Great meats. We loved the sausages, lamb and beef! Great service as well. We’ll be back!
Quiet, intimate setting that isn't packed on a Saturday evening. More inexpensive than most for the ambience and quality of food. It's a place for a solid, quality meal, which is the type of place I prefer, however it is not a high end steak house that'll set you back a day's wages. They have a robust specials section on the menu that I highly recommend you take a look at. Browse the Argentine meats as that is what they tout.
Excellent service and food was great,
I really recommend...
Just having some delicious meats with friends. Great space and fantastic service.
What a wonderful find! This Argentine Steakhouse imports its beef straight from Argentina. My husband and I drove over an hour to come here and celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. The ambiance is lovely. They sat us at a small quaint table by the window. We ordered chorizo and empanadas as appetizers and I had the Bife de Lomo Kabobs served with Basmati Rice and my husband had the Milaneda served with mashed potatoes. The food was excellent! The owner even brought us a complimentary glass of champagne to help us celebrate! It's a wonderful restaurant and look forward to coming here to celebrate again!
Excelente todo. Fuimos a cenar comida argentina. Delicioso.
Warm and friendly service with the authentic taste of Argentinia. Didn't want the meal to end!
As an Argentinian, I can say the food was far from having Argentinian standards. The chorizos were not argentinian chorizos. The meat was cold, and not seasoned at all, completely bland. I was looking forward to the empanadas. The empanadas might be the worst of the menu, insulting I would say. Hard, almost not filled, very bad. I am sorry to say there was nothing in the food that was good. Very dissapointing
We are regulars and always look forward to a night out at Malbec.
Nice outdoor seating but several menu items such as empanadas and picanha were out.
We ordered parillada only to discover that the sweetbread was replaced by more meat however we were only made aware of this after looking for it on the platter
I loved my meal. The restaurant was eerily quiet and there were very few guests on a Friday night. I found the food to be exceptional. Service was a bit slow. I look forward to a return visit! Get the short ribs!
Great place the food and service was excellent!
Steak was a little over cooked. For such a pricey menu I would expect more.
Great service. Great food
My husband and I went to Malbec looking for a local restaurant that would live up to our memories of Argentinian steakhouses. The tenderloins were very good (a tad over our requested medium rare), and they even served them with the chimichurri sauce. The prices were reasonable and the wine selection was fantastic, if you like Argentinian reds (which we do). The chocolate cake with ice cream was moist and delicious - and we would go back just for that. Biggest drawback is the lack of parking in the area, but there are plenty of garages within a short walk at Dupont Circle. I highly recommend Malbec if you are looking for a good steak at a reasonable price.
Luis was a superb waiter. He was patient, helpful, and exceedingly accommodating. I would return just to have him as a waiter. First rate, top notch.
The food was good, but something was a bit off. I've tasted similar food, that I'd actually cooked myself, when I'd cooked the chicken or beef too quickly, maybe hadn't let it temper to room temperature. I think the restaurant deserves a second chance, as it's local, and Luis is absolutely first rate.
Dinner at Malbec was terrific. We had fantastic service, the steaks were perfectly cooked, and the wine was divine. Malbec offers many options for non meat eaters; the shrimp ceviche starter was delicious!
Very delicious food. Very nice staff. It's an authentic Argentinian cuisine experience and I have been to Buenos Aires.
Amazing serving staff and food. We ate outside, on a beautiful day and it was a wonderful experience. ⭐
Waited an hour and a half for two steaks. The manager seemed annoyed when we asked that at least one of the meals be comped; we ended up with a 25% discount that was not satisfactory.
Admittedly, our expectations were high, as our first experience with Argentinian steakhouses was in Cancun, Mex; where we dined at Cambalache, as well as at Puerto Madero—two high-end, superb Argentinian steakhouses. Literally everything was “5-star”.
So, at first chance, we searched for an Argentinian steakhouse in the DMV. Malbec showed up in our search. It had more than 4 stars in its reviews, so we made reservations with confidence.
Upon arrival, we noticed that the place was cozy and small. Not a bad thing at all. Their use of space and accommodation was commendable. Their service was attentive, and our waiter specifically was very sincere and helpful. He took time to explain things to us, clean up messes we made, proactively make suggestions, etc.
Now, the issue arises with the food.
It was just “okay”.
It all presented well, but lacked seasoning.
I ordered the Argentinian Picaña steak...medium well.
It was cooked VERY nicely...but lacked taste, almost as if they forgot to add salt. It actually needed steak sauce (which I didn’t ask for, since that’s blasphemy and could be offensive to the chef).
My mother’s brisket was much too “chewy”. I tasted a piece and was chewing a single piece for like 3 good minutes before I felt confident to swallow.
The empanadas were alright, but nothing special.
The sauces they provided LOOKED nice, but again, very little taste or “character”. They were just oily with a subtle essence of whatever herbs and spices they added. These were also the only 2 sauces they offered.
The complementary bread was clearly an afterthought. Again, they LOOKED good, but were dry and chewy. ...nothing you’d keep asking the waiter to keep bringing.
Now, compared to those two different Argentinian steakhouses that we’d been to prior, this place is definitely not a place you’d refer anyone to for Argentinian food. Their service was up to par, but their food was just not worth the ~$30-40 per entree we paid.
Won’t be back for sure.
Excellent steaks and friendly service. We will definitely go back.
Excellent...deserves to be busier than it was.
Would highly recommend
Service and Ambience were great. There was a nice vibe there with people from other tables commenting on the results of a Copa America game. (Argentina lost to Colombia....Arghhhh). The food needs an extra touch of an Argentinean Parrillero (Barbecue master). The Malbec was superior.
Quality of food way overpriced!
Another excellent lunch! Perfect combination: great meat from Argentina with a Malbec wine! Consistently awesome service.
A bit pricier than what it should be
Food great, service good, but for some reason they wouldn’t turn down the aircon - even on one of the hottest and humid days in DC so far. So it was like sitting in a. Steam Oven. Also please change the battery in your smoke alarm, it kept chirping every 2 minutes all night. These are very minor things, so sort them out please. Food is great, service is good, but my evening out was let down by these annoying, silly issues which should be easy to fix.
The good: excellent wine list, service, and desserts. The bad: they seem to grill all the meat without any salt whatsoever. You end up with bland lamb chops, bland ribeye, bland short ribs. The sausages were very good. If they bothered seasoning the meat before grilling it would take it to another level. Overall, good meal and worth checking out. Not unreasonably priced.
The ambience is really good because it is located in a very quiet area and the place is really nice and chill. It is always not too crowded and which is good. I’m giving them a 3 star overall rating because they serve meat cuts that are not Argentinian and of course it’s not that good...they have some that are really Argentinian but you have to select that from the menu. I don’t understand why they do it this way. It should all be good meat. We ordered the parrillada and it was not Argentinian near so of course we were disappointed. It was still good but not excellent.
Excelente, como siempre!
Nice selection of Argentine steaks. Excellent and tasty beef; good, friendly service.
Awesome meal and great wine.
ALWAYS consistently good service and food!! Stick to what’s authentic: steak, lamb etc.
Special cuts were fatty and not good to eat. Wine wasn’t bad. Desert was great.
Really enjoyed authentic Argentine cosine! Steaks were great as was the rest of the meal.
I went with my wife for a taste of traditional argentine cuisine (nothing fancy) and Malbec did not disappoint. Worm service by all the staff and the manager, paired with a home-cooked-like meal was everything we were looking for.
Amazing service and food. The wine was incredible. We loved it and coming back.
Very good food and the owner went out of his way to ensure we were enjoying the meal. Much appreciated and would definitely go again!
