Mama Mia - 44sw
Blocks from the Theatre District, Mama Mia 44sw is considered the Best Family Owned Italian Restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. Whether your from the neighborhood, a tourist, or theatre-goer this is a hidden gem certain to delight you!
We are consistently rated 4 to 5-Stars across the board!!!
They have always been great think it was thanksgiving holiday. I will go back.
Went here with two girlfriends and had an awesome evening. Staff was friendly, food was awesome and reasonably priced, wonderful ambiance. Highly recommend!
Always friendly and local to Hells Kitchen ... Great food!
Great food, service was efficient, literally sit on top of your neighbors.
Wonderful choice for pre holiday celebration lunch. Nine of us gathered here and all loved their food selections. I had the grilled chicken salad l.j Dad w goat cheese, delish and very satisfying for lunch. Some friends ordered pizzas or pasta dishes. One ordered an all vegetarian entree. We shared desserts and all had some good wines. Our waiter was very attentive and never rushed us. In fact the atmosphere was so nice we lingered for hours. Prices were very fair for lunch and we will come back.
Great service and delicious food all within a great timeframe to make our show on time!
Very friendly staff. Large portions. Split with my friend and it was enough for the two if us. Wine list is good with good prices. Will definitely return.
Excellent spot for brunch/lunch with my parents. Definitely will return! Food and service were excellent!
We had tickets to a show at 8 pm and made a 6 pm reservation. It was so crowded when we arrived at 5:55 pm that we were not seated till 6:45. We had to look at the menu and order while we stood hovering over the tables with guests paying their checks. When we sat down the food arrived promptly but we were not in a great mood to enjoy it. Perhaps if we had gotten a 5:30 reservation we might have had a different experience. The food was good and the wait staff was attentive. I would not recommend this as a pre-theater restaurant
We had a 6 pm reservation and were not seated until 6:45. We were going to an 8 pm show. Hostess was vague, saying we would be seated soon. We ordered at the bar. No manager spoke to us about it.
Love this place. Excellent Italian classics. Great location. Cute.
The service is very slow . My friends enjoyed their dishes , however I had an omelet. They skillet fry their omelet's and I found it very dry.
We enjoyed the meal but were not happy with the location of our table, right inside the front door.it was very drafty up against the window. And the space was very tight. The food, however, was very good and the wine list had some nice surprises reasonably priced.
We had a date night with my husband last Saturday at this restaurant and we loved it. The food was great! We had the mussels for app and the white wine sauce made the mussels even more delicious. I had the tri color Fettucini Champignon and it was very well cooked. Hubby had Chicken 44. For dessert we had La Bomba, very delicious fudge ice cream. The servers were polite and talkative. Everything was on time. Their wine menu is quite good. It’s a small restaurant so it can get tight but you can still have a private conversation. Parking can be a challenge, taking an Uber is highly recommended.
Terrible service and bartender was extremely rude. The only good thing was the water servers and the people who served the food. We won’t be back.
Food lacked flavor
The bread, wine, and food were just mediocre. I wanted to like the restaurant more since I live a block away. The service was attentive and quick.
Great food and service. Great Manhattan’s from the bar.
Confusion getting our table. Great food
Only complaint lighting was very low. Difficult to read menu. Otherwise great experience.
Good quality, good food and ambiance
We went for a late lunch - 1:30pm so it was nice & quiet.
A get together with a friend we haven’t seen for a long time. The food was very good. We were a little disappointed that they were no longer serving sandwiches for lunch. They wanted us to order from a menu which is now both lunch & dinner.
Good meal, good service, would be happy to go again.
Worst service at a usually excellent restaurant I can recall. Never had a waiter come over to take our order and say “Food? “
Appetizer dishes not cleared until main course finished. Waiter spent most of the time looking at his cellphone instead of asking if we wanted anything.
Salmon which is usually excellent was over cooked.
Service was excellent and food tasted amazing
Overpriced mediocre Italian food.
The food was delicious..the location was perfect to the Theatre District and Penn Station-- however we felt a bit rushed.
Very enjoyable would return
Great meal at a family owned restaurant where the owners were present in the dining room and very hospitable. Delicious food!!
The dinner was ok but was very disappointed to see that they automatically charge a 20% tip ... We should be able to choose the tip we wish to give, especially that we were a party of 2
Food was ok the chicken was tough but was a good size. Wine was very drinkable and service was just ok.
Service was slow, food was fair. I ordered chicken marsala, which was overcooked chicken PIECES, not full cutlets, which were smothered under penne in a very sweet sauce. I have had this dish prepared other places in more savory marsala sauces. Other dishes served to my family were also fair..,, not a great value for the high price!
You will keep coming back to this restaurant. The food is outstanding, the family of owners are welcoming and the experience, awesome! Perfect for a date or before and after theater or just because! You will not be disappointed!
Food was good but was rushed. Drinks, appetizers & main course finished in 30 minutes after we told the waitress that we just got out of a broadway matinee and that we weren’t in a hurry. We go out for a Saturday evening dinner I expect it to last more then 30 minutes. Food was good but with so many restaurants in the area we won’t be returning.
Great food and service as always....can’t beat the price
Great food and the owners are wonderful. They always take care of us.
The food was absolutely delicious and our waiter rocked.
Well prepared Italian food, large portions, friendly vibe, moderate prices, convenient choice in theater district.
Husband’s burthdsy
This is one of my 'go to' restaurants in the Theatre District- a block away on 9th Ave. it has less of the noisy crowd that tends to go to restaurant row. The food is fantastic - I always think Mama is cooking just for me. Remember good food takes time ! The staff do not hurry you from course to course but are accommodating if you tell them you have theatre tickets.
