Malmaison Brasserie - Newcastle

Simple classic dishes, uncompromising in quality and generous in portions. I'm having a love affair with the local food heroes of Northumberland you think as you browse the menu. Every ingredient comes from around the corner, genuinely prepared with passion by superstar Chefs. Northumberland steak and ale pie it is.

Another fine choice. Swiftly followed by a quirky South African. Sommelier and Chef - a well-oiled machine. Much like your good self as you partake in another glass.

Eating out in Newcastle has never been so good at the Mal. The 100 seater Brasserie is decadent, rich in colour and design. Enter through the candle-lit stairway for the ultimate dining experience, complemented with the finest wines carefully selected by our expert Sommelier.

Every special occasion deserves a very special venue and the Mal takes that particularly delightfully baked sponge cake with honours. Featuring spectacularly slinky spaces big enough for the largest of parties to intimate private dining rooms catering for a cosy few of your nearest and dearest. Looking to celebrate in style? Had a really lovely time at Malmaison. Food was nice, served by friendly yet professional staff, good cocktails and a nice wine list as well.

Loved everything about our dinner at Mal last week. Great food, great service and great wine. Danny the sommelier and Gareth were great, went the extra mile to make our night special. Will be back soon.

We enjoyed Sunday lunch at the Mal, very reasonably priced for 2 or 3 courses, vegetarian choices and child-sized portions. Excellent wine list too. Would recommend for Sunday lunch in Newcastle.

It was the small details. As starters i had the shrimp coctail which was amazing and my bf had the chicken skewers which came in 3 differentpreparations. Nothing to fault. The steak from my bf had no real taste and the hand-cut chips were not handcut. I had the mal grill with lobster, steak and 2 shrimps. To be fair there were 3 shrimps ;-) All in all not bad but still felt like a hotel restaurant.

We booked for evening dinner on a Friday and while we expected it to be busy, the level of service was very poor. We had to ask the server to come over multiple times to get more drinks and the food took an unacceptable amount time to arrive. We all ordered steak and every one was over-cooked. Very poor for a restaurant that specialises in steak. The lobster also came with no tools. If you really want to eat at a similar place then Hotel Du Vin is only 5 minutes walk away and is far better in both service and quality of food (the menu is almost the same as its the same chain). The pricing would be fine if the food was cooked to perfection, which it wasn't. The only saving grace was that the desert, which was very nice. I would not return.

Went on a Saturday night with another couple. Dark, but cosy restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere. Food was good, service was good. Would certainly recommend it.

Had a little wait to be seated despite booking. The chicken skewer starters were delicious however the chicken liver parfait wasn't as expected. The actual pate was nice however the accompanying bread was just that, bread, and broke when trying to spread anything on it. Also there was only two small triangles equivalent to half a slice of bread. The main courses were again delicious, but then again anything would have been after an hour and a half wait. We were in the restaurant for a total of 2 and a half hours yet were not offered any more drinks despite both the bottle of wine and water running out midway through. Overall i'd say it's a nice place to eat, the food is nice, but the wait for the food was ridiculous.
