Wonderful food, wonderful service and wonderful wine. Definitely on our list to return to for great food.
Food was really bland, underseasoned, and underwhelming. This restaurant is trying to be a classy fine-dining establishment, but the food is not up to par and ultimately, it’s just tourist Italian.
Thank you for your review. It is a reminder that each and every guest presents new challenges and expectations. You have inspired us to work even harder. Our menu changes daily and each dish is prepared uniquely. Obviously, failures are possible - and clearly we let you down. We will back at it Friday with great new market items for the weekend - including white truffles from Alba and razor clams from Wellfleet. Please reach out at your convenience for a full refund. Happy Thanksgiving!
Every detail was perfect. The food was amazing, the service fantastic. It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed every bite! The apple tart at the end was perfection! Very authentic to what you would find in Italy. Hope to visit this incredible restaurant again one day.
Awesome, pricey but awesome
It was so nice to be there for our anniversary. We sat by the window, with a beautiful view of downtown Boston. Everyone around us was there on anniversaries, and it seemed a little strange in some ways, with 5, 10, and 35 year anniversaries occurring simultaneously in a row that way, something the waiter commented on warmly. But it also added an interesting, yet still subdued, energy to the night. And everything there, from the greeting, to the service, food, drinks, and complimentary anniversary tiramisu, was amazing. Definitely would love to have another major anniversary there some point down the road.
Don't know how we have missed this great place in North End having lived in Boston for years, but I'm so glad we finally found it. Had a lovely date night experience on a Friday, with excellent food (responsible portions), attentive service, but taking a hint when we wanted to linger over dessert. Noise level was low, which is so very welcome. We'll be back !
We've been to Boston twice and visited Mama Maria each time. It's simply the most lovely spot for dinner in Boston's north side. We walk to Mike's Pasteries for dessert afterwards. :-)
Consistently great food, best I’ve had in the North End. Had an early dinner with a friend from out of town whom I haven’t seen in years. We were seated on the second floor, by the window and the ambiance was perfect. Our server Rafael was fantastic and gave great recommendations on the wine and food. We had the grilled calamari and duck for appetizers and the portions were almost entree sized! My friend had the halibut and I chose the lobster agnolotti pasta. They were both so delicious! It’s my 5th visit to the restaurant and looking forward to my next one!
My husband and I spent three days in Boston this past weekend and had our last dinner at Mamma Maria after seeing a matinee theater performance. It was cold and a bit snowy on the walk up from the theater district, but we were warmly welcomed at Mamma Maria. Because we arrived just as the restaurant was opening for the evening, we were alone at first in the dining room on the second floor. Our view overlooked the North Square and the beautiful skyline of Boston. It was really perfect- quiet, cozy and romantic! We both felt like we were back in Europe and it was exactly the ambiance we had hoped for. Our server, Raphael, was friendly, helpful and attentive. Our dinner was absolutely delicious; the grilled calamari and octopus appetizer was perfectly prepared, tender and tasty, and the roasted chicken with lentils was fabulous. We couldn’t pass up the tiramisu...it was heavenly! Wonderful last night in Boston! There are so many wonderful Italian dining options in Boston’s North End, but we would absolutely return to Mamma Maria.
Great service and food was phenomenal! The surprised birthday treat was exceptional! I am very impressed!
We will be back. Great time and food and wine was fabulous
Always one of the most reliable high-end dinner options in North End.
Great North End Italian restaurant. Delicious food, great service, and warm old world ambience. Would highly recommend the burrata, the calamari and any of the pastas, in particular the lobster agnolotti, if it’s available.
The ambiance we have experienced during past visits over the years was not present on this visit. Loud voices and some inappropriate language from a nearby table diminished the experience. We did not complain so we share in the fault. The food served was delicious and the wine choices were excellent. Service was somewhat slow but our waiter was pleasant and attentive when he was actually delivering service.
Fantastic meal! Great service! The Veal Ossobucco was terrific as usual.
Delicious food, great cocktails, and really nice waitstaff. Been to many North End restaurants and this was one of the best. Highly recommend.
Excellent all the way around! First time sitting upstairs. Had a great table by the window that added to the already great ambiance. Service is always top notch. Food is consistently good. The Rabbit Pasta is fantastic! A must try as you can’t get that just anywhere.
If you haven’t stopped here on a dining trip to the North End, then you need to rectify that mistake ASAP!
The food options are non traditional. If you like pig, duck, and fish this is a good option.
Dinner for my birthday... food was amazing as usual, charming atmosphere!
We loved this place! It was recommended by someone at our hotel and it was everything he said it would be and then some. Great place. I highly recommend it.
Great Birthday Dinner
Visiting our son in Boston for a weekend birthday. Mamma Maria was the right place for our dinner celebration. It is a wonderful restaurant experience. The food, the wine, the service is excellent. ¡Enhorabuena!
They did not provide us with the table we had requested despite being regular customers. We have spent several thousands of dollars dining here over the past year. When we arrived they claimed the second floor was closed but at least a dozen patrons were still dining there. Our waiter continually interrupted our conversation during our dinner. This is not the level of service one should expect from a restaurant that charges premium prices. If you want service that reflects what you pay for then go elsewhere. The food is decent but the attitude is worthy of McDonalds. Spend your money on a restaurant that seems grateful for your business, not one that acts as if you’re an imposition. We will not eat here again.
Second visit and another incredible meal. Service professional and attentive.
We absolutely loved our dinner at Mamma Maria! We spent our 1 year anniversary there and they treated us so well.
Delicious way to celebrate her 17 th birthday!
Our waiter was excellent. As we were vegetarians.. they offer a vegetarian menu that for me, was equally as good as the main menu. A very enjoyable experience from beginning to end.
I have already recommended Mamma Maria to friends. Our experience was friendly, efficient and tasty. The food was first class. I had the oysters and mushroom ravioli, it was great. My wife had the Steak, it was very good. We will eat there again next time we are in Boston.
We had heard good things and were not disappointed!!! Our waitress was spectacular, had great recommendations and was excellent. The food was amazing, we had the lobster ravioli and haddock. Both were awesome. We will definitely go back, next time we are in aBoston.
The waiter was very rude. The upstairs was hot. It’s too expensive to have a rude waiter.
Best Italian food in Boston. Charming. Romantic. Glorious.
Fantastic restaurant! All of our dishes were delicious. The salads and pasta were so good. Great for a special occasion!
Great authentic Italian in the North End. Service was great and food recommendations from our waiter were on target.
Amazing on every level from the moment you walk in until you walk out
Superb food, all of our entrees and first courses were delicious, well prepared and concepted. Osso bucco, lobster agnolotti pasta, and the halibut were superb. The Zuppa Inglese desert devine. Wonderfully atmospheric and cozy atmosphere, and nice to visit the North End.
Amazing as always!!
We’ll be back!
Delicious food very friendly ,helpful and knowledgeable staff. Dining in the restaurant few times in the past I never had been seated on the second floor which is very nice and intimate and having vegetarian options makes this restaurant one of my favorite.
I called and specifically asked for a nice table to celebrate my husband's birthday with the family but instead got a table next to the busboy table where they were clanking dishes and things all the time.
Excellent evening out celebrating our wedding anniversary. The service team made the evening feel very special. The food was excellent, the service was excellent, the noise level was a little high, could have been our table, and it was a little pricey...but if you are ready for that, you will have an excellent experience here! Great location too!
Always excellent. Always a pleasure. Few other restaurants like it in Boston.
