Mangiamo Ratings and Reviews
Had a table of six girls celebrating my friend's birthday! Everything was perfect! I had been here before and did not have a great experience, but last nights experience changed everything!! I will definitely be back!! Food, service and atmosphere was absolutely amazing!
We have been enthusiastic patrons of Mangiamo's since it opened in 1983. Food and service are consistently excellent. Very pleasant adult atmosphere. Just steps from the Manhattan Beach Pier. We live in a part of LA that can get very hot in the summer. On a hot weekend night, we jump in the car and head for an early dinner a Mangiamo's followed by a walk along the Strand of Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach. Perfect summer evening.
Appetizer special (peach bruchetta) and butter cake dessert with house made limoncello were standouts. Entrees weren't quite as impressive, but good. Wine cellar seating was very pleasant! Especially if you want a slightly more quiet place to have a conversation.
We asked for a quiet table, and we were led deep into the bowels of the building to a quiet area indeed! Really nice for old coots like us who don't relish the lively "new restaurant scene" where we can't hear each other talk. We sampled "Sunday Pasta Night", which was just fine. We'll be back to try more enticing things.
This was the second time I've been to Mangiamo. The food is excellent, as is the service but the noise level in the front part of the restaurant is deafening. We requested the wine cellar both times we were there and so we were able to converse with our friends while we enjoyed a wonderful meal.
Non mi piace il vitello paillardo. The risotto with langoustine and lemon tasted watery and as if made from regular rice, not riso arborio. Il risotto con formaggio e tartufo nero e il prosciutto e melone erano bellissimi. The wine (Amarone) seemed a touch too warm - five degrees Fahrenheit cooler would have been just right.
We enjoyed a night out with our adult son. The service was top notch from start to end. The food was , as always, exceeding our expectations. We have never been disappointed and almost always choose one of the fresh daily specials. One clear favorite is their gnocchi, but they change it up so many ways, it's rarely the same. We love it here.
We go to Mangiamo quite often because they have an amazing menu with very high quality dishes. My only complaint is that I've never liked the seating...way too cramped with tables right next to others. But the restaurant was built at least 30 years ago, so I guess there's nothing that can be done about the ambiance.
Mangiamo is one of our favorite restaurants. We probably eat there on average two or three times a month.we have introduced many of our friends and neighbors to it and the feedback is always universally positive. Ron Guidone, the owner, is scrupulous in making sure the food particularly fish is always fresh. And he serves some of the best pasta dishes I have had anywhere, and the best cioppino I have ever had.
Try it. You will not be disappointed.
We went for Fathers' Day and took our kids with us. The staff looked at us like we had brought aliens and promptly seated us next to the kitchen. Our kids are well-mannered and eat in restaurants all the time. The service was less than I would have expected given the prices. We asked about the difference between two wines on the list and were told that the more expensive one was "the more popular one", which is always a hallmark of someone who 1/ knows nothing about the wines on the list, and 2/ just wants to upsell me. We were rushed through our dinner with no offer of dessert. All of that said, the food was excellent. Overall, though, we will not be back.
We arrived early and were able to enjoy a view of the ocean from the window seats opposite the bar -- a great way to start the evening, with a glass of wine and the view of the sun going down. It was a busy night at Mangiamo, so there was a short wait when our reservation time arrived, but the manager found us a great table in the main dining area, tucked up against the wall so we had a great view of the restaurant. I ordered the braised oxtails and pasta, my wife ordered the fried cauliflower with cheese. We were both pleased with our meals, the wine, and had another great meal. We will definitely return.
