Malbec - Toluca Lake Ratings and Reviews
First time here. I loved the food and the waitstaff. The only thing that didn't work for me was the sound. The acoustics are such that the conversation from the other diners is loud-ish. This would still be ok with me but the music selection was a really annoying mariachi type music on a tinny sounding music system. This is an Argentine restaurant! Play tangos! Having said that I'd still return because the food was so delicious (I had the skirt steak over a salad). Maybe I'll order take-out and enjoy it at home while listening to Gardel...
Tried all-vegetarian dish for the first time. Much more decadent and rich and delicious than I expected. Very pleased. Very good desserts to top off the evening. Waiter was efficient and attentive. Met a friend from out-of-town for dinner and restaurant was quiet enough to have nice conversation and catch up. Overall, would be happy to dine here again.
We have been going to Malbec for over 5 years, always on my Husband's birthday because it is his favorite restaurant. We always have amazing service but this time was a true disappointment. Our waitress took our order, opened our wine and disappeared. There was a large party and she was waiting on them but completely neglected us. Our busser took better care of us and came to check and see how things were, our waitress did not. I had also made a note that it was his birthday and they used to bring a dessert, this time nothing. The food was amazing as usual but the service almost ruined our evening. Sorely disappointed, we might have to find a new tradition.
Excellent restaurant worth the visit! The Dine in LA dinner is a steal as this place has a relatively pricey menu but everything is good and the wine list is inviting - try the rose! It is not our first time as this little gem got us coming back every time...
Took a little while to be acknowledged by the server... But once we got service it was very good. It's a tiny place so the noise level is high due to the proximity to other guests and their own filters. The food, however, is AMAZING, and makes any of this worth it.
I have been going here for several years now and know the staff very well.
Everyone is very friendly and warm. The ambiance is very welcoming and
has just the right amount of sophistication without being cold. My wife and
I also like to sit and eat at the bar which seems to be a popular spot for many
other patrons as well. The food is great and the wine fabulous. Staff will often
offer tastings before you order the wine. They have an outdoor seating area
enclosed by a low 'wall' for privacy and this is sometimes further enclosed by a
clear fold down weather guard. Heaters also I believe. They have a spacious
back area also. All in all I love this place!
The service was OK. We sent two items back to the kitchen, the hanger steak which the waitress ranted and rave and about and the roasted potatoes. The potatoes were awful and dry, with no flavor. And the steak we ordered medium rare came out very, very rare and wayyy under cooked. Even after throwing it back on the grill, the steak was fatty with no flavor. This restaurant lacks seasoning and uses way too much or oil in their dishes. Other than the table a very loud men behind us, the ambience was nice and quaint. Needless to say though, we probably won't be coming back anytime soon.
