Mango Peruvian Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Another good experience at Mango. Four friends for lunch and well worth the 30-mile trip. The staff is very friendly and does all it can to meet your needs. My wife ordered an evening appetizer that is not shown on the lunch menu. The server said she'd check with the chef and they quickly said they'd prepare it. The mixed mushroom dish was again extremely tasty. Our friends had the chicken over rice and the mahi-mahi ceviche and were very pleased. Always a safe bet for a good meal at Mango
Service was very, very friendly, but occasionally quite slow, particularly at the bar. Do not hesitate to contact anyone if you are missing something. As soon as I did that it came promptly. The food and drinks were mostly very good and decently priced. I particularly enjoyed my machu picchu sour, but at $12, one was plenty. My fish entree was $32. I would never have ordered it if I had been paying for it myself. It was by far the most expensive and by far the least satisfying thing I ordered. It was just ok. The beet appetizer was spectacular and the simple dessert, the first on the menu, was quite delicious, and both were very reasonably priced. This was the best upscale food I have ever had in St. Louis, and the crowd was lively and obviously enjoying themselves. Sometimes the noise level was loud, but not oppressively so.
I was called twice by Mango to confirm reservation. Was surprised to have open table contact me the next day to indicate we were tagged as “No Show”. We were there and the issue was clarified.
This was my third time at Mango and the service was not what it used to be; perhaps a change in management? We were seated quickly but it took a while (15 minutes) for waitress to approach us. Rather than taking our drink order, the menu was reviewed. While we appreciated the review of the menu (left side small plates, right side entrees), our waitress abruptly left because we were missing the “specials” menu. Upon her return, that was reviewed and we were asked if we had any questions. So, we asked “can we please order a cocktail?” That took some back and forth as the waitress wasn’t aware what types of whiskey or rye were available.
We did order food and it came out pretty quickly and it was great although the beef empinanda we were served was frozen inside. The issue was rectified quickly.
They just seemed understaffed with some staff that was inexperienced but maybe that’s something they are trying to rectify. The food is great, the ambiance is fantastic and staff was polite. Just seemed off that evening but I would come back
Superb food! Was seated at an excellent location (as requested). Wait staff was spotty; interrupted several times by waitress who apparently thought what she said was more important. Table prep people (water servers) were much more poised.
Overall, we plan to return--the food is excellent!
My 1st time eating Peruvian. My wife has been to Peru multiple times. We both really enjoyed our meals. The Causa de Salmon and Anticuchos were excellent and my wife really enjoyed the Lomo Saltado and Ceviche de Pescado. (we shared everything). Add in great service and nice atmosphere and it was a very enjoyable night.
The food was great...once you eventually get it. Service was slow and one of us did get served their meal with allergens included despite the request for otherwise. The place was busy, so the slow service could be understood, but a lot of little things added up to a rough night overall.
I was not sure what to expect of Mango's after reading the reviews here. My date and I had a terrific experience and we will return.
The service was quick and our server was very helpful. She was informed and answered all of our questions. She made a great recommendation regarding the appetizer, scallops on a stick. Yum! The Top Shelf Pisco Sours were delicious.
I had the soup which was very flavorful and the Pescado a lo Macho. Brilliant! My date had the Pollo en Salsa de Mango and loved it.
Great presentation, great service, great food. We will return, soon.
Loved it! Our waitress, Nellie, was knowledgeable and attentive. She guided us through the menu and the typical Peruvian ingredients, which were not typical for us. The food was flavorful and delicious, surrounded by a wonderful ambiance. I can't wait to go back!
I told my server that I was going to run out of adjectives in praise of the meal I enjoyed an Mango this week. This was truly one of the most creative and well prepared meals that I have enjoyed in quite a while. Flavors were incredible across the board and matched with perfect portion sizes. Can't wait to get back to St. Louis!
Salty server and way too salty entrees. Hopefully an exception, we had both special 3 course meals being served to benefit a local non profit. The starters were both excellent which gave hope even when timing between dishes was off. The kitchen was apparently "backed up" though we didn't mind as it was a good setting and special treat for us.
When they finally arrived, both dishes were almost inedibly salty. The meats were good but altogether it was not. We very rarely complain, yet felt the need to be honest when the server asked. When told the dishes were unsatisfactory, the server had no real response which was doubly unsatisfying. We really wanted it to be good and I think it may have been an off night?
We held a 70th birthday dinner with 17 guests. Despite the large number of diners, the staff did a real good job keeping up with everyone's requests. Service was very good and the kitchen did a great job timing 17 meals for simultaneous delivery. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we heard no complaints; quite an achievement with so many guests. We brought our own bakery cake and the staff did a fantastic job of serving it with a flair. Mango remains one of our favorite St. Louis dining spots.
