Place lived up to the hype. Our dinner was outstanding. Really exceeded our expectations. One of the better meals we have ever had. Location was also great for walking afterwards. Enjoyed every aspect of our meal. Without a doubt a 5 star experience.
Good food, very good service distinctive plates beyond the typical Italian menu. A special menu just for vegetarians that was very delicious
We came for the restaurant week dinner special. We will come back early and often. It would be difficult to add superlatives to the well-deserved lofty tradition- except to say that we were made to feel “at home” on a first visit and the value was outstanding. Thank you for the perfect experience. Sets the standard that we wish others could follow.
Nice table near the front with a lovely view over the square. Dine Out Boston week menu was superb- a nice surprise sine other North End restaurants aren’t always so generous. Outstanding meal. And the waitress remembered us from another restaurant. Nice touch.
We made reservations as part of Dine Out Boston and now look forward to returning. Our meals were very nicely prepared and most importantly— delicious! Service was well timed, and came with pleasant conversation.
Awesome food. They were extraordinarily accommodating to both our time and party size which was very last minute. Everyone truly enjoyed their meal-the lobster ravioli was great! Highly recommended and can’t wait to go back
Food was delightful. Service was exceptional. Ambiance was ruined by an extremely loud drunk obnoxious family of four from Philly. Looking around the room, we were not the only party offended by their vulgarities.
Mamma Maria is known as a special occasion place and deservedly so. However, not addressing unruly guests ruins the special occasion.
I may seek elsewhere for my next special evening out.
I only recommend this restaurant if you go knowing you may be stuck with unruly diners.
WE HAVE CONSISTENTLY VISITED YOUR RESAURANT AT LEAST 4 TIMES PER YEAR FOR DECADES, AND THE VALUE, QUALITY, SERVICE, ETC. HAS ALWAYS BEEN FIRST RATE. YOU HAVE A GEM. NEAL SATRAN
The food was fantastic. However, there is no space in the place. Tables are all on top of each other. There is only 1 bathroom with 1 person occupancy so all the tables that are already bumping into each other are glaring at each other for their chance at the bathroom. You cannot hear the person across from you so unless you want to scream all night you can be silent all dinner. Even getting in and out of the place is the smallest hallway possible. The foods just ultimately not worth the trouble.
Our family dines at Mamma Maria’s a few times a year for the past decade and it has always been a great evening for us and our guests. We typically celebrate birthdays there and the staff is friendly and attentive. The menu is not overwhelming while providing selections that cover the range of interests anyone could expect in a North End Italian restaurants. The ambience is comfortable especially in the smaller more private rooms.
This recent visit we were celebrating my wife’s birthday and we were seated in the main dining room in the second floor. The waiter was exceptional covering many tables yet leaving no one unattended. The noise level, though, was unbearable due to a lively table of guests within the dining area who were enjoying each other’s company and perhaps over indulging in the excellent wine list. This persisted in excess of 30 minutes, and I observed all the tables nearby being disturbed by the noise level, yet the loud table continued to laugh and shout to each other as their volume prevented normal table manner conversation amongst themselves as well as the other table in the dining room. At one point my son covered his ears and asked us if he could ask the loud table to be quiet. Eventually the staff did speak with the loud table and simmered their conversation to a duller roar, not without their pointing of fingers to attempt to locate the table that might have complained.
Overall, we enjoyed the food, the service, and our time together, but we were truly disappointed with the noise level. It would have been nice if others respected their conversation volume, and if the restaurant acted more swiftly to resolve the unacceptable shouting and noise volume, so that all of the diners could enjoy their moments together.
incredible as always. the staff works so well ot is clear there is great leadership
Our visit was for dinner during restaurant week. When we arrived, 5 minutes before our reservation, we were met with a very rude and unfriendly host. His reaction to us was with annoyance for even bothering him. Although the food and service from our waiter was great, the interaction with this host really set the tone for the evening for us. That being said, I will not be going back unfortunately.
Just amazing. Even the grated cheese guy knew that I shouldn't put the parm on my lobster ravioli because it would make it too salty. So knowledgeable.
Food is always great here. Still the best Ossobucco I’ve had. Our server was amazing. One of my best restaurants in Boston.
Always love going to Mamma Maria. Food and service never disappoint me. One minor thing is bread. It gets so hard when it is cold.
Amazing food! Friendly staff. Attentive. It's on an old house so not accessible for everyone. Menu was diverse. Foods tasted amazing.
The server was excellent, the food amazing and the dining intimate.
Unique, intimate atmosphere. Excellent food, wine and service.
The team there is amazing
They make you feel extra important while also familiarity.
Parents in town
Great food and wonderful service.
This was our second visit and it was for Valentine's Day weekend. We made a last-minute change to the time of our reservation and were seated in a deuce kind of in a busy corridor. However, our server did such a good job that this was never an issue.
We started with an appetizer of razor clams which we have never had before. They were interesting and well-prepared both of us enjoyed them. For entrees my partner had halibut which was prepared perfectly and the best prepared halibut ever tasted. I had a pasta dish with clams and scallops which was magnificent as well. Clearly the talent in the kitchen is well above the mark.
The service recognize that it's a special occasion to be there and treated us accordingly. Every request we made was promptly attended to graciously.
We hope to be back often as this is one of our favorite places to dine in Boston.
Mama Maria is wonderful. Went on Valentine's Day and the menu, service, and decor were fantastic. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Great Valentines Dinner
Visited for Valentine’s Day and had a wonderful experience. Each dish was delicious and timed perfectly, (especially for one of the busiest nights of the year) and the staff was very friendly and attentive. Will definitely return and recommend!
Great service, food, and beverages. A little expensive for the quantity of food, but food was well presented, flavorful, and fresh. Romantic ambiance.
Our Valentines Day was wonderful here, and we look forward to continuing to celebrate it here for many more years to come!
Great food and experience!
Amazing service would recommend highly.
Great spot! The service was excellent- I took a lot of the waiter’s recommendations and he did not disappoint. The rabbit and pasta con sugo were excellent. The portions were perfect enough for two to have the complimentary bread, a starter, two entrees, and a dessert.
Just great nothing else needs to be said.
I fell in love again.
Wonderful dining experience. If I could award more that 5 stars I certainly would. Service was impeccable. Our waiter Rafael was a delight. Professional, friendly and charming. All of the other staff from the host to busser were equally top-notch.
We were visiting Boston with friends and each had different entrees. All were divine. There aren't enough superlatives to describe just how delicious everything was.
We last visited Boston 15 years ago and dined at Mamma Maria's. We're so happy we returned on this trip and we will make a must-do on our next visits.
Birthday. It was the best place.
We received a gift card for Christmas to this restaurant and we were thrilled with our experience. The food was the best we have had in a long time. We ordered the rabbit pasta, the carpaccio, the tiramisu and the panna cotta. Everything was five stars! We had a delightful bottle of red wine, and cappuccino. Our friends ordered the Ossobucco and they were also delighted. They had the fig and olives for an appetizer and loved every bite. Our service, the ambiance, the quality of the food, all excellent. The noise level is loud when the room fills up, but we were against a wall so it was manageable. The wait time between courses was especially appreciated when you are spending top dollar for a meal. In all we would go back in a heartbeat!
Had dinner with family. Menu is seasonal, something for everyone. Service was good, the food was fresh, particularly the seafoods. I ordered the Lamb and the toasted surface was amazing. We highly recommend it.
A perfect 3 hour dinner (two couples). Service was impeccable. From appetizer to dessert everything was wonderful. Ambiance and low noise level (must have sound absorbing walls) is very conducive to relaxed conversations. The best night out I have had in a long time!
The service, food & noise level were all top notch. We sat upstairs & had a nice view. I would recommend this restaurant to friends.
Amazing food and service! We will be back! The pesto was phenomenal!
From the reception to the waitstaff we were very pleased with the attention and the suggestions on the food and wine. Everything was spectacular!
