Had a great time with family celebrating 2 birthdays. Treated us amazingly, very tentative and great food.
So yummy! Huge portions, 2 people could definitely share and come away stuffed. Breadsticks, soup and salad buffet, homemade pasta— it’s basically impossible to go wrong! Fried zucchini was amazing, as was Joe’s Special entree.
Pros: Great food! Delicious! The service won't disappoint. Did I mention how good this food is?
Cons: None to really speak of
Price: More expensive than many restaurants, but we're pretty sure it'll cost you a little less than Olive Garden. 2 appetizers, 5 adult meals, bread sticks, 2 iced teas, a soda, and 3 desserts - $122. Without appetizers and desserts, the bill would've been under $100.
The "bad": This is the second time I've eaten there, so I'm not sure if this happens all of the time, but the first night I was there, the pizza oven was broken. The second night I was there, it was really hot and stuffy in the restaurant.
The good: Both times, the service was above average, but I wouldn't call it great or exceptional. The food arrived in a timely manner, was hot, the waitress(es) were attentive, and they did their jobs well. If anything, though the restaurant didn't seem too busy, the waitresses acted very busy and seemed a little distracted. This came across to me as sort of impersonal. But again, they made zero mistakes, and I didn't feel neglected, ignored, nor forgotten about... they did their job well.
The exceptional: The food is fantastic! Even as leftovers, I couldn't stop thinking about how yummy it is.
Always good food and a comfortable place for dining any time of day. The pasta bar and salad bar combo (11am-2pm) is the best deal!!
Service was great but unfortunately the food didn’t live up to the reviews we had read. Apart from the garlic bread which was excellent!
Cold pasta & the pizza we ordered has toppings missing!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Tucson!! We have become such frequent customers that they really do know our names. The food is always good, and we have introduced out of town and local guests to it. Mama Louisa's Italian Restaurant is one of the Tucson Originals and a must-see for anyone and everyone who lives, works, or visits Tucson!!
Glad we made a reservation through Open Table. When we arrived, there were many waiting in line for their tables - while we were shown to ours right-a-way. As the place was packed, our waitress was under some stress and was a bit blunt at times...but we can overlook that under the circumstances. This time the food was only okay and the Uncle Mike's Bread was not worth the $3.00. Just accept their comp bread stick instead. The Veal Parmigiana was generous while the Shrimp Scampi had only 5 medium shrimps. Best thing was the Grilled Veggies.
Great as usual. We visit often and the food is always outstanding.
The food was amazing. We had the Valentine's Day Special. The waitress was very friendly.
Excellent food. Great service from a Tucson Classic restaurant
We had a large group of 11 adults and 3 small children, at a busy weekend time. Table was ready when we arrived, but it took quite a long time to get any water or place our orders. In a commendable effort to serve all the food at the same time, it appeared that some dishes may have sat under a heat lamp while the others were prepared. Pizza was terrific. Prices are very reasonable. All in all, we enjoyed our visit, but I'd probably go with a smaller group next time in hopes of a little less wait around to be served time.
Food was very good. Pasta was outstanding. Sara's service was excellent. Family friendly, but very noise and air conditioning was overwhelmed.
Love this place...Great food, friendly service at very reasonable prices. We make this our stop for dinner every time we’re in Tucson.
Homemade pasta noodles every morning - and you really can taste the difference. Everything is from scratch. If you are looking for unpretentious, truly from scratch cooking, this is amazing experience. This place is for sure worth coming back to. A great discovery and memory, look forward to going again on my next trip!
Great food Great Value Great Service (Shari)
Ciapino over filled with ingredients.
Bread all made fresh on site.
Food was great. It always is. The service wasn't all that great. We were there for about 15 minutes before the waitress came over. She only came back to bring the food. Never saw her again. I never had bad service here before. Loved the food, hated the service.
It was horrible they put us by the bar the food was not worth the price I'll never go there again
Wow ... I was so lucky to find this place & get a reservation ! Great front of the house experience ( hostess & checking in) to getting the check. From beginning to end, we had a wonderful time. This place was awesome.
Actually, I was very impressed with the salad bar and pasta bar. I loved the tablecloths and the atmosphere. It was just a lovely lunch! Our food was plentiful and served hot. The salad bar, and the pasta bar were to die for. A lovely dining experience!
Very good Italian food at reasonable prices. It can get noisy, as it's popular with families, but the staff is friendly. The garlic breadsticks are out of this world! My only concern: they charge $5 for a modest soup & salad bar. But the portions are large, so unless you really like salad, it's not necessary.
The service and food were very good. We’ll go again.
Couldn’t fault the friendly service and the food and cocktails were spot on.
Our food was very good and our server was awesome.
Enjoyed a family gathering which was very special for Christmas Eve staff and food was fantastic
Ambiance as very good as as the food. Joe's special as a bit too rich for me but otherwise a pleasant experience. Wait staff was very good.
OK, not great. Has gone down in quality quite a bit over the years. Still has the same tacky decor it had when I first went there 45 years ago. I don't think they have painted since. Food was ok, but about the same quality as Olive garden. Table wobbled, floor sticky. A good thing this wasn't a special evening. The wedding soup had bland broth, but good meatballs. Caesar salad lacked anchovies. Unispired deserts.
We were super impressed that some of the pasta was made right on site. Joes special dish out of this world. Just the right little kick loaded with mlted cheese finished with just the right amount of sauce and fresh pasta. Highly recommentd. We all shared fried zucchini -melted in mouth.
Lights could have been dimmed to complete the expereince, however friendly service, amazing food make this a darling italian bistro. A must if you love italin food.
We had dinner with family from out of town at Mama Louisa's. Everyone enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I especially liked the fact that they had Gluten free pasta choices AND the GF pasta was delicious!
This place was delicious! I would definitely go back.
Usually, this is one of my favorite restaurants. However, on this visit, my sister and I waited quite a while for our entrees to arrive. The calamari was undercooked. The restaurant had a wait list , and the staff was stretched too thin. Saturday evenings are not the best nights to enjoy the excellent ambiance of Mama Louisa's.
This is one of the best restaurants in Tucson, without question!! The food is fabulous, and the staff is phenomenal. My sister and I are treated like family here. We have vowed to make a weekly visit routine. We heartily recommend this restaurant as a must visit during your time in Tucson.
Great tradition of food! Cute and most enjoyable Italian food!
My first time eating here. Very impressed. Excellent food. I will definitely be returning in the future.
Always great and Shellie did a great job! They also have a Military discount!
This restaurant is a must-go-to destination while visiting Tucson, Arizona. The food is terrific and ample. The service is fun and friendly. Go often and become a regular; it's like going home for dinner.
Great food and awesome service.
Love the traditional Italian dishes and homemade pasta
For the best Italian food in Tucson go to Mama Louisa's.
Great homemade pasta. Was not very busy for a Sunday night.
The perfect place to celebrate a 70th birthday!! The salad bar and pasta bar combo is great!! Most pasta is house made and original!! I go there often and feel like family now!!
It was very busy so I am glad I made reservations ahead of time. The only problem with it being busy, the wait staff was a bit neglectful, they asked at the end of the meal if we needed refills on our drinks, I could have used one before my meal came out. We did start off the meal with an appetizer, but, we didn't get the actual meal for another 45-50 minutes after that. Once the food arrived, my meal looked like it had sat for a bit, the cheese was all clumped together, not very gooey.
We had not been here in many years and we really enjoyed our recent visit. The soup and salad bar was very good, the meatballs are moist and absolutely delicious, and the aniipasto salad was terrific. Portion sizes were larger than expected. My husband ordered a pizza and it was one of the best ever!! The service was great. We will be returning again soon!
