Malbec - Toluca Lake Ratings and Reviews
It was my s cond time here as I don’t live in this area to come more often. Service is great, lovely smiley waitress who makes you feel welcome and special!
Food was really good too, I had chimichuri steak and Argentinian wine.
The ambiance is humble and quiet. I enjoyed my dinner and will go back again
Its is EXACTLY what it says:"Argentina is world famous for its cuisine. From homemade salads, pastas and fish to an abundant selection of our signature grilled meats, Malbec Argentinean Cuisine brings you the best authentic cuisine prepared on our genuine Argentinean grill."
Lunched with friends at Malbec in Toluca Lake and, as always, the food and service were excellent! Started with a spinach and cheese empanada as an appetizer which was delicious. The crust was much better and tastier than that of traditional empanadas. We all ordered the chimichurri steak and found the meat as tender as a quality filet mignon. Ordered different desserts, but all of us had the same “ahs” of pure enjoyment. Highly recommend this restaurant. You won’t be disappointed.
This was my second time here both were consistent I had steaks both times and were cooked to MR just as I like it, roasted root veggies and a salad all equally as good. Service was exceptional the first visit but that was midweek and other a busy Saturday night, still good but I needed to ask for things. It was fine —- catching up with an old friend so glad we weren’t rushed. I’ve yet to try other stuff but I will be back to do so. I like that it’s not too noisy where you can’t converse.
Arugula salad with pears and beets had excellent presentation and taste. Grilled N Y steak very tender and cooked perfectly medium rare. Duck juicy and tender, Swiss chard flavorful and polenta great texture and taste. Dessert special of ricotta cheese cake with raisins perfect end to the meal. We have already booked a dinner next month with the whole family!
It was very busy when we arrived and they seemed to be understaffed. When we walked in, we were just pointed to a table, no check in. We went for my wife's birthday but I am guessing since we weren't checked in, they were not informed of her birthday so it never came up. We also sat under the A/C unit so it was pretty cold until we moved. That being said, the food was fantastic. And, our server did a great job under the circumstances.
I have been there a couple of times with friends. The lamb is incredible, the ravioli is excellent and many of the dishes are outstanding. However, the desserts leave a bit to be desired. Is it that the meal was so incredible that the desserts pale in comparison, maybe. But the creme brulle is basic, the crepes are ok and the bread pudding, served cold, was a little dry. But do not let the desserts hold you back, because everything else was wonderful.
We really enjoy Malbec restaurant. They also have one in Pasadena, but for some reason we prefer the one in Toluca Lake. Cannot really say why, as we've only been to the Pasadena restaurant once, but this was our 5th time in Toluca Lake. Low lighting and candle lit Malbecs has a romantic and upscale feel. Every meal I've had has been delicious, a couple faves are the fish of the night or the Skirt Steak with Chimichurri sauce. They have a great selection of Malbec wines and will bring a few tastes to see which one you prefer. Our server was friendly, helpful with suggestions and let us dine with our friends, not rushing us out. It can get a bit loud between the "background" music and the talking but over all we really enjoy ourselves here.
Malbec was wonderful as always. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive, the food was delicious and we were served quickly and the ambience was lovely without being pretentious or overly formal. We will definitely be making another trip to Malbec in the near future.
I dined here recently with my new girlfriend. We both enjoyed our entrees and the atmosphere of the restaurant. The restaurant was cozy, quiet, and comfortable on a Sunday night. We had the Empanadas (1 Beef, 1 Spinach & Cheese), she had the ensalada de la casa (salad), I had the entrana al chimichurri (10 oz skirt steak with vegetables). The meat was cooked to order (well done) and tasted great! We each enjoyed a glass of the namesake (Malbec) wine with our meals. We shared dessert at the end of our meal, panueques de dulce de leche (crepes with bananas, berries, and scoop of vanilla ice cream). We both liked the taste as well as the presentation of the dishes. The server was very friendly and attentive during the evening. We were both glad we made this restaurant our choice to dine at for our second date! There is plenty of street parking available (at least when we visited on Sunday evening).
First time here. I loved the food and the waitstaff. The only thing that didn't work for me was the sound. The acoustics are such that the conversation from the other diners is loud-ish. This would still be ok with me but the music selection was a really annoying mariachi type music on a tinny sounding music system. This is an Argentine restaurant! Play tangos! Having said that I'd still return because the food was so delicious (I had the skirt steak over a salad). Maybe I'll order take-out and enjoy it at home while listening to Gardel...
Tried all-vegetarian dish for the first time. Much more decadent and rich and delicious than I expected. Very pleased. Very good desserts to top off the evening. Waiter was efficient and attentive. Met a friend from out-of-town for dinner and restaurant was quiet enough to have nice conversation and catch up. Overall, would be happy to dine here again.
