Mamajuana Cafe Queens Ratings and Reviews
I had heard good things about this place so I decided to try it out and made dinner reservations to celebrate my husband's birthday along with my kids. First off there is no available parking close to the place... and I drove about an hr from where I live...second, once in the location I was not greeted properly by the hostess. I let her know I had made reservations ahead of time and she did not bother to even ask for my name then she tried sitting me next to a table where hookah was being smoked and neither I or my husband where ok with that being that we had our kids and we are both non smokers. I asked the hostess to sit somewhere else and her response was that other tables where reserved for a larger party yet there was plenty of available tables and was thinking to myself why I even bothered for a reservation if I couldn't even pick where to sit??? The hostess still sat us on opposite sides of where the people where smoking the hookah.... the only thing I give credit to this place is the food... but terrible service with the hostesss they got there....
The place looks very nice. Nice that I have a choice to sit in or outside. Nice that I can go dance after dinner or watch a live performance. But the food was not fresh and over cooked. So disappointed. The only thing I recommend is the mama sushi. It was delicious. And the drinks aren't good but they are strong. Filled with different types of people. It's a place for a little of everything. Wished the food and drinks were better. Not in a rush to return but might check out a performance.
I liked the food but I cannot recommend this restaurant because it was just too much unnecessary noise. They could had lowered the volume of the speakers, but they choose not to. We couldn't talk and we could hardly communicate with our waiter, who was very nice, so we pointed at what we wanted. The place was not crowded for a Friday night. We asked to change tables because we were under a speaker - other tables were not much different. Why I wander they don't want to control the noise? I read other reviews and they talked about the noise but I didn't think it was THAT bad! Don't they want our business?
This restaurant is so overrated! I have had better Latin food. Music was so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves. Even the waitress had a hard time taking our orders. They also said that they had valet parking no one to be found. Had to park two blocks away.
Restaurant was great only thing that upset me after spending over $300 was that we asked about the night club they also had n they told us you need to step out n go around ok so we got to the club and we also paid $20 per 7 people really? Wen I told some friends at work they told me we didn't have to pay to go in we Could use the dinner receipt or something, y didn't anyone tell us after asking them about the club??
Julien which was our waiter was very rude are sarcastic. Our bill was high enough that the tip was included in it. We left the entire amount due including the change because we wanted it to be even and not get any change back. The change was about 60 cents. When we left it julien said "you crazy I don't want that" "you guys need it more then I do" and left it on our table.
It was my sisters birthday. There was a buffet style serving. The buffet had breakfast and lunch dishes. Our reservation was at noon. The DJ. Was playing music, everyone seem to be enjoying it. Lucky we made our reservation for an early time. The restaurant was really getting busy by the time we left at about 2:30 pm. Price was reasonable, included food and drinks. We had mimosas and rum punch.
Food was fabulous and delicious but the music was too loud. My hubby and I had to scream to hear each other.
We also didn't like the fact that we were seated next to the dinner party where all the hookahs were being smoked-they need to have a separate section for those who don't want to be surrounded by the smoke (not healthy!)
I was utterly disappointed; with the fact the entire restaurant was empty, anyone who came in, the host attempted to seat directly next to our table; even the customer wanted a different seat. The Food was very bland & COLD. I , both my husband & my mixed drinks tasted like watered down milk. This place is beyond over priced & the nerve they have to ADD 17% tip without allowing you to add what you wish yourself, is tacky, esp for TWO customers...we were not a table of 6+! We should be able to tip based off of food & service.
I would never recommend this place to anyone, save your money & go to your local latin fare spot for 20% of the cost for better quality food.
OVERALL IT WAS A NICE A NICE PLACE, I'VE HEARD NICE THINGS, HOWEVER I FOUND THE FOOD TO ONLY BE OK IT WASN'T MIND BLOWING. I FELT LIKE MY FOOD WAS COLD AND IT DIDNT HAVE MUCH FLAVOR. MY MASHED POTATOES WERE COLD AND HARD. I WOULD TRY THIS PLACE AGAIN BUT MAYBE THE ONE UPTOWN IN MANHATTAN.
This place was awesome. I chose mamajuana because I wanted to celebrate my birthday with my work friends and I'm the only person who lives In Manhattan. I was skeptical because I know all my Manhattan brunch places like the back of my hand. This place was so much fun. Buffett style brunch was hot and delish! The music was fun and the Sangria Mimosas were to die. Even after brunch was done while we waited to pay the waiter brought us more drinks until we left. This place is fun and high energy. Pleasantly surprised and look forward to coming again!
