Tables were very close together and air was blowing directly over the table. It was raining so we didn’t want to sit outside with the open windows.
Great. We enjoyed our entrees.
They were understaffed which led to unreasonable wait times. They also charged us for the adjacent table’s bill. We left extremely disappointed.
Very enjoyable experience at Mali Thai. Definitely recommend the hip, tasty establishment to anyone looking to eat a unique cuisine in a lively, enjoyable atmosphere.
BEST THAI IN ATLANTA
I have been enjoy Mali for many years as I live in Virginia Highland. The restaurant has evolved over the years both in size and in the creativity of the cuisine. There are often specials-for drinks, sushi, and Thai specialities and they encourage going beyond your comfort zone. The restaurant does tend to get very busy, which is a testament to its both popularity and its great location on a quiet side street. I dined on the patio, which on a warm Spring evening can be a real treat. Everything about MaLi is authentic, from the traditional Thai decor, to the preparation of the food--even the servers are native to this wonderful Asian country. Parking is free and plentiful, but I see neighborhood denizens often walking from the surrounding neighborhood. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Tables are too close together, even wait staff cannot adequately serve patrons without hitting another table.
We miss Noi
I go there at least once a month and the food is always good, but I loath being sat in the front area. They cram so many tables in there you can’t get in or out easily and it becomes uncomfortably close. I could hear ever piece of conversation to my left and right ... and really didn’t want to.
The tight space also impedes on the service, which has always been a little lower than desired. I think they need to add at least one more waiter/ waitress and divide the tables up to smaller sections, allowing better service.
I know they will think they are breaking the holy grail by having less seating, but they have a full patio as well. And servers with less tables can make bigger tips off those tables if they do a good job.
We come here every other month. There are plenty of good dish options in their menu such that we usually order something different. Even their roll selection is varied. The ingredients they use seem fresh and of good quality which translates into great taste, forget about the previously frozen rubbery chicken and pork you find in some places. My favorites are the Tom ka soup and rainbow dish. They offer a great value for the prices.
Wonderful Customer service!!
Always consistently great!
Always really good food. And, always great service.
Has become one of my favorite restaurants - food and service is consistently good!
It was so good. I'm pregnant and was craving thai. It hit all the spots!
Food was great. It was our first time dining at Mali. We were Was pleasantly surprised by how good it was
Our Server was Multi Tasking working the Bar plus quite a big area of tables by herself but she managed to stay on top of it all Not letting tables go without! She was Quick & Efficient and as always the food was GREAT!! Such a GREAT Selection and that’s why I Love this place
This was my first time dining at Mali and it was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed the Pad Thai and will definitely return to the restaurant again when I am in the area.
This is usually a very consistent food service restaurant but soup was very salty and entree didn’t seem fresh
Great food! Not good service. Food came out delayed and not even warm. Drinks were useless. Probably worst experience I have had at Mali. It’s one of my favorite places and a real gem. I chalk it up to our server who was very confused the entire evening.
We are frequent Mali customers but service on this particular night was kind of clunky. The food arrived to our table at various times which always make it awkward. Since we’ve been here before without a problem I’ll give them off an off night.
Good value. Food is always good. This particular Saturday night, the service was not spectacular. One of our party actually had to get up to refill our water glasses, himself. Flagging down our server was necessary on a couple of occasions. And, the food took a bit to be delivered. Usually, though, this has not been my experience here.
The waitress forgot our drink order and the appetizers came out with the meal...
Another excellent meal at Mali's. Great food. Quite atmosphere conducive to having a good meal and a good conversation.
Love that they celebrated International Women’s Day! Food and service were great!
We live close and go to Mali often and have always had a great dining experience. Last night we went with friends who also live close and go often. We had one of the worst dining experiences I can remember. We had to hail the waitress to take our order after sitting with menus on the table for 15 minutes. She took the drink order and we got one drink but had to ask again about the other that never came. While waiting for our food we noticed tables around us who came in after us finished and paying. At one point thy brought us our check and we still had not been served! Again after hailing the waitress we got food an hour after our arrival. One of us ordered sushi as his dinner and it never came. Finally the waitress admitted she had never placed that order and asked if we still wanted it. He got his meal 20 minutes later when we were done with our entrees. It was a disaster. There were no apologies or compensation offered either.
Mali is one of my favorite restaurants. Everything I have tried on the menu is delicious and not overwhelming. I rarely have any leftovers! I love the angel wings appetizer best of all. Good for gatherings of friends.
enjoyed our first visit to Mali's which was completely on the spur of the moment. I am not a Thai food expert by any means. The MaiTai was excellent. The appetizer rolls were huge! One of my dinner companions is a vegetarian and she enjoyed her Pad Thai while my wife and I had other non-spicy noodle dishes. Appreciated that the menu made it clear which dishes were spicy. The service was unhurried for a Saturday night. Only complaints would be that the room was a bit too cool temperature wise (fan blowing over our corner table) and they were out of one of the beers we requested. Would definitely recommend and will happily come back for another taste.
After telling the host I had a reservation under my name through opentable she responded to tell me that she had received my reservation but did not have a table for me. She said that the low table by the window should be clear and we could sit there for after a waiter clears it off. While my girlfriend is short, I am 6’4” and do not fit well at a low table.
I made the reservation a week in advance for a Valentine’s Day date and would have been fine with the restaurant cancelling my reservation a week ago and allowing me to make a reservation somewhere else. However the restaurant never contacted me.
After being seated seated the food took over an hour to arrive and the portion sizes were minute compared to what they were charging.
A little confusion when we got there, it was Valentines Day we had a reservation but the table wasnt ready. It didnt take them too long to correct it though. After that it was rather smooth. All of the food was great. Took a while to get it but it was a packed house. But when it arrived it was good. I would recommend it
The food is consistently delicious, and quite reasonable!
Usually good but this time both food and service we're disappointing
Food is always great! Fav Thai restaurant. Service can be slow on busy nights and it can be loud.
I love Mali! Glad we had a reservation because we like to sit up top and I don't think they would have sat us there if we hadn't had a reservation.
Wait staff is good; however, kitchen is very unorganized in their food delivery. Food is good but just can't seem to get the delivery right.
Nice dinner out with my husband and baby
This is a fantastic gem in Virginia Highland area, my wife and I have eaten a Mali at least four times in the last 10 days. It's that good. Visit and make your own assessment.
Such a conflicting place! The food is really VERY good, the service is just bad. They have their servers working too many tables with no support, and it's obvious. There is no pride or eagerness to be a good server. We waited a good 15 mins to get water and then another 15 mins to get our drinks. They server blamed it on the bartender... not cool. Then you get your food and you easily overlook the horrible service. If they just get the service down this would be such an amazing experience.
My boyfriend and I love Thai food and have tried a ton of places in Atlanta. Mali is definitely our new favorite! Pad Thai was amazing, although more soy sauce/sweet tasting versus the traditional red/spicy sauce I’m used to. Basil rolls were the best I’ve ever had. The staff was so nice and we will definitely be back
Excellent food and the halibut special was outstanding. The space is really noisy.
