Founded by Ayesha Abraham, Mama Ayesha's opened for business in 1960. We are a family owned and operated restaurant serving authentic Arabic cuisine. Enjoy a fresh fattoush salad, some hummus, or some falafel to open you appetite. Main dishes include lamb, chicken, and beef dishes cooked over our charcoal grill. Or try one of our stuffed specialties such as our stuffed yellow squash or grape leaves. Plenty of vegetarian as well as vegan options also available.

With dishes prepared daily from scratch you can be sure you're getting the closest thing to home cooking. We are glad to be moving forward into our 5th decade of serving the Washington, DC area. Many of our guests can tell you that when you’re here at Mama Ayesha’s, you’re family!

Pleasant space and excellent service. Food was okay but nothing special, except for the yummy sardines. The pita tasted pre-packaged and bland. Disappointed given the high Open Table rating.

After not going to Mama Ayeshas for years we have "rediscovered" it and now use it as one of our go-to places when folks come visit from out of town. The food is always delicious, ambience is just right for visiting, and our guests always enjoy it (as do we). We start out with 4-5 mezza dishes and then usually split a couple of mains, as no one is completely hungry after humus, baba ghanoush, stuffed grape leaves, fatoush salad and kibbeh -- an order of lamb kabobs and one of musakan (a wonderfully aromatic dish of grilled chicken served smothered in onions over pita) makes for a great dinner. Wonderful!!

The decor is charming. The food is not authentic and not even very tastey.

We ordered the Hummus bil Lahmeh (just ok), Baba Ghanouj (delicious), Zahir (pretty good), Mujadarah (pretty good) , and Mouzat (AMAZING). The Mouzat (lamb shank) was definitely the highlight.

The food was bland and service was error-prone and absent when needed. Both were disappointing given several previous experiences.

One of the best experiences i have had in DC. The cuisine brought me back to my mother's cooking and i will definitely become a regular. An amazing authentic middle eastern restaurant that is 2nd to none.

We used to love eating at Mama Ayesha's but it has changed. First they could not find my reservation. Then they got my order wrong and forgot the couscous that went with one dinner. Not the same.

Returned to Mama Ayesha’s for some authentic mid-eastern food, friendly service and to fill my craving for really good hummus.

We shared the cheese rolls, hummus & spinach feta walnut salad. All were very fresh; we will order them again. As a vegetarian, I ordered & enjoyed my lentil rice dish. My husband liked his marinated grilled beef with vermicelli rice, a house specialty. The bill was reasonable.

Inside has been upgraded and is now a very nice setting inside. Will return.

This place is an institution and one of the few restaurants with excellent middle eastern cuisine. Family owned and operated; friendly fantastic service. Off the beaten path, but worth it.

We've been here dozens of times. The food, service, and atmosphere are all very good. It is quite enough that you can have a conversation. The tables are far enough apart that you don't have to listen to your neighbor's conversation. The pacing of the meal (drinks, appetizers, main, dessert, and coffee) is perfect.

Mama Ayesha's is a hidden gem and one of the best restaurants in DC. Delicious, authentic food options for every diet without a cumbersome wait; beautiful layout with ample space and not too loud; perfect for date night or a group get together. This place is my favorite.
