Mama Mia - 44sw
Blocks from the Theatre District, Mama Mia 44sw is considered the Best Family Owned Italian Restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. Whether your from the neighborhood, a tourist, or theatre-goer this is a hidden gem certain to delight you!
We are consistently rated 4 to 5-Stars across the board!!!
The food was average at best. Service was fine. But would not go back.
Waited 45 minutes for average Chicken Marsala. I would not recommend and I will not go back.
Our favorite theatre district restaurant. We go there about twice a year. Never disappointed.
I love the service, atmosphere, and the owners. The owners are always on location and take an active role to ensure that everything is perfect.
Lovely restaurant, good entrees and appetizers. Well located for the theatre crowd.
The restaurant is warm and friendly. I have been there many times. I do take family and friends there since the food is very good, and it is reasonably priced for a NYC restaurant. They do accommodate special diets which is also good.
Had a wonderful brunch at Mama Mia's! We visit New York City a few times a year for the day and we always try to eat here for either brunch or dinner. The food and service is always good. This time we both had the Eggs Sardou which came with home fried potatoes, fresh muffins, and Bellinis. They have both inside and outdoor eating and are near the Theater District.
Earlier than our reservation but they seated us immediately. Wonderful food as always
We ordered the meal. I ordered Lasagne they said it would be 20 minutes to prepare it fresh. When I got it it was just warm, so I sent it back. 10 minutes later it came back and the pasta was hot but the meat was hardly warm .I couldn’t be bothered to send it back again so I left it. My wife by this time had finished her meal . all in all very poor.
The chicken parm was very good.Visited Mama Mia before theater Saturday night. Big mistake! Too busy! Pressure to order fast and eat fast. Didn't even have time for a glass of wine . Or an appetizer or dessert. However, will try again when not on way to theater. Was not a relaxing meal. Staff was excellent and patient under much pressure.
The food at Mamma Mia’s is beyond delicious!! We have been there 5 times now, and are always completely satisfied! The service is outstanding also. Highly recommend reservations!
Everything was lovely!
Food and service were outstanding. Our waiter Diago could not have been more personable and friendly. Perfect lunch before a great broadway show. I've been here before and will come back again. One of my favorites.
Service was very slow. I ordered a Caesar salad and it was forgotten and then after waiting 45 minutes for my food I said just forget it. I won’t be returning to this restaurant ever again.
The food and its presentation were outstanding. The waiter was quite attentive.
Deborah the door greeter was a delight! A lovely experience.
Unfortunately the night I went they were really crowded and the restaurant was not equipped to handle a packed house. Waited close to an hour for our appetizers only to have the main course come out less than 10 minutes later.
Mama Mia-44sw was very close to the theater at which we were watching a show, so the location was fantastic. The food was delicious and that's saying a lot because we had a vegetarian, a picky teenager and some adults with high expectations in our group. We all enjoyed our meals!
While the food was fine, there were serious service issues. We had to wait 15 minutes beyond our reservation time to be seated. While our order was taken promptly, it was almost another 45 minutes before the food came out. I realize it was a Saturday night in the Theater District, but either the kitchen is grossly understaffed or has other problems. Also, perhaps they should cut back on either the walk-ins or the reservations if they can't handle a full restaurant.
Great looking wait staff! All professional! They didn't even make fun of me in my kilt. Had a lovely 29th anniversary dinner after the Tartan Day Parade. Great seafood dishes and LIMONCELLO Yum!
I chose this restaurant based on other reviews and was very pleased. Great food, good service, pleasant staff. I highly recommend.
It smelled funny throughout the restaurant. Looks nice from the outside. Clever design as it looked outdated indoors. Better choices nearby, even on a walk-by basis.
Good food & service. A staple when we go to the theater!!
Excellent pre theater dinner
Although space is a little tight, the food was absolutely delicious! The maitre d was a lovely young woman who met us at the door and guided us on how to order our meal exactly how we wanted it. My tricolored linguine with fresh shrimp, scallops, mussels & calamari in alfredo sauce was one of the best I have ever had! Absolutely delish!
We had a 6pm reservation before an 8pm broadway show. The restaurant was pretty crazy. We weren’t seated until 6:30 and we didn’t get food until 7:15. I liked my dish, my friends found theirs okay. Spent most of the time wondering if we were going to make our show or not.
The service was bad—we felt forgotten through the entire meal. One of the staff asked if I wanted Parmesan cheese on my pasta—I said I did, but he never returned (and he didn’t even come close enough for me to wave him down). The food was good, but it was ruined by the poor service. My dinner companion was concerned throughout the meal that we would be late to our show. One nice note, we were kindly greeted at the door when we arrived.
Enjoyed everything about this restaurant! Booked for dinner after a Broadway play... perfect location. Food was delicious and the menu had extensive selections of great Italian food. Loved that they had a vegetarian selection! Excellent service and ambiance.
Nice menu choices and very good meal. Excellent service also in a nice ambiance.
Wonderful food. Everything was amazing and reasonably priced.
Enjoyed our first time here. Food was excellent, service was good. Will go back
Sadly this has become a tourist place so if you go before theater time it will be very loud and service will be very patchy. This is a decent place to go when it is not crowded, prices are on the high end for what it is though. We all ordered simple pastas and waited an hour after we ordered! No apology. Got so loud in there it was crazy. They pack too many people into this space. They are not prepared to service that many people, and they shouldn't, not at these prices.
Nice pre theather dinner with a lot of menu options. Vegeterian also avaialble.
The service and food was amazing. Actual Italian food. Prices are very fair. Small place and it does get a bit noisy. A must visit.
Good food. Too loud for any good conversation. Service was good. The mushroom fettuccine was really good and creamy. The penne alla vodka was good, but not outstanding. Will try again due to location.
Great fast service! Phenomenal food! Really the only negative was how loud it was. To be expected on a Saturday night. But the bare walls, ceilings, and floors just help it echo. I would definitely go back!
While the food, service and value was wonderful, the noise level in the restaurant was extremely loud.
I will be returning in any event!
Good basic Italian food in a family friendly atmosphere. Staff was attentive. Food was good. Portions were generous. A pleasant place to eat.
Wonderful time! Got to see Mama for her and the restaurants birthday!
Hands down, my favorite Italian restaurant in Manhattan. I never complain about meeting friends in Midtown West because I know where we will be eating. Food is great. Service is great.
