My first visit. Nice neighborhood restaurant away from the crush of tourists. Very attentive service. Carnitas, margaritas and guacamole were excellent. Massive menu selection and they will do anything you ask. Looking for Mexican / Latin fare? This is a very good choice.
Good queso dip and chimichangas. Food was good overall and service was prompt. Owner checked on us several times during meal.
Welcoming... friendly...good food...good drinks. Will be coming back soon 😁
Small lively place with a lot to look at in the Mexican tradition. The menu rivals the size of a diner which means there’s so much to choose from. So far we’ve been twice and both times the food was really great. Had the Cha Cha Manga which was a surprise. Although my friend’s mole sauce was too much on the chocolate side. Best part was the friendly service. Even the owner would stop by and make sure we were okay. Would definitely go back again.
The food came out too fast and didn't taste fresh, very disappointed. Wish I can get my money back
A warning, I am very critical of Mexican food. It is my favorite food, and I have had authentic, excellent Mexican food in the past.
The food was decent, but it lacked flavor. There are certain spices and flavors expected in Mexican food, and it just was not there. However, the food was fresh, and they do not use animal fats or lards to prepare. As far as the margaritas, they are mediocre at best. They did not contain a lot of alcohol. Not that you need to get blasted off of one drink, but the taste and kick of taquila is vital to a margarita. Very small restaurant, and the bar is right next to the dining room so it is extremely loud. I am not even going to get into the waitress, I own a business, and I realize how hard it is to hire really good people. Tip is included. But after my credit card was run, the itemized receipt was not given back so if you didn't read it on the bottom of the menu you would tip twice. PRETTY SLICK!
Overall, if you don't care about the Mexican food you eat, or if your experience with Mexican food is Taco Bell, than you will really enjoy this place.
We were given the standard lunch menu during brunch time. We didn't realize there was even a brunch menu. The food was severely overpriced for both the quality and quantity of food we ate. Better off at an upscale Mexican restaurant with those prices...
Had a delicious dinner with friends this week. The place could use a little makeover, but the food and service was excellent..
First time visiting this restaurant. Wonderful service, exceptional food, especially liked the selection of margaritas. Owner and wait staff very attentive, courteous, went over and above to make for a great experience. Definitely will be back next time visiting NYC. Recommend all to give it a try!
Great family owned place in a convenient location. If you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to try it!
Food was super quick- almost too quick to think it was “made to order”. It was average Mexican but ingredients all seemed fresh. It was very busy when we went and they do a good job of turning over the tables effectively.
Our family had a wonderful meal in this family owned restaurant. The food was delicious and the service great.
HORRIBLE!!!! Margaritas looked nothing like the pictures on the site and they taste horrible. I had reservations for 6 and we ask for some napkins and we received two napkins. We then asked could we get more we were handed three more. We ended up just tearing them in half. I had a steak quesadilla which was really tiny for 18 bucks. Our bill came up to 224 with Gratuity included. We put 75 in cash and the cards should be charged 37.25 each. Instead we all got charged 56 dollars like we didn’t give cash. So now I’m 93 dollars in the hole until I can get my 56 back! NEVER AGAIN!! Please don’t waste your time!
A great find lots of delicious vegan options awesome friendly service and a killeelr margarita.. my friends said non vegan food was also outstanding. You can't wrong here.
Margaritas were great. Food was fresh and good. A tad pricey, but considering everything along with the atmosphere, worth it.
Being from TX I was disappointed in this place. I trusted Google review of it being a 4.5 and it definitely was nowhere near that.
Excellent food, so deliciously tasty!!!
A little pet peeve of mine, the restroom was what can I say . . .
Mediocre overpriced food. Service was the only thing that was decent. Frozen Margarita’s not very good and they overcharged my group of five. Bill was $480 which was crazy to begin with with happy hour included. They charged us 3x over the bill on each credit card. Which was insane. Over 30 years of experience they claim and you don’t know how to spit a bill? Never will go back.
Good food. Lots of vegetarians options! The waitress could be friendlier.
We were a large group that each had 1 drink, we shared quacamole and chips and each got one main course and it was $58 per person with tip. With entrees averaging ~$20 (most of us had combinations), that means 1 drink and shared app was ~$30 per person extra? Pricy. That said, the meal and drinks were good.
What a lovely surprise! We were looking for a reasonable place to eat near Ars Nova and were so happy to discover this delicious gem. The service and food were superb! The cheese chili rellenos were awesome.
Great section of flavored Margaritas; the guacamole & salsa and chips were fresh and delicious. the
Beef flautas were had great flavor. The the enchilada and the chimichanga were generous portion size and the tres leches is a must try. The service was excellent. The staff was attentive as well as the owner. Would definitely be back. Thank you!
Delicious food and wonderful service! I’ll be back and will recommend to others. We had a party of 8 and had a terrific experience!
Very friendly and pleasant place.. great food.. will be back soon.
We booked a table for 3 atn7:30 pm using Opentable on a Friday night and waited 49 min before leaving. Host told us that last weekend another group had to wait 1 hour. Host was not good at managing expectations or providing legitimate reservation times. Did not have chance to try the food.
The staff was extremely outgoing. Our party of 7 fully enjoyed the dining experience as both the food and the service was great. When we return to NYC we will definitely go back!
This is one of my favorite places. The food is excellent and the owners and staff are very friendly. A nice place to have a margarita and a meal.
We randomly found this spot online and loved the food and service! The owner was friendly and made us grilled jalapeños on request! The drinks were great and strong! Overall a great place to eat!!
The food was amazing!!! Great prices too. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
Tight quarters but good food. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
They were understaffed and our bill was close to $300 with guac as an appetizer and 4 entrees. My friend’s taco salad with steak was $30 dollars. It came out and had a garnish of field greens with a small portion of steak. I’ve had side salads that are bigger. We had to get her another meal at our next stop.
Guacamole was quite average or below average for a mexican restaurant. Inwould rate food as slightly above average
Awesome food and great staff. I will definitely be back!!
Wow! I read the great reviews and that's how I selected the restaurant but I really did not think it could be as outstanding as it was. When we first walked in, I admit that I was disappointed by the basic decor but the service and the food was better than any Mexican food that I have ever had before. Not kidding-it was fantastic! My friends agreed and we will return. A special note about the host: He was so welcoming and delightful.
We absolutely love this restaurant. This was our third time there! Everything is extremely fresh and savory!
The food was great. The variety of margarita’s was mind-blowing. And everything tasted wonderful. The owner was also very charming. I had a great night out with my friends!
Amazing food, amazing service! We highly recommend it! For food, we had the tacos al carbon, chicken chipotle soup, and beef tacos, and it was all amazing! For drinks, we went with margaritas (of course), and we were blown away! We are from Oklahoma and visit Texas a lot, and the margaritas were some of the best (if not the best) we’ve had! Highly recommend.
Service was great and food was excellent. Definitely will go back.
We were seeking Mexican within reasonable proximity to Lincoln Center, and Mamasita seemed appealing. So we reserved a table, but the restaurant didn't have our name on the list. Still, the owners -- a tiny, helpful, rolly polly couple -- promised to get us in & out in time for our show that evening. They gave us the tightest spot for 2 in the joint, and my wife had literally no room to move, but somehow we managed. She had a quesadilla that she enjoyed, and I tried a spinach burrito / cheese enchilada combo. Topped with a spicy red chile sauce, it was quite good, as was the Mexican rice, although the beans -- a cross between refried and whole -- were flat tasting. The kitchen came through in plenty of time for us to make our Lincoln Center show, and we survived the ridiculously tight seating arrangement. But the food was just average to slightly above average, although moderately priced, certainly not worthy of luring us back any time soon, let alone being memorable.
really good food!!! Also the service was excellent!! The owner was on site making sure everything was good. Very impressed.
