Great food with attentive service. During most of the meal, however, we had to shout to make ourselves heard. We were disappointed that such an enjoyable meal was spoiled by our inability to hear each other.
Wonderful experience all around! Great location. Great food.
I have visited Mamma Maria, previously and doubt that I will return. The tables are too close together. It is nearly impossible not to hear the conversations of others if they speak about a whisper. The food is good but not great and is very overpriced. I ordered baked oysters and had to keep removing pieces of shells before I could ingest them. This place is a more of a tourist attraction and since I am a native Bostonian, I have far more appealing restaurants available to me.
This is the second time we have eaten at Mamma Maria's and it was just as great the second time as it was it was the first. Their wine list is excellent and the wait staff is very attentive but not over bearing. My husband had the Bolognese pasta which was delicious and I had the Grouper over Mashed Parsnips, which was also very good. Their prices are very reasonable.....we have no complaints here and will always go back whenever we are in Boston.
Great Italian gem. The menu had both traditional fare and some modern twists. Everything was delicious! The squash blossom with prosciutto and fig was perfect. The flavors were well balanced. They have an extensive wine list. Ended the night with a divine tiramisu. To top it all off, the service was impeccable.
The entire meal experience was amazing. The service was impeccable. The daily menu selections were unique and delicious. The wine list offered great half bottles.
We go every year we are in Boston on vacation. Always consistently delicious, great staff and a neighborhood gem.
I can't decide if the food or the service was the star of our evening. We had a small room for our party of five. We had a wonderful waiter who offered both food and wine recommendations which were percect.
Our second visit to Boston included another visit to Mamma Maria....Absolutely delicious! Attentive, knowledgeable wait staff, lovely atmosphere....a wonderful meal shared with good friends.
A bit pricey but well worth it. My family of 4 still raves about our dinner at Mamma Maria.
Great service. Reservation was on time. Oyster appetizer and Lobster pasta was truly outstanding. Ambience was great. The seating arrangement relative to the tables around us was a little too close. They gave us a WONDERFUL anniversary dessert that was photo worthy!
As a Boston native, I've frequented or sampled restaurants all over the city, especially the North End, ever since childhood. Even though I had heard Mamma Maria was good, I was not prepared for just how very good it proved to be. The attentive but by no means overbearing service and the copious and interesting menu and the meal for four from cocktails through dessert can only be described as outstanding. It is a fine place: you will not be disappointed; you will be pleased you chose it.
Second time here and it was not like the first visit. I understand people like to sit and linger after a meal and the restaurant should take that into consideration when accepting reservations. I made the reservations well in advance. We waited for 30 minutes (not exaggerating!) and management made no accommodation for this. Once we were seated we waited another 10 minutes (again, not exaggerating!) for us to be recognized by any server. When my son politely mentioned that he was not happy with that, our waiter offered a poor excuse. Ok, enough of the down side to our experience. We were here to celebrate my son and he loved the lobster ravioli. I had scallops and they were tasty. The waiter recommended a wine that paired well with my dish. We did not have dessert or coffee. In a city (especially on the north end) full of great restaurants, pick another for a special occasion. No one wants to be disappointed when you are celebrating.
The food was excellent with outstanding service. Manager Mo was exceptionally hospitable. Thanks MO.
Sadly average. We were seated upstairs with a window view within 10 minutes of our reservation time. I think we got a premier seat because we were more dressed up than others. Food was good. I had the pasta with rabbit ~ rabbit was tender but casserole with pasta and sauce was watery and nothing out of the ordinary. DH got the steak which was a better choice but I felt like I should order something “Italian” in an Italian restaurant ~ his was better. Server thought he could get by on charm (well he was good looking) but we wished the waitress who served the table next to us had been our server. She was always anxious to please, showing up with a pepper mill and refilling bread basket ~ neither of which Prince Charming bothered to do.
Tables are close together and conversation is impossible because the room is small and loud. Was it an awful meal? No. But with all the others to choose from, I’d give this one a pass
Exceptional experience for our anniversary. Perfect in every way. We will be back again!
The first-floor dining room was packed with too many tables and was very noisy on a Saturday evening. All I could hear was the man at the next table shouting over the din to his companions. The service was intrusive, interrupting conversations to pour a glass of water. The wine list was very good but the food, while well-prepared, was not especially noteworthy.
This restaurant is amazing! I took my boyfriend there for his birthday and it is now our favorite place to eat in the north end! When I booked the reservation online I put birthday down for the special occasion, and they gave us a window seat on the second floor with a great view, and brought out tiramisu and a candle with a plate that had happy birthday written in cinnamon sugar on it! I didn't even request it, and yet they made they night so special. Our waiter was wonderful and attentive, and the food was even better. I would highly recommend this place to anything looking for some delicious Italian food.
Everything we ate was delicious. The service was very good as well we came for our anniversary and they gave us complimentary dessert and prosecco which was incredibly nice! We will definitely be back next year!
A lovely experience. An exquisite dinner with family.
Very nice dinner....Emer was very attentive and did a good job for us. Wine list is exhaustive and good. We shared Osso Buco and it was melt in your mouth good.
Service was exceptional. While they did over cook my dinner it was still delicious.
The Osso Bucco was outstanding
The Tuna not as outstanding, according to my husband you should not get Tuna at an Italian restaurant.
The service was slow are first: I had to ask for water and bread. Once the server got rolling, though, she was great. The food was incredible!
Excellent dining experience! Local ingredients added a special flare to each part of our meal. Loved that it was in a historical area! A must!
We dined with a large group- the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing - fresh, homemade pasta. Will definitely return if we are in the North End again.
The food was excellent. We started with the crudo duet and the heirloom tomatoes. Both dishes were fresh and the tomatoes were so yummy in season! We had the summer ravioli which was stuffed with corn and ricotta, it was simple but really helped the summer flavors shine. We also had the lobster agnolotti with chanterelle mushrooms and asparagus. The lobster had a little too much celery with it but otherwise it was perfectly delicious. We then had the Rabbit pappardelle which was great too. You really can't go wrong with the pasta dishes here. We ended our evening with the baked apple tart and it was sooo yummy. Not too sweet, a nice tender apple with this amazingly fluffy puff pastry! I highly recommend this place.
Wonderful food and evening. Our server (Rafael) was great.
Our favorite North End restaurant. The welcome was warm, and the service impeccable. Enjoyed appetizers and pasta dishes, all different...flavorful and creative, especially house made ravioli and zucchini flower with fig. Veal ossobuco tender and delicious. Only drawback: Small room meant that conversation was difficult. We will always dine here at least once when visiting Boston because the food is sensational.
We took a guest that was visiting from our India office for dinner. We wanted to ensure that she had the North End experience and Mamma Maria's did not disappoint. The food is always good and this time was no exception. Our wait staff was attentive without being over the top. The overall experience was terrific!
Great place to eat!
Sever wasn’t good had a reservation and still had to wait 15 to 25 minutes and our reservation was at 915 the sever filled some of the girls wine but we had to ask for our water to be filled
This was a bachelorette dinner and we couldn’t wait to go to the next place
Outstanding, as usual. Dorina was our waiter, and she is real good.
The food was fantastic. A friend recommended your restaurant and we will come back every time we are in Boston
I love this restaurant so much I got married there.
Wait staff attentive and knowledgeable. The summer ravioli was delicious.
Met a friend for a drink. Stayed for dinner. Great waitstaff, knowledgeable, friendly, efficient. Very good food, good presentation, came very hot, which Is important to us. Didn't rush us at all, had valet parking. which is rare in North End.
Old school restaurant experience. The wait staff is very professional. The food is quite good, although on the expensive side. Many gluten free options if you need that
From start to finish the experience at Mamma Maria was outstanding. The food was absolutely divine! Without a doubt one of the best meals we have had in years.
