Mangiamo Ratings and Reviews
Mangiamo's is one of my favorites. Always interesting apps, great menu -excellent sea food, accommodating for food allergies, fun drinks, great locaton. It's has never disappointed. Be prepared to say "What?" during converstations as this place is very loud.
Had 6:15 reservations. Walked in, bar was packed, standing room only, but fortunately didn’t have to wait to get table. Attentive waiters, great service. Food was excellent and modest but nice wine list. Noise level manageable in the back room, better than up front. Enjoyable evening. Haven’t been in awhile, but will be coming back again soon!!
Food was perfection. Fresh swordfish was amazing as was gnocchi and oxtail. Pumpkin tortellini to start was so nice. Service was really lovely with great attention to detail. The seating isn’t the best. If you’re not in the main dining room, you feel shoved in the back room. It doesn’t have a normal flow. All around great experience.
This was our third visit to Mangiamo's. We always order their Gnocchi's; they are light and fluffy, unlike most other restaurants that serve rocks for Gnocchi's. The pear salad was to die for and the mussels were outstanding. Will return to Mangiamo's whenever in Manhattan Beach.
Second reservation here in one week and this experience much better. It's all based on where you sit. There is a semi private wine cellar off kitchen that allows for quiet conversation vs. the open Dining area. That's where I recommend, but seating is not guaranteed in that section. Pasta dishes are amazing. Service very nice this time (no spillage!!!) and staff super friendly. We are locals and dine here often, so happy to recommend. Only heads up is if you sit in main dining room, and bar is crowded or restaurant crowded - the noise is a real challenge.
You really have to be aware of the acoustics I. This place as they suck- you will leave with a raging headache and having no clue what your dinner guests said as it’s epically loud! We asked to turn the music down twice as its so loud with conversation they blast music on top of that! Service was iffy- didn’t seem like server or greater understood what specials were or whose job it was to share them with us! Server also sprinkled my lap with Parmesan cheese as she missed the pasta! Seriously? Salads ar over slated! It’s nice and charming but they’ve got to fix the acoustics!
We started off with a couple expertly made cocktails at the bar, had the beef carpaccio and escargot for appetizers, oxtail and lamb chops for the main and finished off with bread pudding. Everything was made to perfection. The wait service was very attentive and knowledgeable. I would recommend strongly!
Mangiamo is the best restaurant in Manhattan Beach. I have been a customer for more than 30 years and I have never had less than a most pleasant experience there. The service is fantastic and the food is simple and delicious. We choose to celebrate every occasion there and we also just love to go for a nice meal out. Bravissimo!
My recent return refreshed my good dining memories when I dined here quite often about 10-15 years ago. Still foods are great while whine list is extensive. Likewise, bar at the entrance is always crowded after a fun day on the beach. Dining area is somehow uniquely designed and a table surrounded by wine cellar gives you semi-private dining experience. It is only downside to find a parking spot uneasily.
Always enjoy Mangiamo's. Our waitress was fabulous and the food was excellant as always. My husband and son had the cioppino and I had the stuffed figs wrapped in proscuitto for an appetizer with the Mangiamo's special chopped salad with chicken added.
Even though the tables are close together you do not feel cramped.
This was our anniversary dinner and we left spending a lot of money and not feeling like the flavor was worth the money. I mean it was FINE but it was not what you would expect for a $200 meal. Especially as we chose this place for our anniversary we wanted it to be extra special and walked away feeling disappointed. The ambiance and service were lovely and we got a nice bottle of wine, but that was the extent of the positives. My husband ordered the vodka pasta and I ordered the porkchop. We ended up swapping because neither of us were in love with our dish. The presentation of the porkshop was INCREDIBLE and I expected the flavor to match but I didn't love it. My husband felt like the pasta was something he could have gotten anywhere. Nothing spectacular about the food. And maybe it was just what we ordered? The butter cake was probably the biggest disappointment, it was super dry and we knew we could have gotten the best butter cake ever just up the street.
I have been on generous business expense account for entertaining customers in Beverly Hills, Manhattan, Hartford, Montreal, since the early 1970's, and I desidsd in Manhattan Beach for 40 yrs before retiring to So. Florida. The sand send as well as the entire menu is as good as any restaurant in the U.S................be sure to try the dining here at the beach! J. Pahlow
Great as usual. There were six of us and we had five different entrees. Salmon was fantastic. Ox Tail simply fell off the bone. It was delicious. Fish and scallop dishes were also delicious. Fig appetizer is not on the menu but is a frequent special and it is highly recommended. The wine list has something for everyone. CA reds are affordable and the list includes plenty of imports and high $$ wine if that’s your preference. Atmosphere is lively but the cellar tables are also romantic. I have yet to be disappointed here.
We were in LA, staying near LAX and googled best Italian restaurants in Manhattan Beach. So glad we went and will return every time we come back. Drinks from the bar came out slow, but worth the wait, food was phenomenal and unique. Our server Danny was slow as well, he probably had too big a station. Loved the bar, and location
Really great service and price point is an exceptional value. From the time I booked my open table to walking in and walking out, it truly was a great experience. I'd go back every month if I could lose the calories I consumed Saturday night.
Desserts are awesome, seafood specials amazing and the bartender is polished alchemist.
