enjoyed our first visit to Mali's which was completely on the spur of the moment. I am not a Thai food expert by any means. The MaiTai was excellent. The appetizer rolls were huge! One of my dinner companions is a vegetarian and she enjoyed her Pad Thai while my wife and I had other non-spicy noodle dishes. Appreciated that the menu made it clear which dishes were spicy. The service was unhurried for a Saturday night. Only complaints would be that the room was a bit too cool temperature wise (fan blowing over our corner table) and they were out of one of the beers we requested. Would definitely recommend and will happily come back for another taste.
After telling the host I had a reservation under my name through opentable she responded to tell me that she had received my reservation but did not have a table for me. She said that the low table by the window should be clear and we could sit there for after a waiter clears it off. While my girlfriend is short, I am 6’4” and do not fit well at a low table.
I made the reservation a week in advance for a Valentine’s Day date and would have been fine with the restaurant cancelling my reservation a week ago and allowing me to make a reservation somewhere else. However the restaurant never contacted me.
After being seated seated the food took over an hour to arrive and the portion sizes were minute compared to what they were charging.
A little confusion when we got there, it was Valentines Day we had a reservation but the table wasnt ready. It didnt take them too long to correct it though. After that it was rather smooth. All of the food was great. Took a while to get it but it was a packed house. But when it arrived it was good. I would recommend it
The food is consistently delicious, and quite reasonable!
Usually good but this time both food and service we're disappointing
Food is always great! Fav Thai restaurant. Service can be slow on busy nights and it can be loud.
I love Mali! Glad we had a reservation because we like to sit up top and I don't think they would have sat us there if we hadn't had a reservation.
Wait staff is good; however, kitchen is very unorganized in their food delivery. Food is good but just can't seem to get the delivery right.
Nice dinner out with my husband and baby
This is a fantastic gem in Virginia Highland area, my wife and I have eaten a Mali at least four times in the last 10 days. It's that good. Visit and make your own assessment.
Such a conflicting place! The food is really VERY good, the service is just bad. They have their servers working too many tables with no support, and it's obvious. There is no pride or eagerness to be a good server. We waited a good 15 mins to get water and then another 15 mins to get our drinks. They server blamed it on the bartender... not cool. Then you get your food and you easily overlook the horrible service. If they just get the service down this would be such an amazing experience.
My boyfriend and I love Thai food and have tried a ton of places in Atlanta. Mali is definitely our new favorite! Pad Thai was amazing, although more soy sauce/sweet tasting versus the traditional red/spicy sauce I’m used to. Basil rolls were the best I’ve ever had. The staff was so nice and we will definitely be back
Excellent food and the halibut special was outstanding. The space is really noisy.
Excellent restaurant. Worth every penny.
We were getting together with friends who live in the suburbs and I suggested going to Mali - I'd been several years ago and really liked it. Unfortunately, the service was abysmally bad and our waiter was even worse. It was clear that they were understaffed, which happens sometimes, but nobody ever apologized for the wait or even acknowledged there was a problem at any point.
First, we got to the table and got water and menus... waited quite awhile to put in our drink/appetizer orders. Then we waited an abnormally long time to receive the drinks. Then we waited to order our main courses.
For entrees, 3 of our party ordered Thai and 2 of us ordered sushi. As we waited longer and longer, our drinks were half-full so we all ordered refills right away (we're talking pricey alcohol here, not water) - and still our glasses went empty for quite some time before we got refills. The Thai food came... and no sushi. After about 10 minutes of it getting cold while the Thai-ordering people politely waited for the sushi to arrive, we gave up on that and asked them to eat without us. Still no sushi (and no checking in from our waiter to see if everything was okay, or explaining why the sushi was delayed).
After an inordinate amount of time passed, a couple of my fellow diners saw what looked like our sushi plates sitting at the sushi bar... they sat there for 15 minutes or so when we finally flagged down a random waiter and asked if that might be our sushi - it was. By the time it arrived, the folks eating Thai food had finished their meals.
We were presented with the bill for the table next to us (with more people and pricier food). When we got our bill for our party of 5, despite the abysmal service, there was a 21% gratuity automatically added, and no way to remove it! The waitstaff clearly couldn't care less about good service because they knew they'd get a huge tip. Completely unacceptable.
Food was delicious, but the restaurant was very busy and maybe under staffed. Waitress got a few things wrong, but I think mainly because she had a lot going on. I don't usually go when it is so busy, and I never had problems.
Horrible service. Extremely understaffed- waited 20 minutes for server to acknowledge us after being seated then waited 27 minutes for drinks. Sushi was finished and sitting on the counter for at least 15 minutes before getting brought to table. Therefore, sushi did not taste fresh but the entrees were fine. Would be fine if staffed appropriately.
Food is always great here, but service speed has been extremely slow the past 4-5 times I’ve visited (even on weeknights at non-peak hours). Go when you’ve got plenty of patience, definitely not when you’re starving.
My spouse and I have dined at Mali many times. The food has always and continue to be very good. Our ambience during this visit was a little lacking due to being seated next to a table of two couples and a baby. One couple....the one with the baby...spoke loud enough for passersby on the sidewalk outside to hear them. Since the tables are arranged close together and we happened to be seated next to the couple, we could barely hear ourselves speaking to each other. This made for a less than enjoyable evening.
In addition, our server sat our check on the table while I was still eating my entree! That act, in and of itself, warrants taking Mali off our restaurant rotation. However, we’ve never seen this server during previous visits. We will assume she is new and untrained. We will dine at Mali’s again and hope this doesn’t reoccur.
We never got our main entree after waiting for over 1 hour. We only had drinks and appetizers while the main entree never came. We paid our bill and walked out. They were very busy and overwhelmed and couldn't get their orders out.
Mali always satisfies, wether you’re having Thai or Sushi! The Thai dishes are authentic and tasty and the Sushi fresh with interesting roll combinations. The most recent visit was Saturday night and Mali was very busy (always a good sign) . We had made a reservation through open table and were seated immediately our drinks arrived quickly as did our food, we had both Thai and Sushi and were pleased with everything. Next time you have a taste for Thai or Sushi stop in and enjoy Mali.
Server was not engaging at all. I don’t think she had people skills at all. She did not check on us once, not did she offer us any dessert.
Mali is one of my favorites. The food is always very good and the staff is appropriately attentive. You can't go wrong with the Thai or sushi. My wife and I took my daughter and 2 college age friends, for New Years Eve, and they gave it rave reviews as well.
Incredibly slow service considering that the restaurant wasn’t packed (perhaps they were understaffed), but delicious food as always!
Been a while since I was at Mali, and I think it's better than ever! Best food value in ATL.
It was my friends first time at your restaurant & he really enjoyed it!!! He said we’ll definitely be back!
We do not want to have CNN on anywhere where we are spending money. We do not need to see our preferred channels. However, we will never sit through CNN being on in our dining space again.
Nan is one of our favorites. The food is always just right, focusing on sea food, it is always great, no one will be disappointed.
Mali is always very yummy but the table we had this time was not that great. We were put on the lower level and felt like we were in someone's basement and there was a cold draft from the open exterior door. I would have rather been in the main dining area.
The restaurant was very warm, and made it a bit uncomfortable.
