About Mama's Fish House
Mama's Fish House is a converted beach house in a coconut grove on a secluded white sand beach. Inside, hinged windows open to let in the trade winds and Polynesian artifacts and original oil paintings decorate tropical hardwood walls. The rooms are filled with spectacular flower arrangements and tapa print cloths cover the tables. Outdoor dining is equally exciting, and everyone enjoys watching the windsurfers performing offshore.

Mama's Fish House Ratings and Reviews
Mama's fresh fish dishes never disappoint!
We started with plantation punch for me and a Mai Tai for my husband. Our server brought freshly baked bread and a taste of tomato bisque. I continued with the Maui onion soup; my husband had the hearts of romaine salad with Bleu cheese. We were both very happy. We switched to a dry rose with our entrees. I had the opakapaka with crispy skin and it was perfectly cooked. The accompanying sides were delicious (baby book choy) and interesting (purple sweet potatoes). He had the Traditional Hawaiian (iskand wild boar cooked in banana leaf, with mahi mahi and traditional sides). We both enjoyed our entrees. Only problem was we had no room for dessert! Because it was our anniversary, our server brought us a mini cheesecake to share while we finished our wine.
It was a wonderful way to celebrate!
Awesome experience. Very interesting decor and ambiance. Food left a little something to be desired but still very good quality. Maybe if you’re a fish connoisseur you’d appreciate the intricacies of the dishes, but some to us were lacking in flavor. I loved the Traditional Hawaiian sampler platter, but my wife was unimpressed by the Opakapaka & garlic dish. Out waiter, Tim, was superb — funny, knowledgeable and helpful in sorting through the menu. Creme brûlée was a winner for dessert.
The receptionists were neutral, not real friendly. It was nearly 9 PM on a relatively quiet night and I waited nearly 10 minutes to be seated, one person. Employees were walking around with blank looks on their faces, didn't seem particularly happy. My server was pretty good and nice, but it didn't feel genuine. I had the shrimp entrée and it was terrible. The boar side dish was pretty good. The drink was pretty good as well
I have driven by Mammas on my last 2 visits to Maui. Not knowing much about the restaurant. This trip I was on the Island for 1 week and thought I would like to try it. I made a reservation on line and when I arrived I caught a beautiful sunset and then had one of the most incredible meals! I enjoyed it so much that I had dinner there again 2 days later! Thank you Mamma for 2 dinners that were simply amazing. I have to leave but you will definitely see me again on my next visit!!! Mahalo!
The food was excellent. For Maui, which has numerous excellent fresh fish restaurants, I think it's the ambiance that is the biggest draw. We live here & have found numerous restaurants in Kihei which prepare fresh fish at a much more reasonable cost & fun atmosphere. Mama's has become sort of a bucket list restaurant. For the average family on Maui there are much better options & mostly this appeared to be a wealthy clientele. The service was friendly & all locals, so Mama's is a source of income for locals who work there which is a win for Paia. We thought we'd share a meal & share an appetizer but it needed a dessert to fill us up.
The food was good but not exquisite for $60 entrees. The mushroom soup starter sent from the chef was amazing. I liked my stuffed Mahi-mahi and the hubs enjoyed the curry, which he felt was a bit heavy. The place was loud so if that’s an issue maybe request specific seating and the drinks were Delicious! Server was a bit too bubbly but very nice and helpful.
This place is nothing shy of amazing!!! If you are on the North Shore or close by you have to go here. My husband had the Ahi Tuna and I had the lobster stuffed Mahi-mahi (sorry for the bad spelling lol). We had the Octopus appetizer and it was beautiful in look and taste/texture. My husband and I had an amazing time on our anniversary there. Come early so you can look around the grounds. It would be a shame to have to rush out of this place. We want to give a huge shout out to our server. He was instrumental in helping us choose exactly what we were looking for. His extensive knowledge of the menu was impressive. Thank you for a wonderful experience Mama’s Fish House.
We went to Mama's for a birthday lunch, and the service was excellent. Alexa was fun, professional, engaged, informative and attentive. Fish was fresh and delicious. Cocktails and wine prices were steep, as well as the food, particularly for lunch. The location is gorgeous, as is the restaurant itself. After a $180 lunch for two - 2 mains + 2 glasses of wine - we probably won't return, but I'm glad we went, particularly on a beautiful day. Definitely worth a visit for a special occasion.
The ambiance was excellent. Food and service outstanding. I really loved the decor. They print a new menu daily, preparing seafood based on what was freshly caught that day. I had baked Maui Maui stuffed with lobster and it was outstanding. My partner had the Bouillabaise and it was very good, broth incredible. Highly recommend this place!
My favorite restaurant! Been coming back since 1980. Their signature dish of a perfectly cooked Mahi-mahi stuffed with crab and lobster on top is out of this world... and no one can top the sweet Maui onion soup. If you have never been there go at lunch time and see the absolutely beautiful setting that this restaurant is located. Look right out the open air Hawaiian dining room at the big waves where kite surfers are doing their thing. This should be in everybody’s bucket list.
I live ten minutes from Mama's but dine here only two or three times a year because it is expensive. Mama's is what everyone thinks a restaurant in Hawaii should be.....wonderful food while looking 50 yards of beach to see waves crashing against the reef. The fish is always superb. The menu tells you who caught it and where it was caught. That's fresh! For that very special occasion on Maui when you're willing to spend the $, don't miss Mama's Fish House.
