Established in 1884, Maldaner's Restaurant and Catering is one of Springfield's finest restaurants. If you have visited The Old State Capitol, Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana-Thomas House or the State Capitol, you can imagine the wonderful celebrations Maldaner's likely was a part of at the turn of the last century and to the present day.

Today, under the guidance of Chef-Owner Michael Higgins, Maldaner's respects tradition while offering the best of contemporary American fine dining in our historical setting.

Chef Higgins features seasonal local and regional ingredients influenced by Mediterranean composition and preparation.

Heirloom vegetables, humanely raised meats and Slow Food all artistically prepared and presented.

We have 3 private dining rooms which are Handicapped Accessible. They are upstairs (elevator) The largest seats up to 120 guests with a private bar. We can divide that room in half for 2 parties of 45 each or less. Two of our rooms overlook historic downtown Springfield. One room has it"s own private bar.

We offer a wide selection of Catering Offerings. We cater for 2-300 guests depending on logistics. You can choose menus from our website or you can have our Chef personalize a menu that will be certain to please. Some of the most popular items are farm fresh fruits and vegetables. We also utilize a vast array of ingredients found locally, regionally and all throughout the United States.

Parking details
Each day after 5:00pm you are welcome to park in the lot behind Maldaner's via the alley. There are 2 spots that are always reserved but the rest are posted as "Scott and Scott" and "Merrill Lynch" and are available to use. If full we suggest the Municipal Parking Garage on 7th and Monroe. (attached to the Hilton) Walk out of garage towards 7th street and go through the alley (it is well lit) to 6th street and take a left on the sidewalk. You will see Maldaner's Awning

In our upstairs private dining room you can have any form of entertainment you would like to have. We have had DJ's, Magicians, 3 piece Bands, Abe Lincoln Impersonator's to name a few. We also have a piano in the bar area.

The hostess was a doll. We were greeted right away and felt taken care of. The atmosphere was wonderful. Good vibe. Lucky enough to be sat by the window. Lovely evening. The food was good. The wine was good. A very lovely evening. Great date place :)

The staff was courteous and professional as always. I had the ribeye and my wife had the prime rib. Both were cooked nicely, however both were unexceptional and boring. We have been going to Maldaners for over 20 years. The cuisine used to be on par with the best restaurants in Chicago and St. Louis. Sadly, that is no longer the case. The creativity seems to be gone. The menu is stagnant and rarely changed. We use to love this Maldaners but we won’t be back for a while. Too bad!

The Beef Wellington is to die for. Accompanied by fresh vegetables and potatoes it is the dish to get. Don’t forget to follow it up with the flourless Chocooate Cake!!

Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Presentation was beautiful, and the atmosphere is very mature. Food was underwhelming. Swordfish special was as dry as the bread and ribeye was the right temperature but tasted like charcoal. Butternut squash pumpkin spice soup was on the sweet side.

Well ... there's good news and there's bad news.

Good News: The prime rib and martini were superior. Great job.

Bad News: The amount of veggies served we're pathetically small. In particular, the mashed potatoes. I LOVE mashed potatoes with a great steak. Didn't happen.

Next time, Augie's Front Burner.

A special shout-out to our server, Sam. He made our overall experience a great one. 😊

Food was excellent. We both ordered seafood- halibut special for the birthday guy and wonderful salmon for me. Our waiter Jesse was very efficient and professional. Our martinis and wine were perfect. It was a birthday dinner for my husband and they gave him a delicious complimentary dessert. The whole evening was quite enjoyable.

As usual the food was delicious. I had the signature Beef Wellington which is always consistent. Many locally produced items are on the menu. Difficulty is in narrowing your selections for the evening.

We have been to Muldaners many times over the last 30 years and have always enjoyed the food and the dinings experience. A special place for special occasions. It's also great that they grow herbs and produce in their rooftop garden.

Excellent quality food with nice presentation. The bruschetta with heirloom tomatoes was delicious. We also had the warm goat cheese salad. The goat cheese was amazing. The burger, cooked in duck fat, was fresh and juicy. We finished off our meal with creme brûlée- also excellent. Fresh brewed iced tea was a bonus. Excellent, attentive service. Great atmosphere. Historic restaurant with fresh, farm to table ingredients. Highly recommend.

This is our favorite place to dine while in Springfield. We chose our hotel so that we would be within walking distance of Maldaners! Our server, Brett, was wonderful and made great suggestions. Food was outstanding! I chose quail stuffed with sausage while my wife had salmon. Both were outstanding! We will go back!

A very pleasant dinner outdoors. My wife and I shared a wedge salad and prime rib. While the wedge salad was small, we wished we ordered one each, it was very tasty and the romaine was crisp. The prime rib was one of the best we ever had. It was well seasoned and a perfect temperature. The sides were fresh and tasty. Overall a fine meal. Thanks.
