Mama's Meatball Ratings and Reviews
Great Italian food. Although we don’t live around SLO, we visit the area a few times a year. Mama’s Meatball is always one of our favorite places to eat. Their homemade meatballs are one of our favorites. The service is prompt, friendly, and frequent enough to see to our needs. Good beverages as well. We’ve sampled lemonade to coffee to wines. Love them all. The whole staff make their patrons feel welcome and quite satisfied with th entire dining experience. It’s not a large restaurant, and is often very busy, even on weeknights. Reservations are a good idea. (We use Open Table) I highly recommend this place for a great Italian meal.
From the moment we walked in, Mama's was so accommodating! We were greeted with a friendly smile and seated promptly. Had reservations for Christmas Eve and could see why we needed them. The place seemed packed so smart move by us! Once seated, our waitress was sweet and took our order quickly. We ordered two simple classics, the sketti and meatballs and Oglio pasta! Both were made with perfection. The flavor of the meatsauce in the sketti was rich and full of flavor. Very filling. The oglio was perfectly done aldente and just the right amount of garlic. My only complaint was, I wished I had more...lol! We also got the little bread balls and those were so buttery topped with that good ole garlic flavor. Over, our experience was perfect! As you can see, Christmas Eve dinner was perfect and just right!
Our reservation was at 7:30 pm and when we arrived there were guests standing in the dining area waiting to pay as the credit card computer system was down. A no guests with reservations were allowed to be seated were left standing for 30 minutes or so with no restaurant host informing guests of the problem. No restaurant host apologized for the inconvenience or gave an explanation. Our party of 4 were sat at the very back of the restaurant in an unlit area even though various other tables were available. When we asked the male (bald) host to change the table he appeared inconvenienced by our request.
Overall our waitress was very nice and professional. The rose wine was very bad. We are unsure if all guests are treated with this type of service but it was truly unfortunate.
The Spaghetti Carbonara and the beet salad were outstanding. Travis, our waitperson was unbelievably helpful. The very sorbet could have been more flavorful, berry it was still quite satisfactory after a great meal. We love Mama’s Metball—long may it delight the palates of SLOtown!
We always return to Mama's Meatball. We have been there 5 times in the last 2 years even though we live 5 hours away. With all the new construction it is harder to find, but just follow the scent of the wonderfully cooked food and you will arrive on their doorstep. We are hoping to return sooner than later. This time we missed out server, Patrick, who retired. iLARIOwas still very entertaining. Great dinner.
Big G and little t
We went here on a friend's recommendation. The restaurant name brought to mind a more casual, value priced place., but i spent almost twice what i was expecting. The penne pescatore was delicious, as was my wife's rigatoni with meat sauce. The wine by the glass is priced by the half-glass for $6+, too expensive for me. No craft beer available.
