Mamma Maria Ratings and Reviews
One of my favorite restaurants, and now a favorite of my four friends, as well! We arrived early, when restaurant opened and were surprised the bar was full already... And, so we were seated before our entire party arrived and had drinks at our table while waiting arrival of our friends. Our appetizers were delicious, especially the baked oysters!! My Bolognese Sauce was outstanding!
All were happy with dinner entrees selected. Dessert was good... I️ had my heart set on panna cotta... lemon or coconut would have been my first choices, and I️ was not thrilled with the cranberry option, and in hind sight should have asked for it without the topping... it was too tart... Next time I’d request it plain... or with another option for topping... All in all, great choice for dinner!
We were very happy and had a delightful evening!!
Food was amazing.
Totally obnoxious diners at the next table ruined the atmosphere for the entire room. They were 3 couples in their 60s who acted more immature than a group of teenagers.
To pay ~ $40 for an entree and cant' hear the person across the table ... wouldn't recommend the restaurant.
The management needs to know how to deal with situations like this.
Noise level wasn't energetic, it was disruptive!
I've been to many restaurants in the North End but we wanted a unique dining experience and that is exactly what we got. All four of us got a different dish and our server was fantastic, knowledgable and spot on. We all said that we don't remember having dishes like these and it made for a memorable experience that was truly a great dining experience. Can't wait for the next special occasion to visit again.
We went to Mamma Maria’s this past Saturday night and just had an outstanding meal. From the time we walked into the door to the time we left. A beautiful atmosphere in our private dining area just above the stairwell, to our waiter , food presentation and delicious flavor combinations. We will definitely make a return visit when we head back to Boston. Bravo!
We celebrated my daughter's birthday at Mamma Maria. It was our first time at the restaurant, but it won't be the last. From the complimentary prosecco (due to the special occasion) to the duck appetizer (perfectly cooked and over the top delicious) to our excellent entrees to our lemon tart dessert, everything was just wonderful. We had a lovely table on the porch on the second floor, overlooking the street and it was a nice, quiet location. Our server was excellent, although the second round of drinks and coffee was a bit tardy. Overall an excellent experience, and we will definitely be back. Thank you to Mamma Maria for a memorable dinner.
Flew into Boston for a basketball game and we referred by friends to this wonderful Italian restaurant. The North End of Boston is remarkable beautiful, and this authentic restaurant made us want to come back to Boston again soon.
Service was very impressive
Food was five star
We went there for New Year's Eve dinner. Beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere and great food. However, service for the first and second courses was rushed and wine prices were too expensive. Overall we enjoyed our evening and will probably go back again.
We had dinner for 3 on New Year's Eve. Our table was wonderful--perfect for 3--at the end of the enclosed balcony. So we could see down the street through the lovely Christmas lights adorning the outside of the balcony. The food and service were outstanding, and we in no way felt rushed even though the restaurant was completely booked for the evening. Our first time there and it was a big success!
The restaurant was beautiful at night. We sat in the glass enclosed window section for New Year's dinner. Our server was fantastic - so personable and attentive. I can't remember her name but she is from Dublin, Ireland. The food was served beautifully and was delicious. We are from OOT and will definitely return.
Went to Mamma Maria for New Years and it was fantastic. Food was superb and the service was great. Definitely the place to be if you're looking to have a romantic meal. It's pricey but absolutely worth the cost. The portion size was rather ideal. I'd recommend the rib-eye steak with brussel sprouts and fingerling potatoes.
Eight of us went to dinner here two nights ago and it was fabulous! We all had wonderful different meals. If you are looking for good authentic Italian food this is your place. The portions weren’t large they were the perfect size! Starters were great, fresh and well done. The Veal osso buco with risotto was amazing, the steak with new potatoes was cooked perfectly, the pastas were cooked perfectly and full of flavor!! I would definitely recommend!
Although the setting was intimate for a special get together w/friends, I was offended by the carpeting, that I walked on, thinking it had to have been there forever, very dirty.
Our servicer was impersonal, insincere but got the job done.
This restaurant rests on its laurels from days gone by and those laurels have withered.
Food quality average, food preparation average, as the pork entree was sent back for being tough. Our meal ended w/cold cappuccino. Not to return.....
We went to Mama Maria on one of the coldest nights in Boston during the holidays, and were delighted to enter such a warm and inviting space - more like a cozy and beautiful historic home. The service, food and wine were excellent. Our main courses consisted of Osso Buco and Rabbit pasta which we would highly recommend. The atmosphere and decor were superb. We'll definitely go back. Tip - Allow time for a drink before dinner at the bar which is equally inviting and book ahead.
The food is good, but I thought it was very overrated and nowhere near the best north end restaurant as it is purported to be. The menu is limited. The food is definitely good and above average but the overall dining experience is just above average and not a must-go-to north end restaurant.
Mamma Maria was an incredible experience! The hospitality and quality of an Italian home, with the romantic, fine atmosphere of the best. Our food was impeccably crafted for taste and appearance. My wife and I loved it! Our wonderful waiter was incredibly knowledgable about the drinks list as well - which is extensive. They have oodles of wine, brandies, amaros, and other digestifs. Would recommend this restaurant for everything from an engagement dinner to a date to just a nice dinner out with loved ones.
All of my kids were in town for Christmas for the first time in 3 years and we have a tradition of going out to dinner on Dec. 23. None of them live in MA and all wanted to go to the North End and I have never been to this restaurant. Strongly recommended by several friends. Without a doubt , the best restaurant that I have been to in the North End. Food was impeccable, ambiance divine. Service was a little slow, but we were in no rush. Quiet, beautiful, charming, fabulous! Perfect for what we were looking for. Everyone loved it! So memorable! House specialties of Osso Bucco and Lobster Ravioli were amazing!
My husband and I both agreed the staff was outstanding. The waiter we had did a fantastic job. He suggested a wine for us, and when we tasted it, thought it was too sweet, so he immediately replaced it with another recommendation much more to our liking. All the food we ordered was beautiful in presentation and delicious! Will definitely return on our next visit to Boston.
The food was good. We made a reservation several weeks in advance, once seated we ordered wine, appetizers, and then we were told they had reserved that table for another party. We had to move tables, very irritating. We complied, moved to another table, felt rushed all night after that. Our waiter was great, but it was either the managers or proprieter that kept looking over our table all night. I recommend this place because food was good, our waiter was great, but having reservations, etc and having to move tables, and feeling rushed all night I will definitely choose another place before here next time.
