Mamma Maria Ratings and Reviews
We went to Mamma Maria's for Valentine's Day with relatively high expectations, having seen the high reviews. The food was about average for the North End, which is to say that it was good however it was not exceptional, which was disappointing given the cost and hype. The service was lacking in professionalism and attentiveness. Mamma Maria's may perform better on a non-holiday, however we will not be returning. There are just too many good alternative options, in that neighborhood alone, to go back.
Experience was very nice and had a very wonderful time. The layout of the restaurant is very different compared to other restaurants. The conversion of a colonial house where different rooms were made into dining rooms provides the customer with a different experience. In other words you won’t find yourself in a large, open spaced area. It’s much smaller and makes it more personal. The service provided by our waiter was great. He was friendly and was there to help with anything. The food was DELICIOUS. However the price for 3 drinks, 2 appetizers, 2 dinner platers, and 2 desserts exceeded $200. The ambiance was ok nothing to scream over but it was a very nice place.
We had a great dinning experience at Mama Maria. The food was very authentic and well made. The restaurant was in Boston’s north end and had a cozy ambience, unlike some of the other places in the area. True Italian food, great service. You really get a dinning experience by enjoying conversation and drinks while not being rushed out of the place so they can fill tables. Great place I highly recommend!
Mamma Maria's is always a delight. The sad part is they keep changing the menu so our favorite dish was not on the menu. Also we would have liked a few more pasta options but all that said the food is wonderful and they are very accommodating to special dietary needs.
I am a local resident near Mamma Maria. I have frequented it but I was not happy with my table request being handled. Seating a fifth person at the end of a four top is unacceptable in a restaurant of this level. I requested another table but it went on deaf ears. Having a person squeezed in in the end does not appeal to me. I requested a table in a very good area. I tip very well and when I return to restaurant I expect my requests to be heard. I am very disappointed .
The service was horrible and rude. The dinner came midway through the appetizer and the bread with the olives were cleared and we were asked multiple times if he could clear our appetizer. After the delicious meal, and upon paying the bill, we were asked if we had valet. We Uber’ed so the answer was no. As we were finishing our wine, we were asked by a second gentleman in a suit and tie if we had valet. I’ve never felt so pushed out! After a most delicious meal we were left with a sour taste in our mouths. I understand Friday night’s are busy, but please do not push me out!
When we got to the coat check, they couldn’t find my friend’s coat for the longest time. Do you know why? It’s because it found it’s way to the floor and no one bothered to pick it up and hang it back up!
This is not the first time I have been here but it will probably be the last. The restaurant is beautiful, the food although pricey is wonderful and worth it for a special occasion but Wednesday the service was awful. We felt rushed the entire time. Our waiter made it perfectly clear that he was looking to flip the table. They even went as far as clearing the table while we were sitting there.
My husband and I came here for our 6th anniversary and could not have had a better experience. The staff was attentive and helpful. Food was outstanding and our waiter was able to recommend a wonderful wine pairing as well. We had an overall amazing time and will definitely be back.
This is the place where you want to go to make the evening special. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal in the North End but Mama Maria elevates the experience to extraordinary. It is a high end restaurant without being stuffy or condescending. Truly a one of a kind gem.
Unique environ. Had reservation but waited 30 minute. Graciously offered proseco to sip while we waited. Ordered multiple appetizers which were below average....razed clams cold not in saffron sauce as denoted on menus, Mozzerella came with three small cherry tomatoes and salami/prosciutto platter had one piece of prosciutto the rest bologna. Not worth the price. Pasta dishes very small but the veal shank w/ rissoto delicious and good size portion.
Quaint environment but better Italian available for price point.
What a wonderful restaurant! The ambiance is fantastic and of course the dishes were outstanding. They make a great negroni too. We had the osso buco , the rabbit pasta and bolonese. All were outstanding. Our antipasti was burrata and baked oysters. Again. Fantastic. Wait staff was excellent and knowledgeable helping guide us to dishes and wine. Great location on the north end just past Paul revere house. Definitely will go back there
One of my favorite restaurants, and now a favorite of my four friends, as well! We arrived early, when restaurant opened and were surprised the bar was full already... And, so we were seated before our entire party arrived and had drinks at our table while waiting arrival of our friends. Our appetizers were delicious, especially the baked oysters!! My Bolognese Sauce was outstanding!
All were happy with dinner entrees selected. Dessert was good... I️ had my heart set on panna cotta... lemon or coconut would have been my first choices, and I️ was not thrilled with the cranberry option, and in hind sight should have asked for it without the topping... it was too tart... Next time I’d request it plain... or with another option for topping... All in all, great choice for dinner!
We were very happy and had a delightful evening!!
Food was amazing.
Totally obnoxious diners at the next table ruined the atmosphere for the entire room. They were 3 couples in their 60s who acted more immature than a group of teenagers.
To pay ~ $40 for an entree and cant' hear the person across the table ... wouldn't recommend the restaurant.
The management needs to know how to deal with situations like this.
Noise level wasn't energetic, it was disruptive!
I've been to many restaurants in the North End but we wanted a unique dining experience and that is exactly what we got. All four of us got a different dish and our server was fantastic, knowledgable and spot on. We all said that we don't remember having dishes like these and it made for a memorable experience that was truly a great dining experience. Can't wait for the next special occasion to visit again.
We went to Mamma Maria’s this past Saturday night and just had an outstanding meal. From the time we walked into the door to the time we left. A beautiful atmosphere in our private dining area just above the stairwell, to our waiter , food presentation and delicious flavor combinations. We will definitely make a return visit when we head back to Boston. Bravo!
We celebrated my daughter's birthday at Mamma Maria. It was our first time at the restaurant, but it won't be the last. From the complimentary prosecco (due to the special occasion) to the duck appetizer (perfectly cooked and over the top delicious) to our excellent entrees to our lemon tart dessert, everything was just wonderful. We had a lovely table on the porch on the second floor, overlooking the street and it was a nice, quiet location. Our server was excellent, although the second round of drinks and coffee was a bit tardy. Overall an excellent experience, and we will definitely be back. Thank you to Mamma Maria for a memorable dinner.
