Mamma Maria Ratings and Reviews
Special evening in a special restaurant. We had a late reservation but called and the maitre’d, Mo helped us by letting us come 45 minutes earlier. Mamma Maria is in a brownstone and the dining room is upstairs. Small, cozy and romantic. My husband had the seafood stew and I had the rabbit. Both were outstanding! Our waiter was very helpful choosing the food and took great care of us.
We were in Boston to celebrate my sister’s birthday and went to Mamma Maria for her birthday dinner. Each appetizer & entry was excellent and presentation was beautiful. The duck with black rice and veal osso bucco were exceptional. The service was attentive and friendly and the rooms are picture perfect with a pretty view as we were on the second floor. Coming from NJ we all said it’s worth a ride to come back and dine at Mamma Maria again.
Very intimate and romatic settings. The servers are pretty attentive. Some of the other support staff (like the busboys who fill waters, take away dishes, provide freshly grated cheese , etc.) were a little slow to come around but not a big problem. The food was very good but nothing too special to brag about. Still recommend this place for a nice dinner.
Not very good value for money; more overpriced-than-usual wine list. I alerted restaurant that this was a special birthday for a foreign guest. When I called to confirm reservation I reminded them (they said “yes, we have it in our notes.” ). Nothing was done to add a special touch—no candle, no birthday wish from server... nothing. Not a big deal, but indicative, I thought of the whole experience. Again, not bad, but nothing special.
My husband and I dined at Mamma Maria’s on a Friday night before the Celtics game. We were seated promptly and greeted by our server very shortly thereafter. Our server recommended a wine and was obviously very familiar with the wine list. I have Celiac disease so I asked about gluten free options. Most menu item could be prepared gluten free and they offered gluten free pasta. The food was delicious, the service was great! It was quiet enough in the busy dining room to carry on a conversation. And it’s a 10 minute walk to TD Garden.
Beautiful dining experience, our table was in a private area with a beautiful view of north square. I didn't think the food matched up to how wonderful everything else was (my sisters dinner was cold, my pasta was extremely under cooked even for someone who likes al dente) but overall we had a very nice evening.
Mamma Maria was Very good as usual. Appetizers of Razor Clams and Baked Oysters were both excellent. The main courses we had of Pasta with Rabbit (where you can't find this any place even in the North End) and Sea Bass were really special and worth the trip to the North End any time. Wine list by the glass very reasonable and they added a Black Fig cocktail that was really just perfect for Italian dining. Even more Black Fig was promised for future. Try it, You'll like it!
Visiting Boston for the weekend and picked Momma Maria's after an internet search of the North End restaurants. It had great reviews and we weren't disappointed. We had delicious meals- from the unique starter salad using seasonal vegetables including squash to their signature lobster pasta and bolognese dishes. We had excellent service with our waiter giving helpful recommendations for both food and wine pairings.
This is a special restaurant primarily with gourmet Italian food and a great wine and drink list. Excellent. The only drawback is that the dining areas are a bit small and next to service areas but that is not much of a problem for many. Service was excellent. Expensive, but you do indeed get what you pay for. Great for special occasions.
Had a reservation for 8 pm, restaurant is by reservation only. Walked in at the same time as another couple who also had an 8pm reservation. We were put in a seating area to await our table. At least 4 other groups who came in after us were sat before us, and then we ended up being double sat for one server. Didn't get to our table until 830. Service and food beyond that point were incredible.
This was our first visit to Mamma Maria's. I had heard great things and it did not disappoint. The tomato mozzarella salad was very fresh and delicious. My wife had the steak and I had the bolognese. Both were exceptional. We asked the server for a wine recommendation and she knocked it out of the park. The service was second to none, very friendly without being overbearing or feeling rushed. I cannot wait to return.
