Mangiamo Ratings and Reviews
My girlfriend and I were celebrating Valentine's Day and we were more than happy to be there until they gave us our glasses of water and one of them came with lipstick on the rim like someone in the kitchen drank out of it. I doubt that it was freshly washed when they gave it to us. Honestly it was horrible experience to have at a restaurant that seemed very nice
I haven't been there for years. Used to go in the early 80's. We were staying up the street at the Shade and thought, why not go to dinner to a tried and true place. Glad we had a reservation. We were seated immediately. Others were given impossible wait times. There really isn't a great seat or table in there because it's so tight, but you go there for the food. We were seated in the main room up front, at the last table before there hallway of wine storage. Our waitress was great. understanding with us as I have food allergies to tomatoes (I love them, miss them and have to substitute a lot). Easily found something that would work.
Restaurant is quite small and VERY loud. It was so difficult to have a conversation. Service was far below what I excepted. We had to ask for water, bread and fresh pepper. Our server never asked if we would like coffee/ after dinner drink to go with our dessert.
The food was tasty and the potions were generous. We had a tomato tower to start. Pasta carbonara and penne vodka were flavorful. The chocolate soufflé was delicious!
Do not know why I haven’t tried this neighborhood gem before. On a cool evening the wonderful, authentic pasta dishes were true comfort food. The service was wonderful and the environment was welcoming. Can’t wait to go back to try some of the wonderful looking fish and meat dishes I saw coming out of the kitchen. ...and the cauliflower appetizer was incredible!
We keep coming back because this place is special. It was our third anniversary and this place is our go to for any special occasion. Just a wonderful overall experience. very special, very romantic and most of all just a culinary delight. Cant say enough good things about Mangiamos.
Mangiamo's is one of my favorites. Always interesting apps, great menu -excellent sea food, accommodating for food allergies, fun drinks, great locaton. It's has never disappointed. Be prepared to say "What?" during converstations as this place is very loud.
Had 6:15 reservations. Walked in, bar was packed, standing room only, but fortunately didn’t have to wait to get table. Attentive waiters, great service. Food was excellent and modest but nice wine list. Noise level manageable in the back room, better than up front. Enjoyable evening. Haven’t been in awhile, but will be coming back again soon!!
Food was perfection. Fresh swordfish was amazing as was gnocchi and oxtail. Pumpkin tortellini to start was so nice. Service was really lovely with great attention to detail. The seating isn’t the best. If you’re not in the main dining room, you feel shoved in the back room. It doesn’t have a normal flow. All around great experience.
This was our third visit to Mangiamo's. We always order their Gnocchi's; they are light and fluffy, unlike most other restaurants that serve rocks for Gnocchi's. The pear salad was to die for and the mussels were outstanding. Will return to Mangiamo's whenever in Manhattan Beach.
Second reservation here in one week and this experience much better. It's all based on where you sit. There is a semi private wine cellar off kitchen that allows for quiet conversation vs. the open Dining area. That's where I recommend, but seating is not guaranteed in that section. Pasta dishes are amazing. Service very nice this time (no spillage!!!) and staff super friendly. We are locals and dine here often, so happy to recommend. Only heads up is if you sit in main dining room, and bar is crowded or restaurant crowded - the noise is a real challenge.
You really have to be aware of the acoustics I. This place as they suck- you will leave with a raging headache and having no clue what your dinner guests said as it’s epically loud! We asked to turn the music down twice as its so loud with conversation they blast music on top of that! Service was iffy- didn’t seem like server or greater understood what specials were or whose job it was to share them with us! Server also sprinkled my lap with Parmesan cheese as she missed the pasta! Seriously? Salads ar over slated! It’s nice and charming but they’ve got to fix the acoustics!
We started off with a couple expertly made cocktails at the bar, had the beef carpaccio and escargot for appetizers, oxtail and lamb chops for the main and finished off with bread pudding. Everything was made to perfection. The wait service was very attentive and knowledgeable. I would recommend strongly!
