Mamma Tanino's Ristorante
w/ calabrese sausage, mushroom and lt.cream sauce
This restaurant is a 15 min walk from the Sonoma square. The price point is pretty good relative to other Sonoma restaurants, but the overall experience was not great. The service was rather indifferent, the wine we ordered had begun to turn bad, and the pasta, while fairly tasty, was not special. There are better options in Sonoma.
I have been eating here for several years. I am always treated like family and the food is delicious. This restaurant is a GEM.
Wow! This is truly a hidden gem...little would anyone know that this little unassuming spot in a strip mall would be such a gormet delight! Fresh seafood...home made pasta...flavorful sauces...Im sad we live so far away. The service...awwww i felt like a guest in the owners home. I love this place so much!
Crowded, inattentive host to greet us on arrival. A table was reserved Menu uninspiring. Food was so-so at best. Tough veal, soggy eggplant all luke warm on arrival. Canoli was great. We were out of town visitors -- will not return.
The veal and eggplant parmigiana dishes were wonderful. It is a favorite of ours as they always have great food and the owners treat you like family.
One of the best in Sonoma. Real food. Authentic dining experience.
Food is awesome! Service great! Owners (one of which is the chef) are so friendly and welcoming. Not a flashy, fancy place but it's simplicity, cleanliness, food, service and owners make it a fabulous experience!
A favorite local restaurant. Never disappointed with the fresh, simple food with such complex flavor. Chef and his wife, who runs front of house, are fabulous!
I love the food. It is always authentic Italian and the owners and staff treat you like family. A true neighborhood gem.
Each pasta dish was prepared to perfection. My kids and I love this place.
They make you feel like part of the family. Welcome you as soon as you open the door
Will be going back soon
While the flavors were decent, the service and ambiance were fair at best.
With a reservation, the hostess endeavored to seat me - I was on my own - at a table for four, right up against the front door, and surrounded by many waiting to be seated: hardly appropriate.
I stood my ground and waited for an appropriate table away from the draughty door and away from the fray. Had to flag down the waitress who was quite attentive to those who had been seated well after me.
Carcioffi alla Romana were flavorful enough, but not a real Carcioffi alla Romana: three rather tiny half-artichokes in the form of a salad for $12.
Bucatini Amatriciana were flavorful, but I sure couldn't have managed a "secondo" after it; very heavy, although the pasta was properly al dente.
I know Sonoma can be pricy but, $60 for a few little artichokes, a plate of pasta, and a couple of glasses of house wine, with less-than-wonderful service (waitress actually perched her backside on my table while taking the order of those next to me), is a bit much: Can't heartily recommend it.
Local and casual place in small shopping center near Sonoma Market.
Recommended to us by locals and very popular among locals.
I always get the fillet of sole - awesome and generous serving, and Caesar salad (great too).
Must book reservations - hard to get into because smaller place, but they do take walk-ins if you are ok sitting by the entrance.
We were visiting Sonoma for another event and thought we would have dinner there afterwards. It happened to be Valentine’s Day and we were able to get a reservation through Open Table.
When we arrived at the restaurant and seated we were told that they were only serving a 4 course fixed price menu for $69.50 per person. There was never any mention of this when making the reservation. Having read the reviews we thought that we should stay as any other restaurant would in all likelihood be full.
Our 1st course was extremely disappointing. It was a piece of crostini no bigger than a half dollar coin with mushrooms. The presentation was not memorable and the server basically tossed the plates in front of us.
For our second course, my wife chose a glass of Prosecco (one of the choices of a second course) as she wasn’t very hungry and I chose the shrimp and leek soup which I liked.
Our main courses were acceptable.
Dessert was average; you can’t mess up Affogato or gelato.
The best part of the meal was the lovely rose they gave my wife for Valentine’s Day!
With all the other Italian restaurants in Sonoma County it’s unlikely I will return to Mama’s!
Always a pleasure to dine here!
Amazing!! Such delicious food!!! Love it all!!!!!!
Staff was incredibly friendly. Appetizers include a mediocre tossed green salad and the baked artichoke special of three halves of Roman-style artichoke hearts (with the stem on). Artichokes were great with baked-on breadcrumb and pine nut stuffing. The dish however was plated on a bed of greens that were swimming in oil and over-salted. Entrees were fish (branzino) that was overcooked to the point of being inedible and veal parmigiana. The veal dish would have been great, with a light breading, tender veal, and just the right amount of melted cheese. Unfortunately this dish was over salted too.
They get points for being so friendly and it looked to me that most people, who appeared to be regulars, ordered the pasta dishes which looked great. I like to frequent neighborhood restaurants, so we will give it another try and go for the pasta.
Love this family and their dedication to their quality restaurant.
Nice family dinner!
In a few words: The best italian restaurant on the West Coast.
Great honest comfort food. Would come back again.
Mama Tanino’s is an amazing Italian experience in Sonoma Valley! Wonderful food and the best service!!!
One of the best meals I've ever had. The food was SO GOOD! Highly recommend everything we got. The bread was fresh baked out of the oven and tasted just like the bread in Italy. The Caesar came with a parmesan crisp and was perfectly dressed. The minestrone soup was amazing-fresh vegetables and a delicious broth. The petralé sole was the best I've ever had. Honestly. The vitello parmigiana (veal parmesan) was epic-mouthwatering, cheesy, perfectly cooked veal, amazing potatoes.
My favorite Italian spot in Sonoma Valley!
Food and owners are delightful.
You must try this place.
True authentic Italian experience. Coming from the northeast with lots of Italian options, its nice to have a go to restaurant that offers good quality authentic Italian cuisine. The wife/owner works the dining room and is always super flexible in offering customizations when able and special requests with some advance notice.
The food was outstanding And the service first rate.
Amazing as always
Nice little neighborhood gem. Food was very good, especially the veal scalopini. Service was excellent. If you are looking for ambiance and a quiet conversation, this is not the place. But if you want a nice meal, by all means you need to come here.
Amazing food and super friendly owner!! Would totally recommend to everyone visiting the area.
Excellent food. We love eating here and have shared it with several of our friends.
Another amazing meal. The BEST Italian food in Sonoma.
The owner gave us a warm greeting immediately when we walked through the door... the service was good.. and the food was fantastic. Would absolutely dine here again!
This is a family owned and run family business. They are excellent in all elements of the food - variety, quality, service and its fun too. It is an authentic Italian culinary experience. have a reservation as the place is small. We recommend them highly.
The food and service were outstanding. We hadn’t eaten here in over a year and were delighted to get back. Even better than we remembered.
The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. Ambiance was nothing special but adequate.
Kimberly is a wonderful front end manager and all the staff members are smiling and
Great waiter and the food was delicious but the ambiance was cheap and not exciting or worth it. Smelled like an old Chinese restaurant.
One of the best eggplant parmigiana these 2 Sicilians have ever eaten! Delicious salad and pasta, too.
Our server Rafael was a delight. Our first visit....but, not our last!
