About Mali Restaurant
According to Zagat, This "excellent" local spot where Va-Highlanders meet is known for its "great patio" and "good, reasonably priced sushi and Thai food"; it's a mystery why it's "rarely crowded", but "those who love it" and want to keep it all to themselves "hope it stays that way."

Mali Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My spouse and I have dined at Mali many times. The food has always and continue to be very good. Our ambience during this visit was a little lacking due to being seated next to a table of two couples and a baby. One couple....the one with the baby...spoke loud enough for passersby on the sidewalk outside to hear them. Since the tables are arranged close together and we happened to be seated next to the couple, we could barely hear ourselves speaking to each other. This made for a less than enjoyable evening.
In addition, our server sat our check on the table while I was still eating my entree! That act, in and of itself, warrants taking Mali off our restaurant rotation. However, we’ve never seen this server during previous visits. We will assume she is new and untrained. We will dine at Mali’s again and hope this doesn’t reoccur.
Mali always satisfies, wether you’re having Thai or Sushi! The Thai dishes are authentic and tasty and the Sushi fresh with interesting roll combinations. The most recent visit was Saturday night and Mali was very busy (always a good sign) . We had made a reservation through open table and were seated immediately our drinks arrived quickly as did our food, we had both Thai and Sushi and were pleased with everything. Next time you have a taste for Thai or Sushi stop in and enjoy Mali.
Mali is one of my favorites. The food is always very good and the staff is appropriately attentive. You can't go wrong with the Thai or sushi. My wife and I took my daughter and 2 college age friends, for New Years Eve, and they gave it rave reviews as well.
Mali is always very yummy but the table we had this time was not that great. We were put on the lower level and felt like we were in someone's basement and there was a cold draft from the open exterior door. I would have rather been in the main dining area.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! We've been going to MaLi for 25+ years, and this is it ... absolutely the last visit!!! The owner has apparently opened a new restaurant in Brookhaven, and was not there - and when she has always been there in the past, MaLi ran very well - she ran a very tight ship. This night, we had a problem with everything. The service was pathetic ... we think the waiter was taking care of too many tables. The waiter got my wife's Pad Thai totally wrong ... had scallops (& shrimp) on it vs. the requested chicken (& shrimp) ... and when they "fixed" the order, there were very few pieces of chicken (& shrimp) ... i.e., we paid $15+ for noodles. The waiter never came by to refresh our drinks ... we had to chase down another waiter to get refills. The prices are astronomical, especially for the sushi (which, yes, was as good as always). We sat outside, and there were tables that went uncleaned for 10 minutes or more ... and during the meal, we had a screaming baby behind us (we said nothing), and the restaurant did not ask that she be taken out or walked. Lastly, after waiting more than 15 minutes after finishing our meal, we had to ask for the bill ($75+ for sushi and Pad Thai for 2, and no alcohol!), and the waiter never came to pick up our credit card after a 10 minute or so wait, so we finally walked up to the front cash register to check ourselves out. On our way out, we saw a woman who appeared to be in charge, and when she asked us why we were bringing our bill to the cash register, we started to tell her we were 25+ year customers and about how bad things had been, but she said nothing in response and only ran to chase down our waiter (presumably to find out what had occurred) and she never came back to us before we walked out. Bottom line - 25+ years of being a loyal customer of MaLi, and we'll never go back due to what we see as a deterioration of everything except possibly for the quality of the food (vs. quantities, prices, etc.).
Mali is our favorite Thai/Sushi Restaurant and favorite sate night spot. The Moo Shu appetizer was amazing and tasted fresh. We also had two sushi rolls and some nigiri that were amazing. We love the ambiance. The only negative was that it took a little too long to get our drinks.
ANOTHER GREAT EXPERIENCE AT MA LI
Ma Li is a neighborhood favorite of mine for AUTHENTIC Thai cuisine. I have never ordered any item on their extensive menu that did not have the ideal blend of Thai flavorings and seasonings. Service is always spot on, and the vibe is contemporary Asian. I love the fact that parking is free and plentiful--a rare treat in any intown neighborhood.
Four of us had a very nice meal at Mali. All food ordered was quite tasty and the massaman curry lovers were especially happy that this version had avocado rather than potato. Waitstaff were capable and friendly, and the ambiance is nice. Only one complaint -- We sat on the patio and were bothered by flies. I hope they can do something about that! Regardless, I'll be going back.
We certainly over dressed for dinner on a Sunday evening! But, the food was excellent!
Our only complaints are with the VERY loud music and the angry service. I understand that servers are sometimes over taxed but, a surly server really impacts the dining experience!
I always enjoy the tasty dishes at Mali, and the wine list is good. The restaurant's decor has been updated, so it's attractive and comfortable, and the table service is very attentive. But the volume of the "background" music was too high. We asked twice if it could be turned down a bit so that we could talk with our friends, but the volume remained the same. The loud music may be acceptable to others, but we will be reluctant to return since it doesn't make for a relaxing conversation.
Mali has been one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta for over a decade. The food is always fantastic and the service is usually equally great. However, this week was my first time having less than stellar service, but I'll give our server the benefit of the doubt in case she was new.
I highly recommend Mali and it really is the best thai/sushi restaurant in all of Atlanta.
A casual cozy spot with fresh delicious food, Mali quickly became our favorite Friday night place. Relaxing low-key way to start the weekend! We love exploring all the menu options (sushi, too). Don't forget to leave room for dessert. Loved the fried banana over coconut ice cream during our last visit. Parking is easy and we always find a spot in one of two lots -- or off-street. Lucky if you live nearby and can walk! Open for lunch, too -- a real neighborhood gem!
