Mamma Tanino's Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Really really really good Italian food. We split the homemade burrata, pappardelle bolognese and pollo marsala. The sauces were beautifully seasoned and artfully placed on the pasta and meat. The chicken was juicy. The pasta was tasty and thick. The burrata was soft and creamy. Great Italian wine also!
but this past Friday night was outstanding! We both had the lamb chop lollipops and ate every morsel of our dinner - which we don't typically do. The service can be difficult at times depending on your server, but we felt like family that night - which is part of the appeal (other than the amazing food!) I even went home with a jar of their tomato sauce (sugu)! I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for honestly prepared, high quality food .
Having grown up with an Italian nonna in the kitchen, I am very picky about Italian food. This food would make my nonna happy! The polenta with mushroom ragu was outstanding- the tortellone with bolgonese was fabulous as was the carobonara. The zabaglione was the best I have ever had outside of Italy.
Our confirmed reservation time was not honored. We waited at least 25 minutes.
Tables are very close together
Noise level was really uncomfortable
We waited quite a while for any service
Food was generally good. Featured scalloped potatoes are awful
Supervising staff (?owner?) had an "I don't care "attitude". ..... "That's just how it is!"
Overall, the whole dining experience was great. The server was friendly, the food was delicious, and the wine was enjoyable as well. The only small complaint was service was a little slow. We had the burrata special (which was amazing), the pear and arugula salad, the capellini pasta, and the chicken Marsala. All delicious!
Unfortunately we must have gone here on an off night. After reading all the reviews , we thought this would be a perfect spot for Italian food the night before the napa to sonoma 1/2 marathon. We couldn't have been more wrong. We had one of the worst waiters we have ever experienced in 25+ years of dining out. The waiter greeted us right away, read us some (but not all) of the specials, but then walked away without even asking us if we wanted anything to drink! We finally had the ask the bus girl if we could get some bread, water, and someone to take our drink order. In the meantime, our waiter immediately brought bread And water to the table behind us as soon as they sat down. When we finally were able to get his attention, our friend ordered the chicken parm. He was unfortunately informed that they were out of chicken- at 6:45 on a Saturday night! The waiter then mentioned the King salmon special (which he did not mention earlier). The rest of the evening the waiter barely said anything to us, not even asking how our meals were. While the food was good, we would never go back due to the horrible service. There are plenty of other great choices for Italian in Sonoma.
This is a great little Italian restaurant run by an exceptional husband and wife team. We are locals and have never been disappointed. If you want to get away from the chi chi tourist scene, this is your place. Fresh, delicious food, and always lots of specials to choose from as well.
The choices available were numerous yet presented a very balanced menus. Every dish we had was expertly prepared and very tasty. Pastas were great. The main courses were terrific. Well beyond our expectations for food and service. A great neighborhood spot and we will definitely return for more.
in a tourist trap called sonoma with now 37 wine bars around our square ,mama toninos is a neighborhood gem , we love the 5 star food, the staff ,service and not surrounded by foreign drunkenness... gaetano 's food is the best in the valley by far ,and served by his wife and loyal and fun staff...they are a sonoma treasure..
My husband and I were late in booking reservations for our anniversary and could not get into our usual favorite place so decided to give Mamma's a shot. It was worth it! It was far better than the exterior appearance led me to believe. It is in a little strip mall and I walk by it all of the time without a lot of thought. But, the evening we were there, the atmosphere was bustling and fun, the service was amazing and the food was great. Couldn't have asked for better, especially on short notice!
We were in Sonoma for a wedding and had a Friday night on our own. We decided to try Mama Tanino's which was walking distance from our B&B and were delighted to find a really high quality, delicious meal. The menu had many specials and each or our party raved about what they ordered. Yummy!
We have eaten here several times and have always enjoyed our meals. Their "special" polenta with wild mushroom gravy is to die for delicious as is the fillet of sole with lemon and capers. The place is cozy and smallish but the service is good and the owner and his wife are both cook and server, They are also good about substitutions. It is tucked away n a shopping center, sort of hard to find but well worth the effort!
Our server was very good. There were five specials available. We enjoyed a glass of Bennett wine and I had seafood pasta which was tastey. My husband had a sausage pasta dish which he enjoyed. The location of this restaurant is in a strip mall. The food was great with the exception of the cold dry bread that was served with olive oil. It would have been nice to have some warm fresh bread to sop up the juices from the seafood. The restaurant needs a decorating makeover. Something simple but classy and some music since there is no ambience at all. Perhaps hang some black framed photos of Italy with cream coloured mattes in the windows and get rid of the draperies which cover frosted glass. Paint the walls cream to brighten things up and add some black paint for the high ceilings and to disguise pipes. Use table clothes on the tables with glass on top to save laundry bill. Add large framed prints to the walls, plus some lighting on dimmers and red votives on tables.
Authentic Italian cuisine - every bite was mouth watering. The chef just knows how to cook, recipes taste like home but better. The best apple tart I've ever had. Service was excellent - attentive and friendly. Unpretentious decor, comfy seating, casual ambiance. A place for a happy evening eating good food and enjoying good company.
As soon as we arrived we were treated very well. We were seated at a larger table for 2 which was nice, especially since there was a two top next to our table. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Food was delicious. The only negative was the people next to us-they were very loud and we found ourselves shouting to talk.
I have already recommended this to others.
We have lived in Sonoma a little over three years. I think we have tried every restaurant in Sonoma. I believe this restaurant has the best prepared Italian food in all of Sonoma. The seafood pasta was outstanding.. The Bolognese pasta wa amazing. . This little restaurant sits in the corner of a small shooting center next to Sonoma market. You should search it out. Great food.
