Manhattan in the Desert - Palm Springs Ratings and Reviews
Manhattan in the Desert is a wonderful “go-to” place for Deli-style food and many other options. Having been to every deli restaurant in the area, Manhattan in the Deli remains our favorite. Huge portions! Service is always warm, friendly, and professional.
This is a true oasis: variety and service with scrumptious breakfast options. A terrific diner without the low-rent ambience (or the annoying noise level) of a New York experience. And the pastry options at the checkout counter are tempting enough to seduce even the most steadfast dieters!
A wide menu, expansive hours, and a roomy and pleasant interior ensure that's Manhattan in the Desert is always a good choice, especially for "comfort food." Large portions (a hallmark of the region) do not disappoint here, and the quality is consistently good, as well.
We made reservations on July 15 via Open Table for 4people at 7pm. Because of an accident on east Hwy 111 ( east of the restaurant) where the police closed traffic at 6:50pm, the manager decided to close the restaurant altogether . Four cars pulled up to the parking lot and were told the place was closing leaving us to find alternate dining venues. Two other cars pulled in as we were leaving. Clearly, they didn't care that most Palm Springs residents live WEST of Manhattan in the Desert. And they never bothered to call us on our mobiles that were added to the Open Table reservation. Poor judgement and customer service! They would never have done this if it were high season. But screw the local year round residents!
We visited this past Saturday and were severely disappointed. Our service was poor to say the least. Our server decided to not write down our order, which is not an issue is you get the order correct. However, only the kids' meals came out correctly. The food was subpar, even down to the chicken noodle soup. My egg cream came unmade with a side of seltzer. Everyone was disappointed with their lunch from the worst reuben to dry and bland egg salad. When we went to pay, the server took our credit card but it took going to the hostess station for her to bring it back to us. Will not return.
Always great. Sandwiches are HUGE! For those who want lighter fare, I recommend soup and 1/2 sandwich. The half sandwich is as big as most regular restaurant sandwiches. The matzo ball soup (w/ an added kreplach known as Mish Mash Soup) is my favorite but on a hot day, try the borscht, excellent!
This restaurant is just ok, we had the pastrami sandwich which was very salty to me. There was nothing healthy to eat on the menu, so I considered this a cheat day since it was Mothers Day. The service was good, the decor was old and run down with torn seat cushions. It was clean but the restaurant needs a major update inside. They also need to update and add a healthy section to the menu.
