Great place, authentic Argentinian food and wine. Ideal for business lunches. Wonderful lunch specials!
We really had a great time with my mom and sister, and the food was amazing
Slow but pleasant service. Typical Argentine steak house with pleasant outside seating. Steaks truly nothing special. My Rib eye was seriously fatty and the T bone was tough. Sides good but unremarkable. Prices a bit high for being so unremarkable. Decent house Malbec, but not outstanding - pay the extra $2 and get the $14 instead of $12 for the better wine by the glass. Crime brûlée took 25 minutes to arrive and was cold.
Having lived in Argentina the food was authentic and the beef was very flavorful.
Malbec is a neighborhood restaurant on a stretch of 17th Street NW with a few great places. It has outdoor seating that gets packed early on nice nights April through October, so it's great to have a reservation if you plan to dine there on a summer evening. They have a good wine list but only serve two beers (the name gives away their specialty). The menu is mostly meat. My date got the skirt steak and loved it! I got the vegetarian paella, which was really dry long-grain rice and veggies. While I didn't like my meal, I totally understand because the menu is almost entirely red meat. I don't think veggie options are in their wheelhouse. We would definitely return to have a glass of wine on the patio and people watch (it's a great neighborhood for that!). Awesome date spot.
When we sat down our ap plates were covered in black dust and they didn’t offer to replace them, so I just wiped it off with a napkin and moved on.
I ordered the New York strip steak medium rare and when I got it it was well done, no pink whatsoever. So I thought “no big deal, it happens” but by the time the waiter came back to check on us after serving us everyone had already finished their food. I had to wait for them to remake my dinner, after our meal, and when I got the new one it was COMPLETELY rare. I don’t know if y’all need to invest in a meat thermometer or what, but this was a sorry excuse for a “steakhouse.”
And to top it all off they sent they switched me and my friends to-go boxes and sent me home with the wrong food.
Brunch: Excellent brunch menu and value for bottomless drinks and meals. The menu is priced below competing brunches in the area with higher quality food. The only improvement opportunity from our experience is the amount of egg/potato included in the dishes (could have been higher). The Argentinian sausage was excellent. Overall great experience and find.
Appetizers were excellent. Service got worse as meal progressed. It appears server forgot to place our order as we waited over an hour for food. Entrees were either tough or flavorless. Chicken had no taste and was not prepared as described(was sold as all white meat but came mixed). Steak was tough. Owner was visibly upset at our slow service and they offered us free wine and cookies to make up for the wait.
The staff was very courteous and attentive. The food was great and the price was very reasonable. The ambience was classy and refined. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and plan to return.
Fabulous food as always. Great wine and amazing rib eye
It’s the best Argentina restaurant in the Area, the personal it’s very kind, very clean and the prices are good.
The best milanesas ever!!!
Decent food, nice wine selection. Some of the meat we had was great, some tasted more like charcoal. Cozy, neighborhood feel.
Excellent meat, well cooked. Loved the wine selection.
We had the lunch special that include appetizer, entree, dessert and a glass of wine. Everything was delicious and very tasty. Excellent service! Love this place because they serve authentic Argetinian food. As always, we had a great time and we highly recommend this restaurant.
A very reliable & delicious restaurant! We are never disappointed
I loved it! True Argentinian food and wine. Everything was fantastic , from the empanadas to the meat and dessert!
exceeded my expectations, the food was spectacular!
The service and the ambiance were nice, but the food was mediocre at best. For $28, I got beef tenderloin with no sauce of any kind and no skdes. The wine special of the day was really good though.
We went as a family. Initially we were unsure if this was a family oriented place, but they accommodated us nicely. The food was impeccable!! Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and wine. If we lived in DC, this would be a regular place for us to dine.
Excellent Service, great food and wine!
Second time there, both times with groups, this time 5, last time 8 people. The service was on point both times. The wine was great and the bbq platter was delicious.
The meat quality was not good. Prices were expensive for what we got. It was annoying that the entres did not come with any side.
Superb Lunch Special for 18.95, incl. glass of wine. The real Argentinian thing, not some pseudo. Great steak. Excellent wine menu.
The food and wine menu was amazing! Ordered a Catena Malbec with dinner that was fantastic and was able to seat near the window and truly appreciate the neighborhood scene. Loved it!
As a native Argentine, writer, editor and a food lover, I can say that Malbec, is the place to go for casual and authentic Argentinian food. It is small, cozy and the staff is knowledgeable & kind. I love the updated deco, the new leather menu covers & other things made in Argentina. There is an excellent 3 course prix-fixe lunch menu including a glass of excellent house wine, which is a MUST try, if you work or if you are walking around Dupont Circle, Monday through Friday. Also, the dinner menu offers a variety of Argentinian meat cuts, and other typical dishes like "chorizo argentino, and provoleta (melted cheese) argentina". My only suggestion, which is not the first time that I have expressed it, is that I would love to see the entree dishes accompanied, e.g., by a few veggies or potatoes. The meat is cooked to perfection and very tasty. I have been to Malbec several times and I love it. The wine list is excellent. It is also a MUST that the Manager is available for recommendations on the wine list, as well as on the menu. I highly recommend Malbec!!! You can also stop by for dessert and a port or with a coffee. Sometimes, live Tango music is played. This is one of my favourite places in DC to eat excellent Argentinian food and to hang out by myself or with company!!!
We had a very good meal at Malbec. The steak was perfectly prepared. The lamb was also perfectly prepared. The wine selection was good. Desert was simple and tasty.
We will return the next time we’re in Washington.
Excellent eats - really great 3-course prix-fixe lunch menu (appetizer, entree, dessert, and glass of wine)
Very good and authentic Argentinian food, very kind service, quiet atmosphere and excellent value for money
Great authentic Argentinian food! The service is great, food amazing and excellent wine list.
The lunch special is a great deal.
It was a quiet night, but the food was great, and the service was perfect. I was with a native Argentinian who said that it tasted just like home!
We had such a great experience here! The staff were very attentive and friendly. They have an extensive Malbec list and great steak options. Great place for an authentic Argentinian experience.
This was my first time eating at this restaurant. They had a very delicious New Year’s Eve price fix meal. I am allergic to fish and they were most accommodating on some substitutions. I would absolutely recommend this meal to anybody and will be a return customer
Service was attentive without being intrusive and the food was delicious. Entrees ordered were vegetable paella and skirt steak. Had enough food for both of us to take home leftovers. Overall a very enjoyable dining experience.
The food was excellent. I selected the restaurant based on Yelp reviews and the restaurant's website menu.
I specifically went for their skirt steak -- relatively few restaurants have skirt steaks. It is listed in the menu for $20, but it wasn't clear at least to me that nothing -- nothing -- comes with the steak for that $20. Not a string bean, not a french fry or mashed potatoes, nothing. I ordered mashed potatoes for an extra $6. It was all very good.
I did feel rushed by the server staff, though they were very attentive throughout the meal.
Another great time in Malbec. We enjoyed very much the consistency of the food and the service of this place. Our dinner was more than delicious and our friends loved the restaurant. Every time I visit Malbec, something is new: there is a new menu (I loved the new presentation) and the wine list is amazing! I highly recommend this place, very authentic and delightful. Thanks Malbec, we always have a pleasant experience.
Malbec was great when we walked in. We were served tableside bread which was fabulous. However, after liking the first batch of bread, we kindly asked for more. The second batch was microwaved bread from a week ago it felt like. The meet was ordered medium rare, but came very rare and was unpleasant to eat. We felt treated poorly by the staff, which we had to reflect in our tips.
Malbec has to be the go to place for the Argentinians at their Embassy around the corner. Wine was just what you’d expect from a restaurant of that name - Perfect. Skirt steak was also . . . Perfect. Be advised, very good restaurant, but no bar.
Portion size was too small for price. Food was tasty. I would go back to try other items but during Happy Hour.
