It's like being back in Buenos Aires. Everything is wonderful and quaint.
My girlfriend and I came to Malbec at around 9PM on Saturday night for dinner. We had made reservations and were seated immediately. We were sat in a private little corner by the window, and were immediately impressed by the ambiance. It was crowded, but quiet. Our bubbly young waitress was almost over-attentive and as sweet as can be. We ordered the "traditional meal" for the two of us and we were brought a plate of perfectly and authentically Argentine cooked meat that was not only out of this world, but probably could have fed three or four people. We will most certainly make our way back to Malbec on our next trip to D.C.
We have a great time at Malbec. The food was delicious as always. We order the entraña, short ribs and grilled beef tenderloin. They were perfect cooked and the french fries were very good. The wine list is amazing, every time I come, there is a new Malbec! Highly recommend it as an Argentine restaurant!
Tried Malbec for the first time with a friend who is from Argentina. We had a variety of excellent dishes, great special on a nice Malbec wine, and perhaps the flan is among the best anywhere! Highly recommend!
Food was quite good, but service was not. Still, we would go back for the food and hope the service improves.
Great wine selection for those who like Malbecs! I don't really eat red meat, but my dining companions enjoyed there's. My seafood pasta was delicious as well.
Perfecto para almorzar con colegas!
For a "steak" restaurant, the T-bone I ate was of a relatively low quality. My friend's ribeye was a much better steak, he said. His asparagus was much better than my grilled veggies, too. The French fries were only so-so. The wine was very good though. Next time I visit, I will order other dishes.
Authentic Argentine cuisine. We ate empanadas and sweet breads for starters and skirt steak covered with sautéed vidalia onions for the main. Washed it down with a nice Malbec from Mendoza and finished with flan. The food was amazing and the service exemplary! Looking forward to my next trip to DC.
They did nit have the most important piece of meat in an Argentinuan restaurant if I would have known I would have cancelled but what it was served it was good food . How can you run out of asado de tira? Really?
Great food, friendly and accommodating waitstaff in a sleekly designed space
Excellent service and the food is amazing. If you want to eat a good piece of meat, try the parrillada. It is delicious, abundant for two people and very traditional from Argentina. Give it a try and you will go back!
The appetizers are particularly good
Great place, authentic Argentinian food and wine. Ideal for business lunches. Wonderful lunch specials!
We really had a great time with my mom and sister, and the food was amazing
Slow but pleasant service. Typical Argentine steak house with pleasant outside seating. Steaks truly nothing special. My Rib eye was seriously fatty and the T bone was tough. Sides good but unremarkable. Prices a bit high for being so unremarkable. Decent house Malbec, but not outstanding - pay the extra $2 and get the $14 instead of $12 for the better wine by the glass. Crime brûlée took 25 minutes to arrive and was cold.
Having lived in Argentina the food was authentic and the beef was very flavorful.
Malbec is a neighborhood restaurant on a stretch of 17th Street NW with a few great places. It has outdoor seating that gets packed early on nice nights April through October, so it's great to have a reservation if you plan to dine there on a summer evening. They have a good wine list but only serve two beers (the name gives away their specialty). The menu is mostly meat. My date got the skirt steak and loved it! I got the vegetarian paella, which was really dry long-grain rice and veggies. While I didn't like my meal, I totally understand because the menu is almost entirely red meat. I don't think veggie options are in their wheelhouse. We would definitely return to have a glass of wine on the patio and people watch (it's a great neighborhood for that!). Awesome date spot.
When we sat down our ap plates were covered in black dust and they didn’t offer to replace them, so I just wiped it off with a napkin and moved on.
I ordered the New York strip steak medium rare and when I got it it was well done, no pink whatsoever. So I thought “no big deal, it happens” but by the time the waiter came back to check on us after serving us everyone had already finished their food. I had to wait for them to remake my dinner, after our meal, and when I got the new one it was COMPLETELY rare. I don’t know if y’all need to invest in a meat thermometer or what, but this was a sorry excuse for a “steakhouse.”
And to top it all off they sent they switched me and my friends to-go boxes and sent me home with the wrong food.
Brunch: Excellent brunch menu and value for bottomless drinks and meals. The menu is priced below competing brunches in the area with higher quality food. The only improvement opportunity from our experience is the amount of egg/potato included in the dishes (could have been higher). The Argentinian sausage was excellent. Overall great experience and find.
Appetizers were excellent. Service got worse as meal progressed. It appears server forgot to place our order as we waited over an hour for food. Entrees were either tough or flavorless. Chicken had no taste and was not prepared as described(was sold as all white meat but came mixed). Steak was tough. Owner was visibly upset at our slow service and they offered us free wine and cookies to make up for the wait.
The staff was very courteous and attentive. The food was great and the price was very reasonable. The ambience was classy and refined. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and plan to return.
Fabulous food as always. Great wine and amazing rib eye
It’s the best Argentina restaurant in the Area, the personal it’s very kind, very clean and the prices are good.
The best milanesas ever!!!
Decent food, nice wine selection. Some of the meat we had was great, some tasted more like charcoal. Cozy, neighborhood feel.
Excellent meat, well cooked. Loved the wine selection.
We had the lunch special that include appetizer, entree, dessert and a glass of wine. Everything was delicious and very tasty. Excellent service! Love this place because they serve authentic Argetinian food. As always, we had a great time and we highly recommend this restaurant.
A very reliable & delicious restaurant! We are never disappointed
I loved it! True Argentinian food and wine. Everything was fantastic , from the empanadas to the meat and dessert!
exceeded my expectations, the food was spectacular!
The service and the ambiance were nice, but the food was mediocre at best. For $28, I got beef tenderloin with no sauce of any kind and no skdes. The wine special of the day was really good though.
We went as a family. Initially we were unsure if this was a family oriented place, but they accommodated us nicely. The food was impeccable!! Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and wine. If we lived in DC, this would be a regular place for us to dine.
We were a big group and they did well making sure everyone was taken care of.
Excellent Service, great food and wine!
Second time there, both times with groups, this time 5, last time 8 people. The service was on point both times. The wine was great and the bbq platter was delicious.
The meat quality was not good. Prices were expensive for what we got. It was annoying that the entres did not come with any side.
Superb Lunch Special for 18.95, incl. glass of wine. The real Argentinian thing, not some pseudo. Great steak. Excellent wine menu.
