Mama Louisa's Italian Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Usually, this is one of my favorite restaurants. However, on this visit, my sister and I waited quite a while for our entrees to arrive. The calamari was undercooked. The restaurant had a wait list , and the staff was stretched too thin. Saturday evenings are not the best nights to enjoy the excellent ambiance of Mama Louisa's.
This is one of the best restaurants in Tucson, without question!! The food is fabulous, and the staff is phenomenal. My sister and I are treated like family here. We have vowed to make a weekly visit routine. We heartily recommend this restaurant as a must visit during your time in Tucson.
It was very busy so I am glad I made reservations ahead of time. The only problem with it being busy, the wait staff was a bit neglectful, they asked at the end of the meal if we needed refills on our drinks, I could have used one before my meal came out. We did start off the meal with an appetizer, but, we didn't get the actual meal for another 45-50 minutes after that. Once the food arrived, my meal looked like it had sat for a bit, the cheese was all clumped together, not very gooey.
We had not been here in many years and we really enjoyed our recent visit. The soup and salad bar was very good, the meatballs are moist and absolutely delicious, and the aniipasto salad was terrific. Portion sizes were larger than expected. My husband ordered a pizza and it was one of the best ever!! The service was great. We will be returning again soon!
Went with a friend because I was craving their delicious homemade pasta. Had sauce served on the side at waitress's suggestion because I told her I really came for the pasta and didn't want too much sauce on it.
I had linguine with meat sauce-absolutely delicious. My friend had the shrimp scampi. also delicious. We each took home enough for dinner the next night.
Waitress was great, very pleasant, helpful, and attentive.
Was anxious to try out this restaurant because I heard the food was very good. I have to agree. Our server was nice but very difficult to get his attention when we needed refills for tea and water. Also I did not know about salad/soup bar or pasta bar until one of our friends who had been there before explained it to us. Also, another patron explained about the pasta bar.
Wish someone had explained this to us.
I absolutely love going to Mama Louisa's Italian Restaurant because it feels like home. The food is so good and filling that I always leave with leftovers. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Great place.......a must go for both locals as well as visitors.
The service was amazing! But the food was disappointing. Canned clams on the pasta were disgusting and the noodles tasted like they came from a packet of Ramen noodles and the tiramisu was frozen which tells me it was fresh. I came here because the reviews were really good but was quickly disappointed.
We got there before other parties at around 5pm. We didn't get our food till 6:20pm after we informed our waitress that we had to be on the other side of town by 7pm. We had two bites and had to box it up. I felt there was only one waitress but several servers. The food also did not taste as good as it used to.
The pasta itself was good. Waiting for the food and drink refills was a little long. I loved the salad bar but I'm not sure it is worth the price. I felt that the Joes specoal had too much sauce. It seems the early bird special isn't just a miniature size of the regular, but also takes away some of the inclusions. I will return to try their fettuccine, but it will just be a special occasion as I couldn’t afford to bring the family. I also would return if they provided a discount for teachers? Thank you. I really liked the salad bar and the historic, authentic ambiance.
Momma Luisas was a disappointment. We arrived at 830 on Saturday bight
for our 845 reservation and there were 3 cars parked in the parking lot. The neighborhood
looked pretty seedy and we never went in. The place was dark and we didn't think
anyone was there. Not quite the happening place we had envisioned. Unless there was
parking somewhere else I think the place was empty!
The food was the star of the show! The service suffered because so many people arrived without reservations and overwhelmed this little gem of a restaurant. My guests and I waited for an hour for our order. Three out of four of the meals were warm and good but one was cold. I would still return because I'm sure that was a fluke. This is a great family business that has lasted for decades and I'm sure they will continue. Try it. You'll like it!
