Excellent quality of vegetables and seafood. Well seasoned. Nice presentations. Love their hot and sour soup and lettuce wrapped chicken. Been coming here for years.

We have been to Mandarin Roots a number of times, and really enjoy the menu. Food is excellent, service is fine, and we have never left unsatisfied. We happened to be there on Valentine's Day this night, and it appeared they may have overbooked. Many people apparently showed up late for their reservations, which pushed all of the later diners back. Our 7:45 reservation resulted in us being seated at 8:25. A glass of wine at the bar helped pass the time! If you are looking for Asian cuisine that is a bit upscale, with some interesting variations from the usual, don't hesitate to book a table. Just check before you arrive to see if the seatings are on time.

The green onion flatbread was very good. The Cha-shiu sea bass, though over—priced, was also very tasty. In general, the food was pretty tasty but over-flavored.

First time here although I've passed by quite a few times. The service was fantastic and the food was pretty darn good. We ordered the Sichuan Dan Dan noodles, Peking duck fried rice, and green beans and the portions were hearty. Definitely recommend if you want Chinese food in the area.

The food was good but not great, but the service was very nice. It has the potential to have nice ambience, but both times I've been there the noise level has been an issue given the poor acoustics. And especially the recent visit with a full house and big tables --we had to shout to hear each other in a table for four.

Exceptional! This is without a doubt our “go-to” place when friends come to town. We also make it our date spot at least twice a month! Quite honestly, our favorite place by far!
We’ve not been disappointed by anything ordered! Absolutely love it!

Pleasantly surprised with the portions during happy hour, they were full sized! Best dine in value in Palo Alto.

This is a first visit to this restaurant and it was for a birthday dinner. I was not told in advance there would be a party of 60 for Amazon. There is no private dining here and instead of putting them in the bar area they were in the main dining area. It was loud when they were all seated but between dinner and dessert most of them were up mingling oblivious of the rest of us and the noise level was over the top. I realize the restaurant felt this was out of their control but it would have been nice to know in advance. The food was delicious but I can't say I would go back.

Outside seating in December, despite heaters, isn't that comfortable. Would prefer to have a choice. Food is pretty good, interesting, well prepared but a bit overpriced. Very much like the idea of Chinese fusion. There is room for improvement.

I chose this restaurant on Open Table for a date night with my husband. We were looking for something generally casual, something we had not tried before. This restaurant is not in the downtown Palo Alto scene, so it is more casual and less pretentious. While Chinese food based, it is more eclectic and the flavors are more interesting than basic Chinese. We ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke, the Chicken Moo-Shu, the Peking Duck Spring Roll, and the Hong Kong crispy noodles. We loved everything except the crispy noodle dish as we didn't enjoy the sauce. We also ordered one of the house cocktails that had sake and citrus in it but I can't remember the name. That was delicious! The noise is moderate but easy enough to have a conversation and the decor was not super fancy, just comfortable. They have a bunch of large tables, good for family gatherings, but a number of smaller tables for date night. A great find!

We ate outside and were quite comfortable but it seemed louder inside. Nice variety of drinks and food options.
