing- most of the lettuce wilted and faded- not crisp and green like it should be- the dressing ,made at the table, was a real letdown. The wine list was, at best, just fair . The entrees were good and the wait staff accommodating but all in all not the great dining experience I had hoped for.
AmaZing food! I’m from NY, Italian and a hard critic... simply put it’s the best Italian food I’ve had in the 4 years Living in California. Great atmosphere and live music make it 5 stars. Stay Classy San Diego...Sweet baby Jesus...Help me Tom Cruise... (yes drinks were strong too)
I was very disappointed in the service and the location of the table. we were in the bar area and the servers seemed to be more attentive in the main dining room. We waited so long after our meal for the dessert menu and then for someone to take our order that we left without ordering dessert.
Love the food, atmosphere, and service. This is old-school style of eating, especially in the piano room. Very fun and the food is always outstanding. The service is on-point and love the live piano music which starts around 7:00pm. Great people watching on weekends!
We love dining at the Manhattan. The energy is the front dining room/bar/dance floor area is very high so we requested a quiet table - we're older and want to be able to visit with our friends without shouting. They did a terrific job of honoring my request. And everything we ordered we loved.
A wonderful traditional New York City style restaurant with Italian influences in downtown La Jolla. This restaurant offers a very good, traditional, old-fashioned, great service, white tablecloth dining experience. They have excellent cocktails, table-side Caesar salad and excellent food. The cannelloni, and lobster ravioli are stand-out offerings on the pasta menu, and there are great options for fish, veal, steaks, etc. I went there again for the cannelloni, which I love. Service is excellent - dark suit for the head waiter and black and white for the others.
we recently moved to la jolla and this was our first time dinning here. this place is a hidden gem. the food was top notch, they had live music and best of all was our sever Ara. His food recommendations were excellent, the service was great and best of all was his charming personality. By the time we left, people were dancing and the mood was very festive with a 40+ year old crowd. we wished we had known so we could have stayed longer. this really has the feeling of being one of our new regular spots.
Manhattan is always consistently good. TheyHave classic dishes that are well prepared with generous portions and are uniquely delicious. Their Caesar salad is the only one in San Diego or Los Angeles that is a truly authentic Caesar salad with robust taste, garlic, anchovies, and Parmesan cheese and prepared of the table
This is one wonderful restaurant. It has been around for many, many years and the quality of food is as good as ever. They have some of the best bartenders that make you feel right at home. Also have a piano bar that was being enjoyed by many before and after their meal. The food is excellent and the staff very attentive. We were celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary and were treated so well. I would recommend this as a quiet, intimate moment or for a family gathering; they have room to make both happen and everything in between. We will be back the next time we are back in San Diego.
