We chose this restaurant last minute for a large party on a Saturday night. The restaurant easily accommodated us. We all had salads and pastas with wine. Salads were fresh. Pasta was excellent. Our servers were polite and efficient. All in all, we had a great dinner.
A little Italian restaurant on Clay Street nestled between Chinatown and the Financial District. Dishes were rich, flavorful and generous in portions. Service was a bit spotty. Maybe we got a new waitperson but overall enjoyed our experience there.. A good place for business meals. Nice and classy setting without the $$.
Not fancy or pretentious, just great food, very reasonable price, and a friendly atmosphere.
I have been going to Mangia for about 18 years now and it has never let me down. Wonderful people and great food
Needs updating inside. I had to ask to turn on music.
The food is always delicious and expertly prepared and the portions are quite generous. The veal tortellini with asparagus and prosciutto that I had ordered on my last visit nearly entirely covered the 12-inch plate on which it was served. No complaints, though, because the tortellini was covered in a heavenly béchamel sauce! The service is always great, not to mention the owner and staff are pretty hot. They are attentive but do not hover.
The most amazing Italian food in town. Service was truly exceptional. A truly hole in the wall. A gem to be discovered!
We came for a group lunch and the meatballs were superb. Insalata romana was excellent as well. Highly recommend! Cameriere era meraviglioso. Grazie mille!
We had an enjoyable dinner here. Wonderful, clean and delicious gem at the edge of Chinatown. Menu is great for kids as well.
The server was super friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. The prices were also reasonable compared to others in the area. I highly recommend a visit to this establishment.
We were a table of 4. The menu was extensive. My pasta was fine, but not outstanding.
The service was good. I've found better Italian restaurants near home on the peninsula.
If you live in SF there are many other options but if you're visiting from out of town and want a quick bite to satisfy your hunger cravings and a place to rest your feet before hitting Chinatown, you'll be happy here. The staff is really nice and fast. The portions are huge. What we ordered:
Bread is yummy
Mozzarella app is comparable to store bought, not a recommendation.
Gnocchi w/marinara is nice and light
Duck ravioli was tasty
Overall good experience.
Average food, obviously reheated. Would not recommend or go back.
By far my favourite Italian restaurant! Exquisite food and impeccable service.
I made a reservation for 8 and requested that we arrive 15 mins before the reservation and that we only had an hr to eat lunch. I received a call from the restaurant the morning of, to confirm the reservation and our constraints. They were very hospitable, service was wonderful, food was great. We were even able to get appetizers before our entrees and had plenty of time. There aren't many differnent options for food in the area and this was a nice surprise. Worked out perfect for our lunch. Risotto special was delicious.
The staff was very warm and attentive. The food is classic Italian and very good.
Went on New Year's Eve, didn't realize they were only doing a 3 course prix, we tried 3 different salads, different entrees, and 2 different desserts, all were just mediocre. And at $40 per person, Olive Garden would've tastes better and had a cheaper meal.
The message is: don't eat out on Xmas night! First, it is fair game to have a limited menu, on a night like Xmas...but $50 for a three course meal (there were no other choices)?that was over cooked (chicken breast), over seasoned(steak),plain food without much imagination....with wine ($20 for a half carafe of house wine), chocolate soufflé that was really a molten chocolate cake), it was hard to feel we were not taken advantage of). The bill with tip was $150...
We won't be back to see if their regular meal is any better... Our fault for not staying home or going to a hotel for restaurant service.
Excellent service. Delicious food. Reasonable price for Christmas eve dinner in the city.
Ask for which items are made fresh daily. The gnocci were pillow soft and the lasagna special melted in my mouth. Not fancy or pretentious, just great food, very reasonable price, and a friendly atmosphere.
Craving Italian cuisine? Well, skip this restaurant as you won't be satisfied as the food is marginal, over-priced and the decor is non-existent.
The food was great but the food took over an hour to get to the table. We ordered before the restaurant got busy and had to ask for water refills and for our order to be checked on.
The restuarant wasn't very crowded but it was 8:30. I had the best gnocchi I have ever had and I have had a lot of gnocchi. My husband had rigatoni and loved that too. The restuarant was very clean and the waiters gave impeccable service. I wanted to go again the next night but we had to try another restuarant(which ended up to be a dog). Great place for Italian!
Had a post-class reunion dinner at Mangia Tutti last Saturday. Always excellent food and always great service. Looking forward to going again soon.
Great 2010 Primitivo! The orechellini ear shaped pasta is good, but I saw that it's from a pre-packaged bag. I also like some sauce with it. Very good molten lava chocolate dessert soufflé.
We had a group dinner for 7 of us at Mangia Tutti after work. The menu selections were varied enough to satisfy everyone and the food was very good (but not spectacular). In general the service was reasonably attentive but there were unreasonably long gaps between courses and we had to ask three times for a dessert menu. It took over 30 minutes to get the check and again we had to ask repeatedly. The restaurant was not that busy, so it's hard to explain that lapse. On the whole, however, the evening was a pleasant experience with good food and a comfortable setting. We plan to return.
I took my family to this restaurant for dinner after a matinee, and was very pleased with my decision. The menu contains something for everyone, including a wide range of pasta dishes. The family friendly atmosphere was great, as our party included teenagers and an octogenarian. We all enjoyed our meals, especially the pasta bolognese and the shrimp scampi. The service was exceptional, and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming.
Everything was great about this restaurant. The server was very helpful in helping choice the wine for the different courses. The food was great and the servings were perfect.
Best dish was the cappellini with their very good red sauce. Swordfish special was tasty by doused in way too much oil (same for the asparagus drenched in butter). Bread was fresh but almost like white bread and needs to be upgraded. very nice service and convenientt location.
we had a very enjoyable lunch, service was good and attentive. We will be back
Great for business lunches. Old school Italian restaurant in the FIDI.
Based on Open Table reviews, we booked reservation here. The neighborhood was just o.k., and when we arrived for early dining, there was NO one in there---made us wonder. However, within short time, people began arriving. Food was very good, reasonably priced and service was excellent. Would definitely go back when in the area.
Great food, wonderfull staff, terrific night, Loved it: exeeded all expectations!
The fixed Valentine menu was OK. I wanted to return for the daily menu.
Hard to beat the price for the quality of food and service. Even on Valentine's Day with their special fixed price dinner (three courses for $50), it was a great meal with excellent choices. On our list of favorites when visiting SF.
Food was ok. It was close to the hotel we said at. Red sauce was very good.
Excellent Italian Spot that really has authentic fresh food. The service was great which complimented the food as well.
We ate here on New Years Eve. The food was excellent and we stayed for kquite a while and did not feel that they were hurrying us out to "turn a table" on a big night. The service was just right
went to mangia tutti after a movie on christmas day it was packed but they accommodated us, their price fixe menu of $45 was a little steep for salad pasta bread and dessert
but it was all DELICIOUS. would go back for the regular menu items for sure. casual family run and friendly.
Mangia Tutti offered one of the best holiday prix fixe menus that you could ever hope to find in any neighborhood of San Francisco, let alone the financial district! $45 was the price of the Christmas three-course menu that featured choices among six appetizers, eight entrees, and five desserts. The generous portions of salad and carpaccio were excellent indications of what was to come. The salmon was grilled to perfection and the filet mignon was so tasty and huge that it served as breakfast the next day. Monica Suarez and her husband are to be commended for creating a very welcoming environment that is matched by great value for your dining dollar.
